sniper after patch?

Post » Tue May 31, 2011 12:47 am

mostly what I'm getting at is that the sniper rifle (especially the unique) should not be WEAKER than a hunting rifle. if they wanted to change the dmg, do it with the .308 handlaod (that's what "overpowered" it). i dont have much trouble killing things as i have every firearm, just now its no use to use my silenced sniper even if i'm slasher'd/psycho'd and i liked carrying those around fit my profile nicely...mxrp is overpowerd now, over 250 dmg come on now lol. even if its about a challenge just hardcoe/very hard....

The only problem with Very Hard is that it changes things across the board, so while it would take more hits to kill something with a sniper rifle it makes other weapons incredibly silly. The sniper rifle was a little overpowered before, but that doesn't mean I want to need to unload 2 clips from the 9mm SMG into a Fiend's bare head to kill him/her. :P Difficulty and balance aren't interchangeable.

To all those in opposition to the nerf.
Because a Sniper rifle isnt supposed to to be a godlike all-purpose utility weapon. It is an extreme range stealth weapon. They made it so it does the latter instead of the former.

To bad there's no m1 grand in the game

Then what do you call "this Machine"?

Softnerd, about your energy weapon ammo consumption Idea. What I think would work better is if they moved away from them as a concept as energy bullets and instead treated them as "clips" so you have one Mircofusion cell that you load and carry that would fill up a different amount of shots for different energy weapons. That way if you want to vary how "efficient a weapon is you just change up it's ammo count. Laser weapons are generally more efficient then Plasma weapons so have bigger clip sizes. Mods that add efficiency just have to change the ammo size.

I was puzzled about what they did with sniper rifles, although they were too powerful before. I'm too lazy to look in the GECK...do they critical more often than the hunting rifle?

It had a x5 critical chance mod so it was quite possible to achieve a 100% critical rate. Every shot would be a critical hit and with hand-loaded ammo and the better criticals perk. Well you get the idea.

In a good game you have good choices, one gun outshining the rest doesn't make for good choices. The old sniper rifle did that.
If you want a weapon that deals in the neighborhood of 300dmg a shot [which with hand-loaded ammo and better criticals was fairly close to the old sniper rifles damage when it hit.]
Just turn the difficulty down to very easy. The sniper rifle will be doing relatively the same damage again.

i wouldnt mind them nerfing the damage of the sniper rifle, but they over did it. the hunting rifle was supposed to be your average sniper rifle, while the actual sniper rifle your DPS sniper weapon, and the AMR your plain damage dealer, i mean, if they killed a bit of the recoil on the sniper id be fine with the damage nerf, but now its overly-recoiled and almost weaker than a hunting rifle, i mean, its so nerfed the DPS almost matches a AMR now, with the recoil still plentiful.

it should at least be as powerful as a hunting rifle if not a little more because they have more velocity than a common .308. i agree to not make it "all powerful" but at least have it make a little more sense. or perhaps have it as powerful as a hunting rifle and give it a little sneak dmg bonus

Ppl use the excuse the sniper made the game so easy with the 100 crit build but i want some one to tell me who or what forced them to use the sniper as an assualt rifle? And if u perfer challenge why not gimp?.All this responses just annoy me in the fact it cements my belief ppl hate others doing something they consider in correct even if it doesnt harm no one .Grat thing of fallout 3 was the fact if u wanted to be a god u could and if u wanted to have a struggle Y O U could modify it to your needs aka gimp.I belive in the rite to choose how u want to do things as long as it doesnt harm others. If u think nerfing isnt bad who the hell got the idea of nerfing the alien blaster considering the rarity of ammo?I do hope that obsidian stops listening to these types of ppl and gives ppl a more liberal way to play the game.

Well from what many people have said so far, it's still serves it purpose well. (As a long range sneak killer.) Now you just can't use it as a all purpose, any range killing machine. You know you have to actually use other weapons now for different situations.

Games have rules. I shouldn't have to make up my own rules. I just want to play...not keep track of all of the silly arbitrary rules I made up for myself. That isn't fun. I do not enjoy self-gimping. It kills my enjoyment of a game. If you want to cheat then play on the PC and mod the game or use console commands. Why should I have to spend my gaming time making up rules for myself instead of playing just so the folks that want an easy game don't have to be challenged? I spend all day designing systems, algorithms, etc. at work...I play games to have fun. I hope that Bethesda stops listening to these types and give people a challenge in their games.

See, there are two perspectives. Please note that I was spoofing your post rather than just being argumentative with you, so take it with a grain of salt. The fact is that the difficulty settings don't work, and because of that people that want a challenge and people that want the game to be easy can't get along. I will say this, though, I hate, hate, HATE being forced to self-gimp. Really, if I have to make up my own rules then why have rules at all?

That's what I'm talkin' about! :D They need to make the difficulty settings work better. Right now they just don't do much aside from make me use more ammo.

TBH I hate it when designers force me to self-gimp to get any challenge out of a game. If I didn't want a challenge I'd watch a movie or play a multi-player game against people that don't like challenge in their games. :P The main problem with this game engine is the way it's geared toward setting difficulty ONLY by adjusting damage ratios. It makes the difficulty settings fairly useless, so if they make it too easy people like me whine about needing to self-gimp, and if they make it harder people like you complain about not wanting a challenge. The way the difficulty settings work they can't satisfy both.

I was puzzled about what they did with sniper rifles, although they were too powerful before. I'm too lazy to look in the GECK...do they critical more often than the hunting rifle? If they do that kind of makes sense...they use the same ammo. The sniper rifle should be more accurate than the hunting rifle, but other than that I don't see much reason for it to be a lot more powerful. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that Obsidian svcks at balancing, though. New Vegas's changes to balance and game mechanics, to me, make for a lot more entertaining game-play than the ridiculously "streamlined" (read: dumbed-down) mechanics from Fallout 3. I guess Fallout 3 was "balanced" (in that any weapon you picked up made the game too easy...that's not a stellar balancing job either in my book), but everything somehow felt more generic and lacked in variety, which is inherently going to make it easier to "balance."

Fired? Really? Remind me never to work at your company. :) IMO the only time something should use more ammo is when it makes sense for the weapon to consume more energy. Since EW's don't use physical bullets I don't mind the idea of different weapons drawing more or less power from a fuel cell than others. Makes sense to me.

Dont get me wrong snipers needed to be modified, but not that much. Explosives are still weak, melee is godly and EW are all over the place. They should of made them all equal in the long run, with their own strengths and weakness. That didn't and has yet to happen.

Edit: Not to mention EW are super bugged in and out of VATS, with hit detection and all sorts of other things. Atleast on the 360.

anyone else's sniper rifle do half the damage it used to a few days ago on xbox? i was pretty upset that my gobi scout and other sniper rifles now do less damage than a common hunting rifle and almost equivalent to the repeater. this is [censored], and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever....anyone else got this problem? it's a big one if u ask me... :(

I just acquired a sniper rifle in my second game and I am so disappointed. And I'm disappointed with Boone as well. He was my favorite and he's been ruined. All this needs to be fixed. I can understand them being lowered in power a little, but they should not be less powerful than a hunting rifle.

i dont use the sniper up close anyways, prefer to use a shotgun like dinnerbell which i can't seem to find anymore with the patch either...either way all well i'll just put the game down and make a new build once they figure what else to muck up and theres no more patchwork. Dont like putting in 80 plus hours building a sniper just to have him rather use a bb gun or something; id rather not be forced into being certain type of character. dont know just a little ticked is all, was almost done getting my sniper built to 30 with a considerable amount of thought put into his build to end up with 6st 8per 1chr 7agl 10 int 10 lck now i got to change his perks all over again to focus more on energy weapons *sigh*

Ycs aka guass rifle even in fallout 3 had major hit detection problems as in u could nail them in the head and it would go thru them/energy weapons are good but only on pc due to the goo and ashe pile glitch. And J.e Sawyer has said ouple times he plans to buff up explosives in future patch/fix other bugs*hopefully goo and ashe pile.

This is welcome news the bigest fix to explosives is not the AoE imo.
If they gave impact from Missiles and launchers a higher damage ( think shotgun slug for grenade and Tesla for Missile ), then the problem I have of not dealing much damage to the target would be solved.
The AoE damage is fine, it's just no use when you have everyone hit still standing despite a direct hit imo.

To be fair, Energy Weapons and Explosives were underpowered pre-patch. Never trust gun nut to balance energy and explosives with conventional gun.
