Woah... I must be pretty bad when it comes to soda if those are the average numbers for soda drinking... I sometimes down 6x50ml cans of pepsi a day or 3 liters total.

All I can say is that I'm far from being overweight (a bit too skinny really) and I have healthy teeth, no idea what all of this pepsi is doing to the rest of my body though...

I agree, it's really weird. Makes me wonder at what point in history we started doing it and why...

I remember seeing an advert for milk. It was basically the company saying how did this genius get the idea, was he mad? More than likely! Drink our milk we made it less crazy :D :P

Maybe try swapping one of the soda's with fruit juice instead? Orange juice for example is fairly sweet, so you won't feel like you're missing out on the sweet stuff. I don't drink fizzy drinks and I feel a lot healthier for it.

Depends on the person and their metabolism I guess. I used to drink several a day and was pretty overweight. I decided to stop a couple years ago though. Too many empty calories.

I am not overweight or anything, but i think i drink too much soda. I ALWAYS have at least one a day and have 2 a lot of the time. And when i drink alcohol i mix with soda sometimes which can be like 4-5 in one day.

How unhealthy is this? I am young now but when im older is it going to cause me to be mroe unhealthy? I am definitley addicted.

There is a LOT of sugar in a normal can of soda. That alone is reason enough to cut back at the very least. One a day isn't exactly bad though, but it's not good either. Just about anything is healthier than soda, with the exception of alcohol which is even worse. :stare:

If I drink 2-3 a month I'll have drank a lot :P I generally go long bouts between drinking soft drinks.

Agreed, there's a lot of sugar in soda, and it's not the best thing to just dump that amount of sugar in you all at once. Especially people who have a family history of diabetes should watch things like how much soda they drink, IMO.

Soda is terrible for you. One can of coke has 39grams of sugar. That's like eating 39 sugar cubes. It damages your kidneys and pancreas.

Most fruit juice isn't much better.

Try coffee, tea (unsweetened - sweeten it yourself), or water.

You made me check -- my juice only has 2 grams more sugar per glass than my milk, so ha!

You're probably talking about fruit juice cocktail, which is concentrated juice with added water, sugar, and preservatives.

Two or three glass bottles a week is my coke consumption. As I do not drink alcohol, smoke nor do any narcotics I feel my use of lemonades is rather justified. I do, however, consume 0.5l bottle of energy drink twice a week when I go to work as my work involves 7,5 hour of constant walking (dozens of kilometers a day) on those days

I read that drinking a small glass of wine a day is very beneficial. Obviously drinking 5 beers a day is never good but a small amount of alcohol is good for you.

Normal fruit juice - ie the pure stuff - has only slightly less sugar than a can of coke. It's obviously better what with the vitamins and stuff but if you drank nothing but pure juice it wouldn't be very good for your teeth and you'd spend plenty of time on the toilet.

EDIT - I only really drink Irn Bru; I used to drink it all the time at uni but now they stopped selling it in Sainsbury's near me I don't have it nearly as much. Miracle hangover cure though.

Yes.

Also:

Welch's Graqe Juice has 36 grams of sugar.

MinuteMaid Orange Juice has 22 grams of sugar

Mott's Apple Juice has 28 grams of sugar.

Some of the sugars are naturally occurring, as opposed to high fructose corn syrup, but it's still sugar. Differs by brand of course, so maybe you guys have access to better juices than I do.

I believe you can get coke that is sweetened with cane sugar outside of the US which is marginally better for you.

I drink amost exclusively diet Pepsi, not because it's non-sugar, but I fancy the taste better. I'm trying to drink water/juice etc but I am addicted to it and get sick if I don't drink soda.. I dunno why, probably just mental but I swear I get a headache if I don't get my daily dose of fake sugar.

Also mixing soda and alcohol is nasty imo. I use to mix Captain Morgan (fishystick btw!!) with regular coke and I believe that It's made me less interesting in coke later on..

Also I love tea and coffee if that's a good replacement for soda.

Diet soda.

Artificial sweetener is probably worse for you than sugar... the health risks never seem to be researched until years after everyone's been drinking them though.

I used to drink 2 cans a day. One at tea time and lunchtime. I would then go home and probably drink a good amount from bottles.

I didnt have many teeth problems, but it did seem to be starting so ive cut back. Another reason was because i hardly ever drank any water. Seriously, the only water i got was whatever was in soda/food etc. I started to get very sore/irritated skin on my face.
I switched to drinking just water (with diluting juice). Usually drink about 2 litres a day. It seemed to help my skin problem, so not sure if lack of water was the problem. Been about a year now off the soda :celebrate:

Though i do have the odd can of energy drink, love the stuff

Edit- also, had been buying 2litre bottles of strawberry flavoured water. Stopped when i checked ingredients and seen there was as much if not more sugar than some of the soda drinks.

I just decided to stop drinking soda one day and haven't had any since. It's been about 2.5 years since I had any.

I now mostly drink milk and the occasional cup of tea.

Haha I've tried to switch to regular but I can't. I drink Coke when im out when diet is unavailable but otherwise..

I've heard artificial sweetener is bad, but I'm not quite sure what it's bad for. I'm still kinda sceptical to it, and after 10+ years of heavy soda drinking It haven't had any effect on me.. I'm trying to quit it though..

Bleh. More frilly anti-oxidant propaganda. Sure, ignore all the damage alcohol does it has a few micrograms of ANTI-OXIDANTS ZOMG IT CURES HEART DISEASE AND CANCER AND AGING.

The thing about artificial sweetener is that it replaces sugar. So instead of two tablespoons of sugar in your soda you're drinking two tablespoons of aspartame or whatever new thing they use. We haven't been using it long enough to really know the effects from that, and therein lies the danger.

If I had a choice I'd rather just drink the soda that has sugar in it over the one with artificial sweetener.

Not really mate, it's been proven that drinking 2 units of alcohol a day in later life (eg a small glass of wine) can significantly decrease your chances of getting heart disease, and that both teetotallers and heavy drinkers are 50% more likely to die of a similar disease. So it's not 'propaganda', actually.

Also, if you don't mind my asking, you're not a drinker are you?

I think soda is worse for you than alcohol actually. I heard drinking 1 can of soda is worse for you than drinking 1 can of beer. The problem is though that people drink 6 packs of beer in a day and most people dont drink 6 cans of soda in a day which is why people get beer guts.

If it's non-diet, any is too much. Empty calories, refined sugar, zero nutritional value.
