Skyrim is Great

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 7:42 am

I know I been making lots of topics on here, but I also noticed some negativity on the boards and feel I should post what I think.

-----

I've played Morrowind, and I've played Oblivion, and I'll not lay a finger on them ever again. They were the two worst games that I'VE ever played. It just had awful and cheap gameplay, and just seemed very poorly made.

But I saw videos on Skyrim, and then I bought the game, and I loved it. It is a huge improvement over TES III and IV, in my opinion at least.

I've been playing the game for three days, and each day I feel like I am playing something different. I began as a Male Nord Warrior, who exceled in Archery, Sword-and-Shield combat, and Light Armor. One day I was a Stormcloak Soldier fighting in a Civil War; the next day I was equipped with Dragonscale Armor trying to find a way to defeat Alduin; the next day I was playing as a Thief trying to move up in the ranks of the Thieve's Guild, and meddling in the Dark Brotherhood.

I really couldn't wait to see what else I could have done. So I started me a whole new character. This time I chose a Female Imperial Warrior, who dual-wielded swords and wore light armor. I am on the side of the Imperial Legion now, and I am doing the Civil War questline again, but this time on the side of the Imperials. And since I know how everything works now, I understand why level-grinding is a bad idea and I am making a fortune very fast (which may or may not be a good thing).

I reckon one day I'll be a Dunmer Assassin, but that can wait.

I literally don't know why everyone keeps on ranting about the game. Maybe I just don't know how much has changed, considering I barely played MW and OB. But still, the game is a great game and feels like a great improvement.

I agree with everything except the first part. I liked Oblivion and loved Morrowind.

Glad you enjoy it! I'd brace for the rabid hordes of 'MORROWIND IS THE BEST EVERYTHING ELSE IS DREADFUL' and 'SKYRIM IS HORRIBLE' folk ;)

I personally agree - Skyrim is a great game. I do enjoy playing Oblivion, but Skyrim feels like home to me. The quests, the people, the cities, the landscape ... Its purely amazing. There are a few things that annoy me, but in the scheme of things they're insignificant. Here's to many more years in the land of Skyrim!

Yeah that's definitely the best part about TES games, you can be whoever you want and do whatever you want, so there's a ton of possiblities.

I don't know why you hated Morrowind and Oblivion so much though, I loved both of them!

I'd just ignore the people who will disagree with negative responses about your opinions on MW and Oblivion. In my opinion, I would love to own a copy of MW and Oblivion but I just don't have the money.
I also agree with the topic.

I am quite aware of that, as I have read several topics and articles about it.

But like I said, maybe I just haven't played Morrowind or Oblivion enough to notice the differences that Skyrim has.

I like how in Skyrim I can swing my sword and actually hit something without hitting air about 50 times like in MW and OB. I like how I can raise my Shield to block as compared to MW and OB where I had no control over it. And not to mention, Skyrim is much more accesbile than MW and OB were. Skyrim was also easy to get into; a Dragon attacks, and then you're put into a world where you instantly know what's going on and can participate in a Civil War (my favorite part). In MW I remember it was "Oh, you're a prisoner on a boat and you need to go to Caius Cosades, where you'll go on Quests to speak with people"; and OB I remember was like "Let's go through this secret door and fight some rats!!" or something; I just could not get into it, I didn;t know what I was doing or why and it felt dull and boring to me. Skyrim on the other hand... lots of action and I can understand what's going on.

I prefer Morrowind over Skyrim, which I prefer over Oblivion. Still, I can understand if you have a different order of preference than that. However, to say that Morrowind and Oblivion are two of the worst games you've ever played shows that clearly you're missing something. I just don't think it's possible to, with an informed opinion, simply LOVE Skyrim but outright HATE both Morrowind and Oblivion with vitriol.

I'm not trying to contribute to a flame war, but those two things you mentioned only happened in Morrowind, not Oblivion.

Well then I'm in the 10%. Put well over 1000 hours into mw and oblivion and imo skyrim is better than both. I still play mw and oblivion a lot and still love them.

I'd say 90% is very inaccurate.

Each game in the series has its strengths and weaknesses. It's a waste of time, in my opinion, to argue which is better.

If the worst games you've played include Morrowind, then I wish I could be as fortunate as you.

As far as my take on the whole thing, as TES games: Morrowind > Skyrim > - ∞ > Oblivion

If looked at as just games, then: Skyrim > Morrowind > Oblivion > - ∞

Never really played Morrowind myself. Got so lost with the freedom after getting off the prisoner ship that I never got out of that first town. Oblivion was my first free-reign RPG so it has a special place in my heart. :P

I love Skyrim, I just find myself into other games at the moment. You can only play so much medieval before you need a bit of the Normandy baby!

90 doesnt sound right.. and first off we're just the vocal community, cant count us as the voice of TES fans, we're just the ones who care/mad enough to actually get on the forums...
and i like OB and skyrim equally, depending on the day i eitehr like MW more or less than the two, and by that i mean whether or not it crashed on my computer... v.v

Most likely just FPS

Actually, no.

I play Red Dead Redemption, which I consider the Greatest Game I have ever played. I am also a fan of the Assassin's Creed games, and I have played and beaten every one of their games so far. I also played the Gears of War series (which are NOT FPS games). I am a slight fan of the UFC games, but not entirely. I've had an experience with the awful series that is called 'Fable'.

I just could not get into Morrowind and Oblivion, I just could not. They just felt... awful to me. But that's my opinion anyway. I never said they were the worst games ever made, just the worst games I ever played. Maybe if I could get into them, I could appreciate them a bit more, but I didn't get past Vivec in Morrowind and I didn't get past the rats in the stone tunnels on Oblivion.

As FPS games, I have played Call of Duty Games in the past and I must say - they are extremely awful. In truth, I would rather play any TES game before another CoD game. CoD is just awful. I DO NOT play FPS, and I don't even play in First-Person on Skyrim. I prefer third-person, especially if customization is an option like in Skyrim.

It is a great game, but that in no way shape or form implies that it's the best Elder Scrolls game.

Just a question in all sincerity. How old are you now, and how old where you when you played morrowind?
