Pros: It's pretty. There is amazing attention to detail in some parts of the game. There is really good writing in parts of the game. There are areas that will take your breath away the first time you visit them (you can tell what they are because special music plays when you enter that area).
Cons: After 6 major patches and 7 months, there are still parts of the game that don't work. There are really big chunks of the game that feels as though there was no thought given as to how they would (or should) fit with the rest. There is really bad writing in parts of the game.
I recommend letting go of any expectations that you have of playing a RPG. Everything is on rails. Pick the right rails and avoid the others and you can have a very enjoyable 200 hours of game play. Try to actually role play, or start of down a path thinking that you'll have choices later on, and you're bound to end up frustrated.
If someone tells you that they love Skyrim or proclaim the Todd Howard is a god, the odds are they are a tweener being exposed to their first Elder Scrolls game. If someone tells you that it svcks, the odds are they were hoping for a real RPG and feel they got shafted. I hope that helps.
I role play in the game, and actually can. Oh my Akatosh. I must be doing daedric magic!
Sarcasm aside, I really do find Skyrim more fun to roleplay in. Not sure why. Call me a moron, mentally handicapped, or say I have no IQ. I can understand why you feel the way you do and am saying that in a non-passive aggressive way. I would have loved for it to have more features that it should have had, but what happens happens.
Most of these people probably bought into the hype, by the way. Or do feel the way you say. Or want to invade Russia while naked. I don't know.
