skyrim...was it short for you?

Maybe not 5 just alittle over, Skyrim has shortest MQ of all TES series.
Oblivion has a shorter one if you know where to go in the Oblivion realm.

I'd say all in all if one just playued the game and only done the MQ, or at least focused on it. That could be around 12+. Throw in no fast travel and it goes up to around 20.

EDIT :

just to restate this , my boy spent a good 3 weeks adventuring and taking the game in , his map is littered, he just went into the main story starting from the beggining pretty much and finished it in 3 hours his character is lvl 43 on adept

Oblivion has a shorter one if you know where to go in the Oblivion realm.

And skyrim can be finished in less than 3 hours if you know where to go. Proven by bethesda themselves when they did a speedrun inhouse.

My first run took about 13 hours. I was looking around a lot in the quest and theri locations. If you played Oblivion you basically knew what to do from the start. It felt the same in many places. This isn't bad at all. It's just Oblivion kind of prepared me for Skyrim.

I played Oblivion for years and never found out what happens after you take Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple.

I found Skyrim's main quest to be much more engaging, and with the second character I played, I completed it along with the Stormcloaks and Companions questlines. That playthrough lasted about 150 hours and I got as far as level 27. Played on Master difficulty, but wasn't using any mods at all.

Thanks. Oblivion really just prepared me for it. My first playthrough in Oblivion took me about 24 hours. The game felt new to me and I was confused sometimes. My second playthrough was about 14 hours. I was experience and I knew what to do. This is how I felt about Skyrim. The game was new but I felt prepared.

Not finished yet, and over 500 hours now. But I've done a lot of wandering around blindly and discovering things on my own, wasting time on role-playing and trying possible bug-evoking things out (like "climbing mountains"), and finally finishing side-quests and some major quests like the College of Winterhold, the Companions and the Thieves' Guild. And I'll practically have run dry all options with this character after completing the last part of the main quest.

I've never finished it, not once, in all of my playthroughs, have I finished the MQ, the Thieves Guild, or The College.

The main quest took me about 100 hours. I explored and meandered and lived the adventure.

Obviously the game is about more than just the main quest, but to me all the quest lines are shorter, and there are less factions so that is disappointing.

Being as how I've logged nearly 700 hours and have yet to complete the main quest, I'd say its lasted me quite a long time.

Makes me laugh when people say this, The MQ will still only take you around 8 hours to do then you will be like "oh.."

Not talking about main quest, but the game in total I can safely say that Im done with Skyrim hundreds of hours before I got bored with Oblivion and thousands of hours before I got bored with Daggerfall and Morrowind.
Its indicative of the overarching trend.
Dumbing down, simplifying, removing features, all to placate some mythical average buyer.
In the end this leads to the predictable result of a shallow and stale game.

Is that strictly by the stopwatch moving from objective to objective via fast-travel? Who plays that way? You? Not I. As I said, 371 hours and counting.

It wasn't for me but I didn't just blow right through the questlines. Though they do need to be longer.
