Skyrim Needs More Creatures

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:25 am

Am I the only one who is disappointed by the lack of variety in the creatures in the game? I know there are giants, mammoths, ice wraiths, etc. , but with the huge world that is Skyrim I figured there would be more creatures out there to find. I remember when I encountered my first (and last) Spriggan. It was pretty exciting- something I was not expecting. It seems like the only thing I ever see is giants, dragons, and bears. Also, what's up with werewolves? Are there any of them roaming around Skyrim ready to kill?

We had a topic about this just a few days ago. There are actually more creatures in skyrim than oblivion or morrowind. Deal with it.

Well since I have seen some caged usuallly dead but sometimes not it would make sense but as I can morph quite easily I figure the non affiliated ones can as well.

That's nice. It doesn't chnage the fact that in Skyrim there's more no matter how it feels to you

I wish there were more "odd" things hidden around. Things like the Spriggan and Wispmother that are very different from the normal creatures. Also, underwater monsters.

Im sure a mod for PC will fix it just like Oblivion, but yeah, it is lacking in diversity, not numbers, but diversity.

More would be better, but the current number isn't bad.

Except we need female giants. Where do giants come from if they're all males?

More is always better, but diversity for diversity's sake should be avoided. The creatueres need to make some sort of sense in regards to why they are where they are found

I do think that there should be a lot more non hostile animals/creatures but it think the hostile ones are fine.

I thought the mammoths were the female giants. They're awfully protective of them.

More types or just more creatures, counting increased numbers of a specific species? Because I agree that the game seems to have fewer species than previous titles in the series.

I don't mind the current variation but it's true that Skyrim does feel kinda repetitive at times with it's creatures.

I would have loved to have seen female giants, ogres, boars, wild werewolves, werebears, tribal volkihar,
frostlanders (ashlanders.. on ice!), lobsters, bison, grahl, rieklings, wereboars, dreugh, nymphs, centaur,
lamia, harpies, wormmouths, snow guars, spider daedra (as actual spider-men), wraiths, xivilai, vermai etc.

Although such an amount of creatures in Skyrim could only be attainable in a mod and being on a Ps3 doesn't make that possible.
But that makes me wonder on how Bethesda's dealing with Sony/Microsoft to get mods working on the consoles, went. Probably badly.

I see no evidence that there are more, in any of your snippy posts. If you think there are more, tell us why, don't just snap at people.

So I should do like you say or I get in big trouble? Gosh that gives me pause. :bunny:

For your illumination, I only said that once. My other snippy posts are about various other subjects.

Since you seem to feel I am in error, it seems to me that the burden of proof falls on your ample, bossy shoulders.

I agreed more with your 'snippy' remark before you editted it. Some people just turn into knobs whenever even the most minor of criticisms is laid against the game. Sure, there might be more 'types', but that's just because we have several types of bear, wolf or sabre cat. I don't fast-travel so I'm well aquainted with the lack of enemies - I roll my eyes when I hear a wolf howl or the thundering of an incoming bear. Throw in some bandits and a troll ot two and that's 90% of the enemies you'll encounter on the road. I would have killed for more variety, and feel this is an area where Bethesda have really yet to improve on. Changing enemy skins and altering their stats do not make them 'different' in my books.

So that makes there less creatures in Skyrim? Also, if you want to tell me off, have the balls to do it

happy reading Garth

I agree. I never understood this in any of the TES games really. Why not make a huge bestiary like in the FF series? It would add a lot to the game and make the dungeons/world feel more alive.
It would be awesome entering a dungeon and never knowing what you would face in there.

I think the problem is that there are very few "monsters" in the game. Most of the enemies are either animals or bandits.

great concept, but to maintain commonality with each game so that the creatures could be used in following titles would be very limiting

I completely agree. I love the game- absolutely love it. I like the content that's in it, but for the scale of the world I think there should be more. The thing about skeevers, wolves, bears and the like is, you don't have to change your fighting style. When you fight a giant, dragon, or vampire, you have to change up your strategy a little bit. Whether it be the use of sparks to reduce magicka or a bow and arrow to shoot from afar, it makes fighting more interesting.
