Skyrim GOTY - what game can give Skyrim a run for its money?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:17 am

There seems to be some good game releases this year. I think Skyrim will take GOTY, but by a very close vote. Almost requiring an instant review of the game critic reviews to tally the numbers.

But what do you think will be the game that comes in second place. The one that gives Skyrim a run for its money? The one that Bethesda may be bitting their nails over...

NOTE: Skyrim will be GOTY, this vote is for second place!!

Spoiler shows what I think may come in second, but may not be an upset otherwise...
Spoiler

I think second place will go to Arkham City. Reviewers are falling out of their chairs for it and it has uncompromisng DX11 / physics effects.

My real answer would be Fallout IV or the Elder Scrolls VI, but that would be unrealistic. Uncharted 3 comes the closest in my mind. Mud Crab Apocalypse: The Resurrection would probably come out on top of the dog pile, though. You know, if it was ever developed.

None this year, the only game that can give Skyrim a run for it's money within the next year is Kingdom's Of Amalur Reckoning and that game is basically the closest thing you will get to an Elder Scrolls game without it being an Elder Scrolls game. Batman, Uncharted, Assassin's creed, whatever title I missed that comes out this year, they all have one thing in common. They will all end at some point unlike Skyrim which doesn't and has high replay value, not to mention the amount of options that you get for customization.

Edited- To answer the OP's question 2nd place will go to either Batman or Witcher 2.

Nothing can come close to Skyrim

I am a huge Assassins Creed fan and I will be swapping between Skyrim and Revelations

Uncharted 3 will wait until Christmas

To be honest none of this years games will, the only one in my kind would be mass effect 3.

Meh, I'd rather wait to compare the games to Skyrim when it finally comes out. It's impossible to say how good a game will be before you play it yourself. This goes for Skyrim as well. I know everyone expects it to be DA BOMB based on past history, but let's be realistic here. It seems sort of foolhardy to say it's the best game of the year when it hasn't even hit store shelves.

I think this will be the toughest year for Bethesda to claim the game of the year award as there are so many great titles coming out.

I read rumors that these games will come out next year. Which may be good so I am not overwhelmed by all the good choices:)

I put witcher 2.. but I really don't know since I haven't played some of those games yet.. and won't be playing a few at all. You have to think that the games that rely heavily on online play like the war games just won't sell as many copies for the simple fact of xbox's pay to play online option. It's the cheaper console yet they expect people to pay an outrageous amount of moola for something that others get to use for free.

There needs to be an un-occupy gold protest or something.

Uncharted 3, Deus Ex, Portal 2, Dark Souls, The Witcher and Arkham City are all good enough to win GOTY. I don't think Skyrim has much chance.

I personally don't think any of the other games are personal contenders as they're quite bland, have charm but lack replayability, or are flat out rehash titles/buggy messes. However, considering journalism of video games... Uncharted 3, Gears of War 3, or Modern Warfare 3 are the most likely as they have huge fanbases, and catering to them gets journalists money.

This poll is biased by its very nature of being posted here in the Skyrim forums. So honestly I don't see the point. You already claim Skyrim will be GOTY. Don't get me wrong I am expecting that as well. But you are just making an http://youtu.be/TywmpMQYojs

That being said, for as much as I just want to blurt out SKYRIM, there has been some seriously quality games out this year, particularly since September on. Skyrim, regardless of the quality is going to have some serious competition and I don't see this years result as a guaranteed win no matter what.

Maybe if you can offer a more serious set of criteria to base a vote on I would consider it, till then just feels like yet another spam post.

Uncharted 3, Portal 2, and Arkham City will get a large majority of GOTY awards depending on Skyrims reception.

Why does everyone think the FPS have a chance ?

There's way to many of them now so they won't have a chance against skyrim

I agree, this is the most realistic answer to op's question.

Arkham City. The rest of the options don't even come close to Arkham City and Skyrim.

Quite frankly, and I will put a lot of money on it, it's only Uncharted 3 that can give Skyrim a run for its money. I really am certain of this.

I was sceptical about Uncharted 2 before I played it, but it really is a very polished game, with outstanding voice acting as well, probably the best I have seen in any video game. motion capture and movement is amazing too. very immersive.

I still prefer Elder Scrolls to anything else, but am just saying that for certain gamers, this is a very very big release.

I agree Skyrim should win, however I find it unlikely it will with so many strong releases this year. As I've said before, I'll be surprised if Uncharted doesn't get away with most GOTY awards.

They could all win GOTY... It's not one award loads of places give GOTY.

Skyrim will win a few most likely, not sure if it will win the most though.

Why does game of the year matter so much? The only advantage I see in it is the fact that this time next year they might release a GOTY edition with the DLC.
