yes after i just killed an intire room full of people id be sweet to just pull out a cigar

After gunning down everyone in the room, covered in blood, you light up a cigar while propping up one foot on a bloody corpse.

(takes a puff) "I should have brought a rain coat."

It's dorky but in a cool way. :3

@Styles: Haha, I love that episode. Nice to see the tobacco company as the good guys.

On TOPIC: You can't even make the camera face your character's face... Try it on Fallout 3. Wouldn't be badass if you can't watch your guy smoke...

Although I think it'd be silly if there were conversation options where the person you are talking to is like "Oh, a fellow smoker, what can I do for you?". I've never seen smokers interact that way in real life (maybe I just don't interact with smokers enough), I think it'd be silly if they suddenly show sympathy because you also smoke. There could be speech options such as "Got a light?" to start a conversation or something, but nothing that is just odd.

You're right, I looked that over, and it did seem like a stupid converstion, but then again if smoking was very rare in the mojave it might make sence.

I can see myself in FO3, just can't zoom in on my face alone. Still would be good to have animations to smoke and to see the smoke.

GTA IV. You could murder thousands of people without him saying it was bad but get drunk and drive and they made him say things like, "I shouldn't be doing this" and "'m a bad person for this". Pretty much it's completely [censored] senseless.

I'm not sure about Metal Gear Solid 4, but I'm pretty sure in 2 (if not all 3) of the earlier titles you could smoke cigarettes (though it was more of a laser-alarm-detector I believe).

Never heard anyone complain about that. This isn't much different other than being a different genre of gaming and more elaborate with the actions.

= America Australia basically.

I don't smoke but I think it would be sweet to have some sort of option in Fallout. I think it should just be for looks though.

Fixed

In comparison to Australia, America is much more lax in what can and can't be in a video game

Not to mention the first Amendment pretty much guarantees that video games won't be banned due to their content

Other countries are far stricter with what video games can and cannot contain

they didn't actually want to remove Megaton, just the option to blow it up, you can only "Disarm" or "Leave it alone". Also they wanted the name of the "Fat Man" to "Mini Nuke Launcher" 'coz well... If you don't know Google "Japan, Fat Man". Also they we're gonna have the animation of using the drugs Jet, Psycho, Buffout, etc but pretty much every country spit chips over it...

On topic... I personally wouldn't mind it, however I wouldn't use it...

I think it should be an option. I think some people need to calm down and let people decide. It's the responsibility of the parent, not the company, if it is rated M and there is content that concerns some.

Trust me, as a smoker in restricted enviroment (Goverment hospital), it becomes a social thing, and you end up making connections with people you'd normally never see. And more than once I've used those smoker connections to back-door a section (what? Need a piece of equipment overhauled, bring it by. Naw, just bring it back we'll fill the forms out later). It could have definate possibilities as an 'alternate' quest completion method.
I'd also go for the whole impact on your performance (lower carry weight, running speed, healing impaired). A lower perceprion when withdrawing.
Nothing extreme but give it impact.

I don't smoke, but i'd like the option for some of my characters. I think a good dialogue would be like so.

(Possible Charisma check) "Hey, you got a spare cig?"

"Yea, for a fellow -------- sure." (gangmember, foreigner, gambler etc.)

OR

"[censored] no, you know how hard it is to find these things?"

or even.

"Hey, you smoke right?"

"What of it?"

"I'm quitting and I can't find a smoker around, just take 'em"

Just for a random encounter.

Knowing how sensitive some countries are it will spark some controversy seeing kids with characters that smoke and seeing ridiculous people saying how Fallout should be banned because it turns kids into smokers. It would be cool but its not really needed. It could work with modding though.

since some countries are, they should take it out, and day one, have a patch to put it back in.......

What if the game is full of anti-smoking things like are players special becomes addicted?

It doesn't matter. They had drunk driving in GTA IV. It didn't matter that the cops chased you relentlessly and they were unavoidable while you were doing it, it's very presence - negative consequences or not - was enough to piss parents off who should have read the back of the [censored] box before getting it for their kids in the first place if they were so skiddish.

its not so much the parents its more of the countries..... lets say Egypt doesnt allow smoking.... Egypt would probly give fallout new vegas an AO rating...

that means losing sales.... but if it was an AO rating in the US well i'll buy it anyway..
