I'm hoping someone will make an unarmored mod soon.

A kensai? Two-handed sword and ragged robes type of guy? With no spells, you'll want to take a companion and a dog, to keep monsters distracted. Take enchanting to at least get some decent stats on your clothes.

Skyrim isn't really designed to play as a musketeer (no armor, light sword, etc.). Why no armor when most historical swordsmen did wear armor and if you're not wearing a shield, why not a two handed sword?

Do yourself a favor and wear at least light armor and if you don't want to block, get yourself something two handed.

I'll say too there are armors (light armors) that look pretty much like clothes (rather than armor) like the dark brotherhood armor, the forsworn armor, etc.

The problem with your strategy is that you want to fight close (where you will take blows) but have no armor to protect yourself. If you were using a bow or magic (or stealth) this might make sense. But if you want to be a warrior that fights close up you have to be able to take a blow or two. Otherwise the first bandit chief will one-shot you.

The only reason my character survives in clothes is fortify health enchantments. Big difference between being one-shotted, and two shotted with a chance to do something in between the first and second hits.

Returning to the difficulty question: Playing clad in clothes and gripping a sword, without magic, in Apprentice difficulty would be too simple?

You should be able to withstand Adept or higher difficulties.

All of the other posts are assuming that you're going to be an obsessive quester, this may not be the case. If you are playing to explore the world or to have a second life, you should be able to manage just fine.

EDIT: I do suggest tampering in the enchanting skill, if anything.

I am playing a Conan character 2H Barbarian on Masters its almost too difficult without armor even with Alteration. I'm thinking about wearing fur armor to make it tolerable because as it is I get killed by everything. You might be able to get by on adept but it will be challenging.

I might be able to survive on Adept, yet it is still some kind of long shot.

Verily.

Forsooth!

And Hark! Perhaps some magically-enchanted trousers would be to your liking. For even the dullest bandit blade shall not be turned by a simple poly-cotton blend!

EDIT!: Hark! A witch seems to have stolen my clothing, and my spelling ability! Make haste!

I am considering to make use of Light Armour. I fear that the Heavy counterpart is quite anti-climatic to a Swordsman, they are aligned with Warriors if you understand my concept differentiation. I will use a sword to block, lacking a shield, because I find claymores, two handed swords quite non-swordsman. They just look plain, simple, not requiring skill or strategy.

i have been playing only sword + shield, no armor on expert
Challenging and fun
This and the serpent stone is an excellent combo

Would it be approximately the same minus the shield?

I'm currently playing a Battle Axe wielding Redguard who has only ever worn clothes (currently in full Thalmore Robes). I play on adept and have had no problems up to this point which is level 20. My character doesn't even use potions. I simply invested heavily in health and wear enchanted rings, necklace, boots, and gloves with fortified 2 handed skill. I will only get nastier once I unlock the two enchantments per item perk. I run into battle, kill everything, then wait till my health recoups. I do use shouts heavily, though. Especially ice form. Sorry, wish I could have written that in high speech. I also specialized in smithing and currently use a flawless Orcish battleaxe.

A one handed sword is a perfectly viable option. With some blocking training and perks, it's fun to play for an RP character like my Ranger

Something emerged in my mind:

To keep it plain, without spells and bonuses, standing against tougher opponents with mere clothes, would the Apprentice difficulty turn out to be very easy?

With a build like you're proposing, there's no shame in starting at an easier difficulty as a trial-run to see if it's even viable. If the challenge level is good there and the rp is fun, more power to your experimentation. If it becomes too easy, turn up the difficulty. Better to start off easy to learn what might work and what flat-out won't fly than get quickly disillusioned from a harder setting. Good luck, and let us know any insights you gleam!

Count it for certain. I will try like you said. If deemed necessary I will return here with information and prespectives. Another question is bitting me though, how do I invest in status?

Tidings fellow heroes from the ever numerous Skyrims.

The experience of the North is not enticing me. Therefore I decided to branch into something different and more connected to Role Playing.

I desire to walk the Swordsman's steps.

To pursue this aim I want to ask thou fellow adventurers what do you judge best. I thought of being clad just in clothes and carry nothing but a sword. I wish to know if I will be able to survive living through this trade. 'Tis important to imagine what racial and mental status should my Swordsman vehemently portray.

In this, I shall pass the question to thou and thus await merry answers.

You sound crazy to me:P Archery makes the game alot more fun

I see. So maybe with the right enchantments...

I am a bit intrigued to the fact of Status. How much on stamina and health?

Going in just clothes can get pretty rough at times. My imperial politician only wears robes or something similar, and I've gotten sent from full health straight to Oblivion by a single arrow before. :flamed:

Maybe I will venture through Light Armour. What I request is help with the Status construction.

If you're not using alot of magic (which you don't seem to want to do) I'd put points mostly in health and stamina. My politician has points mostly in Magicka and stamina, which I'm sure contributes to the fact that he gets knocked out by a gust of wind.
