Skyrim has potential..but...

I love Skyrim, but I definitely agree with the lack of consequences.
Also, I play on PS3 and have encountered hardly ANY bugs, whereas I've heard of many other players (on all platforms) experiencing game-breaking bugs. Luck of the draw, I guess!

What kind of "consequences" are you looking for?

I've had hired thugs sent after me because I "borrowed" some stuff from a Jarl's residence and necromancers after me because I terminated someone during a daedric quest.

So there are some "consequences" in the game.

If you get to the level of NPC reaction to you based on what you have or haven't done, e.g., stealing something from a merchant gets you banned from their store ... and maybe others in the same town ... it might cramp some play styles.

Anyway, I'm still a bit confused as to what people are looking for re: "consequences".

Bethesda usually does a good job with their add-ons. On a whole, I find them to be much more interesting and unique than their vanilla original games. When Bethesda's writing get a chance to mix things up, they can do some cool things.

Tribunal/Bloodmoon > Morrowind
Shivering Isles/KotN > Oblivion
Point Lookout/The Pitt > Fallout 3

Sure, there have been some duds. Fallout 3's Operation:Anchorage, Broken Steel, and Mothership Zeta are best left forgotten, and all of the other Oblivion DLC's were mere diversions.

There are some consequences, yes, but not enough for me and some other users. For example, I won the war for the Stormcloaks, yet people are still telling me about how they hope the war ends soon. Not even the guards acknowledge the end of the war. No one seems to care that I've saved the world countless times. They need to improve, in my view.

It's a glorified puppet show with a plot line ripped from the back of a cereal box.

It's a TES game... NPCs always were kind of shallow and the main stories never had very good plot lines. If you want NPCs with a rounder background and a great plot, go play Mass Effect.

Those are two very different things. For the Nords, it's like meeting the dean of the local Clown College. Sure he's good at what he does, but what he does is considered by all those who don't practice it to be a colossal waste of time.

This is a very nice anology. ^^

This is very true. I mean, I am harbinger of the Companions and the guards still use all the lines about being a companion? Shouldn't be that hard for Beth to write a script to delete the first lines once certain quests are done, I mean they already got prerequisite quests for some of the comments... Although I've gotta say, I don't know if word gets around that fast in Skyrim. Maybe some people haven't heard about it?

I'm gonna get a ton of hate for this, and I am by no means a "really devoted fan" but lets try and be a little realistic here. Are we fully comprehending the size of the game and the amount of content in play here? Sure, they could have cut down on content and made your insignificant decisions in the game have effects on everyone around you, but would that entertain you as much as the hours and hours of side quests? Think about how much time already went into the game and how much more it would have taken to make each thing you do have a significant impact on the world around you. You can take this as me saying that they released an unfinished game, but what i am really saying is that we need to be content with what we got. To say that this is a good base for a game is like saying that the Eifel Tower is a good base for a landmark. At what point are we going to stop calling this unfinished and take it for what it is, keeping in mind the size and content of the game? To be frank, yeah, the characters are shallow, and yeah, people don't react to every little thing you do, but so what? To me, that seems pretty insignificant in comparison to what WAS accomplished. Just because there is room for improvement doesn't mean that the game was released before it was done.

So your ok with them not improving themselves, also I would never play mass effect.

I do like Skyrim a lot but it just dosent have the same feel to me as Oblivion had. I played Oblivion for over 800 hours and so far in Skyrim I am at about 72hrs and I am lucky to have made it this far. My last Oblivion save had 320hrs on it, I will be shocked if I get half as many on a Skyrim save.
