Something I've noticed in many Bethesda Games that shouldn't

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 1:00 am

actually, when you think about it, the people you hire (with gold, not friendship) should be the ones to wear any and everything you tell them too, you paid them after-all, but all NPCs should have some kind of preferences, it is hard to roleplay a game where everyone is the exact same robot in a different suit of skin with a different phrase to say

I suppose. But the developers already have made many followers without much of a story, I don't see fleshing out followers as one of their main priorities. But then again, it never hurts to have npcs with great backrounds and stories. Sorta like that one certain fellow in Cindna mine!

Not much can be done about this for consoles except appealing to the Devs. good luck.

That said I`m on PC and I hate having more than one Follower. It gets cluttered and annoying.

Trust me when you're an Altmer, expecting people to do things exactly HOW you say it, WHEN you say it, and WHY you say it will come quite naturally.

Not everyone has the oppurtunity to have a pc capable of running skyrim. Why else would I post this, for [censored] and giggles lol im just kidding

Well in that case I’ll try to make you feel better about my experience with multiple companions.

I go into a tomb and one of my permanent dremoras runs straight ahead into the corridor to kill an enemy and the other dremora stays behind me. Dremora makes quick work of the bandit in a tight corridor, stops and looks at me. I try moving past it but the corridor is really narrow so I couldn’t. I turn around and my second dremora is right behind me and I can’t past it either. They were both permanent so not like I could wait 20 seconds. Not only was it awkward being stuck in a dremora sandwich I also had to proceed to beat one of them to death to move forward.

Well, I would most likely use multple followers when assaulting a fort (Such as the one near Whiterun and the watchtower) armored up as Empire soldiers instead of parade them inside a bar. So no, when I say let's have multiple follower's, I mean multiple followers to assault bases and march outdoors and so on. However, if you would want to take multiple followers into a bar, hehe its your single plaer experience so why not. Although, havng multiple Lydia's would be very bad.

Very. Bad.

 Just like Lydia when using one follower. However, instead of taking many followers into a tight tomb, you can make better use of them outdoors and without the possibility of getting stuck in a narrow space and having to beat one to death.

Have you ever played the Empire quest line? If so, remember when you explore that dungeon with multiple soldiers? Yeah, sort of like that, except any dungeon any (or most) time. I had no trouble with the npcs blocking narrow ways.

That’s just 2 many, the most I had was 7 and I had serious trouble avoiding my own guys.

Well maybe that's just you too. 'm sure many of us would be able to avoid being hit or hitting our own guys. Perhaps in open ground combat. Tombs may be a little difficult...

How many times did you hit your single companion TODAY?

Not once. No joke. It's easy to have your companion(s) attack some dudes in front of you and you go deal with the archer in the back.

Dragon Age had a party system. I didnt consider the other controllable characters followers at all. I much more prefer the follower system in Skyrim. I cant quite place why i like it better, but it probably has something to do with the feeling that having one in Skyrim is a 'bonus' in some way, instead of it being forced upon you in games like Dragon Age, where an entire party is intended. Also in the ES it feels more beneficial to having someone trying to watch your back and carry stuff for you in such a large open world. And i definitely agree that you should be able to have at least two more human followers with you. Anything beyond that, besides thralls, would be overkill.

I would at least like to lead 3 soldiers so I could actually feel like a sergeant instead of being told I am, yet still participate in attacking a fort the same way I did when I joined the empire.

Bethesda really didn't want to highlight the weakness of their AI, pathing, and following, by making it something the player would do often. It's already annoying trying to get multiple followers through complex areas.

Well, suppose you take advantage of having multiple companions and make use of them outdoors and less complex areas like how you do now with one follower.

I think a good way to implement multiple followers would be the ability to have 3 perm followers and then when its time to raid a fort, town, etc, you'll have temporary command of another 10 or so npcs that will follow and fight with you. You should also have the ability to choose what theyll be skilled in: Archers, Warrior types, and mages, or combination of any

I like that idea too. But how would the system know which fort registers as a possible canidate? Implanting the system might be a little difficult, but beside that I agree. Nice idea!

Not sure if troll or valid question...

It's hardly different from playing by yourself unless you play with Lydia. Other than that, we can't answer your question really. How about you hire one and see for yourself. I'm sure multiple followers would be fun though...

Well I kind of mean the game gets easier to play when you have a follower as normally when your in trouble you can palm off the aggro onto your follower, I would've thought with 2 or 3 followers you can pretty much follow them and never have to do anything to help. If you enjoy that, that's fine I'm not trying to insult, but would it be fun in the long run is what I'm getting at, or would it just be a novelty thing for a few hours?

Well for roleplayers, it would be very appreciative to be able to lead followers. You can dismiss them at any time so no I don't think this is a novelty thing.

For RP purposes I would love to have like 5 followers but for 3 of them to always try to walk 10 steps ahead of me and 2 remain behind. That way when a fight starts I can take out my collapsible dwemer chair sit down and have some mead. I wont ever get mad, I’ll have people to do that for me.
