after my last guide i listened to *most* of the community and updated it.
let me know what you guys think, i'll be playing thru this one once my anti materiel character is done.

lockpick, science and repair are 90 because i can use magazines when i need to open the few very hard safes/terminals and because 100 repair is unnecessary
barter and speech are 50 for the majority of the speech checks in the game. magazines/drugs should carry you for the 60+ ones. if that's not good enough for you, take the good natured trait and have 90 speech.

All irrelevant.

Just carry a bunch of Steady on you and you will NEVER miss.

Steady gives you 95% to hit in VATS no matter what your skill is, the weapon you're using, or the distance.

I don't see it mentioned in your guide so I'll add this here.

10 Luck + Finesse (+5 crit chance) + 1st Recon Beret (+5 crit chance) would give you 20 critical chance. The Sniper Rifle and Gobi Campaign rifle have a critical chance multiplier of 5, so this setup will give you 100% critical chance with a sniper rifle.

The math works, but I would be interested to see if you actually do crit 100% of the time in game.

i don't want to rely on a drug so i can cheese my head shots with a sniper in vats..
sorry my guide is *irrelevant* in your eyes. for anyone else who doesn't want to rely on your method i'm sure this guide will be more then that.

Lol, well he did ask for an in-depth reason why I thought it was awful... Maybe I'll come back to this later, I'm still tired from curb-stomping the last build. :snoring:

if you take the good natured trait instead of trigger discipline it will free up 20 points with +5 to speech, effectively bumping your speech up to 75.
with party mentats (+10 speech) moonshine (+4 speech) and a +10 speech magazine this will effectivley take you to 99 speech. you may take one point out of barter to reach 100.

hell if i know.. everyone [censored]ed about it last guide so i put it in there to shut them up.

i'm personally using good natured.

on a .03 radius shot the bonus is .006 with a half a second delay on shots.. not worth it.
(considering .03 degrees is like the dot of an 'i' on the loading screen.)

There really is no need for a sniper guide.
All you need is Steady.
Then crouch. Wait for the reticule to go perfectly over his head... and *click*
Don't forget the silencer. What kind of assassin are you without one?

...The apparently damn good kind, it would seem.

I dunno about you guys, but I don't ever use steady. I've got a big ol' stockpile of it. At most, I use Psycho, Buffout, and MedX when there's nightkin that need killing and my gun specialist only has a bumper sword to kill them with. And for some reason I tend to snipe with scopeless weapons. Using a 10mm pistol then getting a sneak crit with the bloody mess perk and [censored] up a powder ganger's day is the only way to play this game.

I think of sniping as EXTREME range... like outside VATS range and at that distance trigger discipline actually helps. I play at 2560x1600 resolution so I am sniping stuff with their head the size of the dot on an "i". It is great fun and really challenging to hit those damn cazadores when they are a blip buzzing around on the screen. A silenced sniper rifle is great for thinning out crowds at a distance and I bust out the AMR for tougher opponents. I 2 shot the legendary deathclaw using an AMR... yay for stealthboys (on very hard and hardcoe mode)! I don't use drugs and magazines in the game because I am too lazy to carry stuff around and I don't really care about doing everything "perfectly". The only perks you really need are better criticals, hand loader ammo, and silent running while the rest is just gravy. "Built for destruction" is horrible for a sniper since you are going to kill most things in 1 shot and the rifles degrade sorta quick anyway. as long as you some how get str to 6, agi to 10, and per to 10 you will rock...luck 10 is nice, but not needed.

1 shot, 1 kill. that is how it is done!

I don't see the point in going over 6 agil and 6 perception in any build, much less a Sniper one.

I can't find anywere on any site that shows perc/agil helps with aim. (outside of lolVatslol)

I beat it on very hard/hardcoe with only a Supressed-SniperRifle.

Perception increases your draw distance, so you can see stuff farther. I modded the sniper rifle to have about 2x more zoom, gave myself 10 Per and I could hit stuff in Nipton from across the dried up lake. It's kind of a big deal.

hmm. Didn't know that.

I use 6 and it's more than enough for very hard vanilla. Dont really see the need to zoom any further unless I want to play total god mode, altho its already close as a sniper.

hmm. Didn't know that. either way you can use apparrel and implants to make it 9 if you start with 6.

Yeah, it's undocumented, and yeah, going above 6 is kind of a waste.

mhmm.. that's why i have two variants, i personally didn't notice much difference with trigger discipline.. if anything the real issue was the hitboxes on moving targets (bugs)
i also made a build around the amr and found i didn't really like it.. it wasn't as accurate as the other snipers and the damage wasn't THAT amazing for the hassle of having it and it fired way to slowly.
also your 1 hit kill theory doesn't work well on certain enemies, for example targets in power armor or deathclaws. i found the gobis 100% crit chance was much more useful

remember tho, it's all preference. both guns work and this is just my view on how i like to snipe.

also yes what the guy above said about perception AND
agility makes you move faster and reload/draw your weapon quicker, ontop of having more action points and boosting useful related skills.

and using the related perks to boost them frees up what items you can wear.
