Post » Sun May 27, 2012 5:10 am

This is a new thread because i have changed name to Skyrim: Realistic Overhaul.

First part of the mod is released. You can download it here:

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5400

It contains a landscape textures.
There is still a few textures left to change, and to some will be added more details later.

An old thread can be found here with a lot of pics:

Hope you don't mind if we post requests/comments regarding the textures?

For me it had been nice to keep the small white flowers in vanilla grass texture to add some more detail, it looks a bit too simple/boring/plain compared to real life with nothing else growing, at least the flowers would help making it look a little more varied. I just looks a bit strange as if some1 had been there with a lawn mover all over Skyrim's grass.

I really like xclear's version of the grass texture http://static.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/images/329-2-1321454584.jpg - grass looks longer here too so it looks more realistic to me so will probably use this one for grass for now. I'm not a big fan of all his textures but the grass one he got just right IMO. Somehow he managed to get the flowers look like they would stand up a little from the ground when looking from an angle.

I want the grass texture a little tweaked as well, but not in the same way ^^

I'll rewrote what I wrote in the Nexus thread: http://static.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/images/5400-1-1325803636.jpg

I think that it could have some moss on it partly. I mean, this texture in Skyrim is often used over stone-things (don't know what to call them) and moss almost always grows there. Also I think some moss would fit well with Skyrim's nordic setting. There's lots of moss in nothern forests

Concerning above post: I personally don't think this looks very good: http://static.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/images/329-2-1321454584.jpg
Because 1) the green looks too strong, 2) the flowers shine very weirdly and unrealistically

Other than that, I think all textures look amazing.
The detail is almost photorealistic, AND it doesn't look flat. That is hard to achieve. Very well done.

Yea you're right, moss would be a good idea for nordic climate, almost everywhere grows this white moss in forests in Finland for example, well either that or lingon/cowberries. I don't care if it would be moss or some berries or whatever added, just looking for a less plain/more varied looking texture.

That xclear's grass looks horrible!

I want realistic textures in my mod, as much as possible off course. And i want extreme details.
Later i will release 4096 res grass texture, even more detailed. It's gonna be optional.

My grass looks really amazing in the morning or at the evening. The trick is in the normal maps.

Thank you guys!

Btw, if you find some textures that don't blend good, tell me.

I didn't check entire Skyrim. And there could be some small problems with specific alpha channels in some places.

I think this mod is absolutely fantastic. The textures are brilliant. I registered only to tell you that. I know there are other texture packs out there that are more complete at the moment, and may have more community support, but I think yours supersedes them all. Don't stop working, and don't give up. Yours is by far the best and I'm really looking forward to the complete on in a few months (or whenever you finish it).

I'm actually looking forward to your pack so much that I've delayed playing Skyrim until your pack is finalized. I played about 5 hours on release day, but have been waiting for something like this before I fully dive into the game

Is it possible to fix your dirt looking green in the distance? You can see in this screenshot that it's brown close to the camera, but it turns green in the distance:

I don't have that kind of problem. Here is my shot:

Maybe it's because you use lower details, so everything is more green?

Thanks.

We are the same. I've actually played only about 6-7 hours.
I use save-games from my friend to check textures on other locations. He is level 31.

I'm using the "high" preset, not everything is more green (although I am using the bit of tint version of the "No Tint and Desaturation" mod).

Your screenshot also has a greenish tint to it on the dirt in the distance, it's just not nearly as noticable (probably because of the bit of tint mod I'm using).

I'll play around with it and see what I come up with.

Edit:

Okay, the bit of tint mod was indeed making it worse. But it's still there without it.

I made a quick vanilla vs SRO comparison image in that spot:
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/3149/72403326.jpg

Can you see what I mean in this screenshot? The vanilla texture stays the same tone even at the end of the road while the SRO texture gets a bit of a green tone to it the further it gets away. Would slightly changing the brown more to the original help?

I can ignore it, it's just a minor annoyance in an otherwise awesome mod (thanks again, btw!)

Your shot is again more green then mine.

The reason why my texture is a little bit green in the distance is because there is a "cloud/circle" that always moves with your player. Everything that enter that cloud will have a little bit over-saturated color. Thats why some textures will be a little bit different in the distance. Actually i think that's the only texture that look different.

Yes, changing color will solve that. Decreasing green color with "Selective color" tool in Photoshop.

I'm gonna play with this later.

I really like the look of your textures, they seem to be made with a degree of skillfulness in such a thing.

However your mod title is grossly misleading :P "Realistic Texture Overhaul" would better represent it imo

I can make them to look even better, but it takes more time.

And maybe there will be other changes in this mod, not just textures

Ah, fair enough then! I'd be wary of mixing two different styles of mod into one though. I.E. a texture mod mixed with a gameplay changing mod as one package wouldn't be very consistent, as players would probably prefer to be able to download them seperate (for those that want textures but not gameplay changes and vice versa).

Granted I'm the guy who played Oblivion with Francesco's + MMM instead of just getting Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul because I like my modding changes to be modular/"hand-picked" instead of giant compilations that have hundreds of changes

I don't plan to tweak gameplay. That's to much work for one person.

Lighting maybe? And it's gonna be optional.

Your Textures are wonderful, please stick first on this part. Lighting is made nearly perfect by Plutoman and it works really fine with your textures, so it would be a big effort to improve this combination. But if you are try to improve Lighting i will use the best option

Ah I see, I just assumed from the title of the mod and what you said that you were planning on doing gameplay changes as well.

From what i see that's your job.

I first need to change textures that i'm planning to.

Gameplay is someting else. I did changed gameplay mechanics but in Stalker games. Never in TES.

That grass texture is a massive improvement, it was difficult to actually tell what the vanilla texture was (looked like mud). The road is an improvement too, but I think the stones look a little too large (still better than vanilla though). Great work.

The new bridge texture looks odd up close... or is something wrong in my game? This is the only texture I've seen like this: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/5224/tesv2012011422060115.jpg

The Bridge is vanilla retouched texture. Later i'm gonna make a better version.

The road fits perfectly. Larger stones look better, btw.

I have made a new dirt texture, mixed with grass now:
