Skyrim has potential..but...

What you do has "zero" effect on the world around you...it's very shallow. And the bugs really hamper it, especially on ps3 which I own (not for long) i just think if a little more effort was out into tis game it could place been amazing

Yep, pretty much. No one reacts to what you do or who you are, and the dialogue is impossibly shallow. Still a great game, but it could have been so much better.

People come here talking about "all the bugs" and most of us are perplexed as to what they mean. Could you be specific as to what you're talking about?

It's pretty obvious. Anything from walking around as the Archmage, in your Archmage robes, and other magi telling you you should maybe make the trip to the College to sign up, or guards making condescending comments.

Little seemingly insignificant things make a big difference in an RPG.

I don't think you want me to list every single bug I've had...in general though I'm talking about the sometimes unplayable framerate that I get, 1.4 made it even worse which I didn't think was possible

Guards making condescending comments makes sense though. They're Nords, and they don't like magic.

It doesn't make sense for them to badmouth the Archmage.

I don't like politicians, yet I won't insult the prime minister when I meet him.

Those are two very different things. For the Nords, it's like meeting the dean of the local Clown College. Sure he's good at what he does, but what he does is considered by all those who don't practice it to be a colossal waste of time.

Not saying it does ... just that everything you've said in this thread and your "should Skyrim have had more time" thread of yesterday has been done to death numerous times in previous threads ... so no need for either of yours.

I tend to describe Skyrim as a good base. It's a beautiful world, with beautiful locations, good looking armor, etc. But the stories told are largely lackluster. So it makes for a great base for the modding community. Once they are done with it, the game will truly shine.

yeah i agree OP. its kinda sad. A lot of questlines just leave you with an empty feeling. Just a feeling of, "did i miss something?" but no you didn't, that was just the quest..

At the moment ME3 console players are running into problems with gamertag and multiplayer issues, lockups, freezes.i think it's going to be endemic from now on until the console makers get their act together and put out a better console so the game devs can push the games they want to push out there.

Skyrims a beautiful game and when it was released i thought "Hang on,why is it so small?" i was expecting a 13-16 gig game

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

It's a glorified puppet show with a plot line ripped from the back of a cereal box.

OP, these kinds of posts are getting pretty old... Thats why all the negative comments. But it doesn't mean you are wrong. Lets just hope beth comes out with some good dlc and in ES VI focus on story more. My dream is to see bioware type dialogue and consequences in an open world beth RPG. I can dream...

It's OP's opinion so there's no right or wrong about it.

But if you're going to offer an "opinion" that the game is "shallow", at least give some examples of why you think this.

Problem is that all the "examples" OP is likely to have have already been offered in numerous previous threads ... some of which I've agreed with.

So all this thread offers is an opportunity for folks like Mr. "Seth Green trying to look cool" avatar guy to post inane one liners ... and hope someone clicks through to their link ... and the "I take myself seriously even if no one else in the real world does" arbiters of all that is good and right about RPGs to do about the same.

Yeah, it's old.

I love Skyrim, but I definitely agree with the lack of consequences.
Also, I play on PS3 and have encountered hardly ANY bugs, whereas I've heard of many other players (on all platforms) experiencing game-breaking bugs. Luck of the draw, I guess!

Bethesda usually does a good job with their add-ons. On a whole, I find them to be much more interesting and unique than their vanilla counterparts. When Bethesda's writing get a chance to mix things up, they can do some cool things.

Tribunal/Bloodmoon > Morrowind
Shivering Isles/KotN > Oblivion
Point Lookout/The Pitt > Fallout 3

Sure, there have been some duds. Fallout 3's Operation:Anchorage, Broken Steel, and Mothership Zeta are best left forgotten, and all of the other Oblivion DLC's were mere diversions.
