sniper after patch?

Post » Mon May 30, 2011 9:25 pm

anyone else's sniper rifle do half the damage it used to a few days ago on xbox? i was pretty upset that my gobi scout and other sniper rifles now do less damage than a common hunting rifle and almost equivalent to the repeater. this is [censored], and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever....anyone else got this problem? it's a big one if u ask me... :(

Energy weapons were too crap.
So they got buffed.

Sniper rifles were too powerful.
So they got nerfed.

Snipers = Not a godpowerful weapon.

M1 Garand = An all powerful god weapon.

Yeah, I'm not even a big sniper person, but they do svck. I still think EW are still underpowered. Obsidian svcks at balancing. usually when something needs "fixed", they nerf it so its useless, they never just "fix" it.

Yeah, no longer is it possible to turn "Very Hard" into "Very Easy" with a 100% criting sniper rifle that does crazy amounts of damage.

At any rate they didn't touch my Trail Carbine, other than fixing the reloading bug, so I didn't mind the sniper rifle nerf.

First game I played with the sniper and modded it, I found it over powerful and that's like saying Ghandi thinks Atilla the Hun is a pacafist, when silenced it has no drawbacks.
If you want pure damage and long range take the best sniper ( imo ) and get a hunting rifle and fully mod it and make 308 jsp rounds for it.

As it's by far the most entertaining sniper I've yet used, powerful but requiring thought and placement.

Would be better if they didn't have to wait such a long time to actually release a patch..
So if they're going to make snipers better then I guess we'll have to wait until early february. -_-
(They should release smaller patches for balancing issues more often IMO)

I don't mind patches that take a while if they fix more things, And they could also focus resources on the DLC writing team.

yeah, I like Rat-Slayer better than the snipers, but still, I shot a Nightkin with my sniper post patch will JPS rounds and it only took like a seventh of his life away. Hopefully we get a small patch when Dead Money comes out on the 21st. also EW shouldn't take multiple ammo to use, that's stupid and who ever thought that up at Obsidian should be fired. The only thing that should take multiple rounds to fire is the Tesla cannon and maybe the Multiplas.

Problem lies with if they screw something up that we'll have to wait for that thing to be "re-fixed".
Don't they have two separate teams for bug-fixing and DLC crew? (I think Bethesda did for FO3)

I've never been too crazy about the sniper rifle in the first place, even in FO3 I didn't care much for it. I am however fortunate to be able to use mods for that, and have for my own personal use ported over one of my fav sniper rifle mods from FO3.

Energy weapons I agree that they have svcked from day one, which is why I haven't really used them much. The only one I have used was a modified version of the Gauss Rifle which still did some nice damage.

I haven't tried using the vanilla sniper rifle since the latest patch so i can't say how bad Obsidian screwed it up, however the Cowboy Repeater and the Trail Carbine appear to have been fixed.

AMR is my favorite rifle... just have to have a back-up piece if it does not 1-shot kill the target.

Anyone tried the RCW+ with Max Charge ammo?
I thought RCW+ was badass before but now I'd actually say it's overpowered.

They have seperate teams, But they have to concentrate one team by giving it more resources (Money?)

I do have Built To Destroy, and I still get decent use out of the Laser RCW ... but I switch between ammo types depending on whether Max Charge seems like overkill. With a high enough crit chance, I find it doesn't take many shots to kill things with my EW character anyway. (And with Meltdown, even the enemies I shoot with the RCW explode just about every time.)

And back on topic: A silenced sniper rifle is still a pretty amazing gun. I think it's now basically meant to be used for sneak attack crits above all else, and in this it excels over other scoped weapons.

TBH I hate it when designers force me to self-gimp to get any challenge out of a game. If I didn't want a challenge I'd watch a movie or play a multi-player game against people that don't like challenge in their games. :P The main problem with this game engine is the way it's geared toward setting difficulty ONLY by adjusting damage ratios. It makes the difficulty settings fairly useless, so if they make it too easy people like me whine about needing to self-gimp, and if they make it harder people like you complain about not wanting a challenge. The way the difficulty settings work they can't satisfy both.

Yeah, I'm not even a big sniper person, but they do svck. I still think EW are still underpowered. Obsidian svcks at balancing. usually when something needs "fixed", they nerf it so its useless, they never just "fix" it.

I was puzzled about what they did with sniper rifles, although they were too powerful before. I'm too lazy to look in the GECK...do they critical more often than the hunting rifle? If they do that kind of makes sense...they use the same ammo. The sniper rifle should be more accurate than the hunting rifle, but other than that I don't see much reason for it to be a lot more powerful. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that Obsidian svcks at balancing, though. New Vegas's changes to balance and game mechanics, to me, make for a lot more entertaining game-play than the ridiculously "streamlined" (read: dumbed-down) mechanics from Fallout 3. I guess Fallout 3 was "balanced" (in that any weapon you picked up made the game too easy...that's not a stellar balancing job either in my book), but everything somehow felt more generic and lacked in variety, which is inherently going to make it easier to "balance."

also EW shouldn't take multiple ammo to use, that's stupid and who ever thought that up at Obsidian should be fired. The only thing that should take multiple rounds to fire is the Tesla cannon and maybe the Multiplas.

Fired? Really? Remind me never to work at your company. :) IMO the only time something should use more ammo is when it makes sense for the weapon to consume more energy. Since EW's don't use physical bullets I don't mind the idea of different weapons drawing more or less power from a fuel cell than others. Makes sense to me.
