The armor with that skull ?helmet? and lightbulbs doesn't exactly please the eye. Everything else looks good though.

What's with the crank behind the clip?

I'm certain it always had one in FO3, the face mask however I like...
Maybe something to do with reading faces in NV?, protection for the casino to make sure their dealers are secret? or just simply a new outfit that boosts stats "luck"?
So theres another card minigame although based on blackjack which is in allready, (maybe a quest related game?), and many collectables hey!

Edit: damn I misunderstood. you just meant why is it there.
In which case to load a solid slug into the breach, for the micro cell to trigger a magnetic charge to expel it when you fire.. Was my personal guess.

The picture is worth more than anything. the only problem I have is that the words and picture suggest that the Gauss Rifle is still an energy weapon (likely for game balance, but it makes more sense to me for it to be a projectile weapon).

I, for one, love our new big horn helmet.

I never understood that weird ass crank or the magazine jutting out of the side of the gun considering it was single shot anyhow, the crank seems to have no use other then aesthetics but all the same its ugly as hell. (If I had my way I'd get rid of that crank and give the Gauss Rifle a buttstock and actually make use of the side magazine.) :tops:

well we can asume the armour system works just like Fallout 3, so if ya like one but not the other, remember ya can wear something else.

Personally if I do a survival dude with a scoped hunting rifle and lots of sneak, I′m so making that skull his head gear :3

Looks very similar to the advanced power in New Vegas but with more detail.

Advanced Power MK II?

The Gauss rifle consumes microfusion cells and doesn't employ gunpowder, so I think it fits into Energy weapons.

The big magazine on the side is supposed to be a solid chunk of steel if I recall correctly--a tiny bit gets shaved off for each projectile, and it is treated as an infinite supply. The microfusion cell powers the magnetic field that launches the projectile. Maybe the big crank is to wind the chunk of steel further in as it gets used up?

A few interesting details in that article--skinning Geckos is confirmed, and it sounds like campfires are fixed locations like workbenches and reloading benches (that's my take, anyway). And you can collect Legion ears (presumably for the NCR). I wonder what you can collect from the NCR for the Legion?

I like the gasmask, too.

Yeah, I wondered about that too. It brought to mind a comment from a dev in one of the E3 preview articles: "There's worse things than Deathclaws out there..."

As long a external ballistics (buller drop, that stuff) isn't modeled, then it might as well be in energy. It is a hybrid. Shoots projectile, but isn't a firearm.

That's Mass Effect. FO uses 2mm slugs. The crank is used in the hang fire animation. When it misfies, you wizz the crank around a few times, iirc.

Most likely Enclave Tesla Armor or something similar.

I liked the Gauss Rifle a lot in FO3, but for NV, it's just an overpowered weapon. I don't think they should have it.

My favorite line of the article includes something that is new to me anyway.... IMPLANTS!
We even included the best weapons, outfits, Perks, Skills, Implants, and Followers to compliment each Archetype.

Also looks as though crafting is going to be a much bigger deal than just modding weapons.

It wasnt overpowered in Fallout 3. Its DPS was awful and wasnt worth using unless it could one shot kill the target.

Well, I guess it was a good weapon, but it was overpowered. For New Vegas there is supposed to be a lot more of a challenge.

Sweet. There was plenty of new info in that article :tops: Whoa whoa whoa roxas76. What do you mean by overpowered? Possibly the fact that you had to reload after every shot or that you couldn't repair it to 100% until MZ?

Hopefully it's not unique. I don't want the Gauss Rifle to be a rehash, it needs some modding capability.

"There's worse things than deathclaws..." Oooh. Now I'm gonna have to hunt down a "Fiend" and kill it at the earliest level possible. >:D I'mma have to kill a dealer for that mask... It looks really freaking cool... O_o

EDIT: Oh and it looks like Mr. Hodgson's back to his old tricks- refering to thing through the most convoluted method possible and mis-spelling every third word....
