Skyrim on Steam now for $40!

Post » Fri Jul 13, 2012 12:45 am

Just bought Skyrim off of steam today. Steam's summer sale started so Skyrim is now $40 for a limited time. If you've been playing it on xbox and have been wanting to play it on PC like me now is the time to pick it up!

So...what mods are must have? Installing it now, and am looking for some good ones.

Don't buy it yet! It might have a bigger sale as a daily deal before the sale ends

Already got it, I waited weeks for the summer sale to actually start...can't wait any longer lol. I played Skyrim on Xbox so much....but ended up quitting my games when I found out that a quest was bugged out of frustration. It'll be so nice being able to bypass these bugs now.

But really: Mods, which ones are good. I'm getting Midas magic for sure. Any others?

Oh snap, how long does this last? I don't have steam on my girlfriends laptop, and my z77 ivy bridge build will be done on tuesday!!!

This is the first game I'm re-buying (since my last copy was installed on some-one elses account, due to my laptop's motherboard melting(don't ask))

I don't know how long it lasts, but you can download steam and buy it, then just download it whenever you want to. Might as well buy it now while it's so cheap.

Get these.

Better food and crap - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3863

Sky UI (If you're using a keyboard) - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3863

Skyrim Static Mesh Improvement A MUST - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8655

WATER Improvement - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13268

Better character faces/bodies - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2356

Better blood (USE THE REDUCED SPLASH VERSION) - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/60

Enhanced Distant view - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1598

Another must-have, enhanced DYNAMIC SNOW - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10383

I'll be adding some more in the meantime. Also don't forget to download the hi-res pack DLC from Steam. It's really the only vanilla friendly retexture.

My top ten, in no particular order. Be aware that some of the visual ones might make a bit of a performance hit:

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13268

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8655

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18217

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20193

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20193 A must try at the least. Also get Jaysus swords with it if you want even more serious enhancements to weapon variety.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19733 This guy does fantastic work. Hedge Knight is probably my favorite set though (yes, I know many of the meshes are sourced from TW2).

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/7654

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13486

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5727

And finally, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18480 It does exactly what you might expect.

It's eight months after the release date, you can probably buy skyrim from amazon for £20.

I got portal for free last year, valve gave it away for a week. Nice game but a bit easy. I had it finished the day I downloaded it. Thats why I aint bought the second one, because I can probably get it for free at some point :P Also got Alien Swarm free, thats a good little game that.

6 bucks translates to just shy of 4 quid, enough for a decent pint and a packet of crisps. It's well worth the sacrifice for the quality you get back. I can't recommend a worthier place to chuck your money, unless the last humble bundle opened up again.

What pubs do you drink in? Because here is £3.80 a pint, and crisps are 80p. :P

But as I said valve give away games, and portal was bloody easy so I will just wait till portal 2 is free and grab it then for some light entertainment.

Is there a mod for weather stuff? I love lots of rain and blizzards lol. Or a console command.

Both, actually. Look on UESP wiki for the console commands. For mods I'd actually wait a few months for Realistic Lighting 4.0. 3.4a is great and already changes up some weather though. Beware of NSR (Natural Skyrim Rain) though, it causes save corruption.

I have a lot of mods that improve graphics without sacrificing computer performance. Some mods I find just really slow down your computer unless you have a really high end PC.

Anyway, I would sign up to http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/

It's free and I prefer it to Steamworkshop

Here are the mods I have installed

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/679
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1598
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2356
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4304
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13922
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/711
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20292

I'm sure there are other mods out there, but as I said, some of them can really slow down your computer, so I stuck with smaller graphical updates

Six bucks is close enough to free as far as I am concerned. Besides, I'm tired of being the only guy who has never played these games. It's like that friend you have who has never seen The Big Lebowski or Pulp Fiction. I don't want to be that guy.

That is about all they are worth. I felt pretty ripped off when I paid £30 for 8 hours of content.
