Skyrim How2MakeItMoreRPG

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:41 am

I'd like the choice at the start of the game on whether or not you play as dovahkin, by that i mean you aren't the hero, your a citizen of skyrim. You start simple and can choose your race, details same as normal. But you don't get to be dragonborn, you instead journey around doing what not, become a merchant, blacksmith, mercenary or maybe even Jarl. That way you can enjoy Skyrim without the annoying repeat of the main quest.

Say what your thoughts are on my suggestion.

RPG does not equal sandbox

No, but the MQ was tied to your neck, and still the emperor saw you as an uberbro who saw in his dreams

RPG does not equal sandbox
QFT

Spoiler
You think that by removing the MQ anything would change? Sorry but HOW would that make a differance? If anything this game lacks is some kinds of boundires. To become someone important You'll have to do the dirty work first and advance in the ranks. Not like now when after few short quests You become a leader of a faction. Like an Archmage with almost non magic experiance.

- attributes
- journal
- better progression

This is what this game needs to be a better RPG.

I was talking to the OP who suggested, more sandbox/frearoam=better rpg,
No the removal of MQ wouldn't change a thing, but the way how game pushes the player into doing the MQ, could

Or you could just choose to not start the MQ. It is optional.

Well if You remove it, it won't be there to push You to do it :P . I know what You meant I just narrowed it down maybe a bit to much.

Quoted for the sake of obviousness. Though I'm not sure about how not being the chosen one affects how RPG the game is.

Ye but the game shoves you to do it, i tried not doing the MQ once but i realised the game-play couldn't reach its full potential without MQ
that's why I'm suggesting a game mode where there is no need to do the MQ

If you want to advance the civil war, you'll have to start the MQ anyway. Which svcks.

So you think that you need the MQ for the game to have it's full potention, but... you want to make a mode where you don't need to do it?

Well I guess your actions should actually matter. That'd take it a step further on the way.

However, the dovakhiin thing is completely optional. Just like the nerevarine thing was in morrowind.

Don't like the infer uber accurate map? Use the drawn one that came with the game and try and navigate with that!

That's true. But the OP was talking about about being a normal citizen. Being a merchant or a blacksmith wouldn't send you to battle your way through the civil war.

Well I use this mod;
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9557

it gives your game another starting point, which is lovely voor RPing and you can just wander off doing your things and don't mind the MQ.. I've not experienced anything "missing" from my game experience from not doing the MQ

A citizen can sign up for the stormcloaks/legion, so yeah the combat can still be there.

if you're on console you're out of luck, the best you'll get there is horse armor or some useless house dlc

id strongly advise to get rid of your useless console and get a pc, get some options because consoles are far inferior
