Skyrim hunting thread!

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 7:26 pm

One of my favorite things to do in Oblivion was hunt deer. This has followed into skyrim, and now that mounted combat has arrived, I can kill Deer and Elk on a horse...

Ive done it so much I prefer it on a horse, and ive become very good at it.

Does anyone else do this?

My character:

Woodelf, level 81
Maxed archery skill tree
Fur armor, stormcloak officer helm, leather boots, steel arrows, hunting bow.

The only thing that pisses me off is on the 360, you can't eliminate the Arrow draw distance. So those far away shots on the elk I can see on my $400 HDTV don't happen. Ever. Not even with a Daedric bow, which can shoot farther.

But yeah, I'm rambling now...sorry. Does anyone else go hunting? (I wish it was more profitable. I bring soul gems, turn the hides into leather armor and enchant, but still. :c )

Yeah it's a fun past time. My main character loves archery, so it suits him pretty well. :)

I took a hunting trip in Skyrim last night, and I seem to find that just selling the raw materials is quicker than making stuff out of it. The trouble is that it doesn't gain a whole lot of Septims (or whatever they're called now :P ) by just selling the bulk items. :P

But yeah - last night, I was tracking down an elk, and I ran into a small pack of wolves. I started to run from them (my horse died), then I ran into a giant camp. Needless to say, my character got sent a few thousand feet into the air somehow. :P

LOL nice:D
Horse archery on giants is just easy now. I can Kill them on my level 5 now...because I just dodge with the horse.

I might get a PC in two years so I can get ready for the next Elder Scrolls game. Also I know what you mean, I can't hit a huge mamoth no matter what.

I do it sometimes... the hunting from horse back is great.. until a frost troll runs up from behind you punches you're horse and you end falling down a large cliff on a dead horse ...

it does look like fun with crossbows, but i think there best use will be just walking round town with a loaded crossbow just waiting to shoot some guard in the knee whenever he complains about being hit by an arrow in that same spot

I always enjoy collecting leather in the Whiterun plains when I am not doing anything else. Going to need the leather for many things.

What do you use it for? Is it more profitable to turn the hides into leather or leather strips?

I have 357 leather on my account. This was from 1 hunting trip. And I have enough soul gems that they weigh me down about 200 pounds...I got tired of enchanting and selling after I hit 100k gold

I more just keep them in my material barrel for DLC/Updates/for fun. I'm pretty sure the Dragonbone weapons are going to require more than just Dragon Bones.

I'd say so considering the Dragon Bone armor set required more scales than bones

I would hope the weapons don't require too many scales... I just used all but 2 of my scales to make armor..
