Skyrim GOTY - what game can give Skyrim a run for its money?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:41 pm

Uncharted 3, Deus Ex, Portal 2, Dark Souls, The Witcher and Arkham City are all good enough to win GOTY. I don't think Skyrim has much chance.

Sacralidge! How dare you!?
But ya, Arkham City is great but I think Skyrim will beat them all out.

They could all win GOTY... It's not one award loads of places give GOTY.

This.

Why does game of the year matter so much? The only advantage I see in it is the fact that this time next year they might release a GOTY edition with the DLC.

And this.

(And even without a "GotY" editions, there's still Ultimate and Complete editions of games.)

Skyrim already lost goty to Uncharted 3, its been getting perfect 10's from every review site, IGN even said it was the perfect game and a masterpiece. Theres no way Skyrim can beat that, nobody will even give it a 10 because of the bugs at launch.

Uncharted 3 of course, IGN gave it 10/10 and only 2 more games deserved this rating from them, MGS 4 and GTA 4.
Skyrim will be the best RPG of the year, not not the best game.
Oh and dont start on me this "some game reviewers will give it GOTY", some will indeed, but for me the one and only criteria for goty is metacritic score ( critics review of course).

I've never played Uncharted Series or those batman games, but in my opinion those are the only two that look like they can stand up for GOTY against Skyrim
Uncharted 3, Batman Arkham City and Skyrim. One of these three will get it, that's for sure.
Take your pick XD
For me, IT WILL BE SKYRIM! :obliviongate:

There are some really crazy people out there, if those actually think MW3 would have any chance against BF3.

Also Minecraft is missing in the voting.

I'm going for Uncharted 3. Batman Arkham Asylum had no appeal for me, I didn't really know what was the appeal of it. Though I haven't played Arkham City.

Yeah well ... so IGN -one of the most well known gaming magazines- doesn't know what a game is all about. Sad sad ...

Uncharted 3 is a great interactive movie and a masterpiece, but it's an absolute joke as a game.
Calling it "the perfect game" is ridiculous.

Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if Uncharted 3 does get more GotY awards than both Skyrim and Arkham City despite the massive hate I have for the series.

I'd say Portal 2, to be honest... or something, but none of which are listed here.

NOTE: Skyrim will be GOTY, this vote is for second place!!

I don't see why you're so confident. More great games have come out this year than anytime in recent memory, and you haven't even played Skyrim yet. Why do you just automatically expect it to be perfect?

Personally, I expect Skyrim to be great, but I still think it's going to be close between it, Batman, Uncharted and Deus Ex.

edit: I voted Uncharted because of the rave reviews it's getting, but I think being a PS3 exclusive might hold it back.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_the_Year I daresay most of the games on the list WILL win a GOTY. There's little in the industry to give one GOTY significant weight over some of its peers, other than magazine or website readership for the namesake of a given award.

It will probably be MW3 due to the sheer amount of sales it will have.

1. I haven't played Skyrim, so I have no idea how good it will be.
2. What's GOTY? Aren't there a zillion different ones (every publication picks their own)?

I don't understand the usage of the term "GOTY" as though it's some kind of real award.

Batman and Uncharted 3 are in my list. Never saw the appeal of TES. And why are you so confident that Skyrim will win for sure? Just because a game looks good doesn't mean it's going to be good. What I predict that Skyrim won't live up to the massive hype of its fans. It basically looks like Oblivion with Dragons. That's it.

I assumed he was trying to guess which game would receive the most GOTY awards.

Hmm... My picks for possible contenders for the game of the year (in terms of role playing games) would be either Dark Souls or The Witcher 2. Although, Dark Souls is definitely a very niche game type that may not appeal to a very large crowd.

I think I mean prevalent across publishers.

Batman: AC looks like a good game to place second or tie with Skyrim.
