Something that Bethesda just can't get right. (Spoilers)

I agree. I get sick of guards asking if I "fetch the mead" for the companions after I've already become their harbinger.

The thing is, wouldn't people complain if the guards greeted them with all of these different titles at once, forcing you to stand there for a good five minutes as you listen to the congratulatory speech? And then have to hear it for the rest of your playthrough?

That is easily fixed, just have them do one. Who cares if they don't get all of the titles, just do one and give me the respect that goes with it.

Why not limit us to one Faction?

The only thing I did notice is a guard in a hushed tone said "hey, I know who you are.. hail Sithis!".
And if you have a nice record of doing crime in a certain hold, the guards speak to you a bit different.
But it would be nice to have people react to you like they did in Morrowind when they found out you were the Nerevarine. I mean, you are the fricken dragonborn, you single-handedly saved the multiverse (almost.. had 3 others help a bit), and the LAST Dragonborn became the emperor. It is almost a rare of a thing as the Nerevarine i think.

So yeah, a more fleshed out rep system would be nice. This would be patchable for sure.
the only thing I can say about the random revenge attacks is that it can cause paranoia, like "did someone see me do that? I have to be more careful" if it was implemented properly. Have someone who witnessed your action NOT decide to attack you, but gasp and slip off to go hired these thugs or tell the guards or something. That would be more realistic.

Cause then that would have even more complaints from people who learned awesome loot from another faction can't be received by them because they chose the wrong faction.

The simple fact is no matter what Bethesda does there will be people who hate it.

In Morrowind Guild Reqs were arbitrary and easily gotten around due to the master trainers being able to give unlimited skill trains per level and people complained becuase of how useless they were.

Bethesda removes the pointless guild req and locks down skill training in Oblivion and then DAM people complain about that also.

No matter how they do the responses someone is gonna not like it.

realistically-

Be Dragonborn. People know you're Dragonborn before they even should. Not tracking with you here. They also daydream about being Dragonborn- "I got to thinking...maybe I'M the Dragonborn..."

Be the Head of the Thieves Guild. Why does the public at large know you're head of the Theive's Guild, exactly? Aren't they supposed to be, well, sneaky?

Be the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood. Same deal as with the Thieve's Guild. I'd find it more odd that people knoew I was in the DB

Be the Archmage of the College of WInterhold. Bizarrely, even mages don't know who their Guildmaster is. A glaring error

Be the Harbinger of The Companions. Should be a well known position and the person would be renowned

Be Thane in every single Hold. Should be well known...in that hold

Bring the Civil War to an end. Should be admired by one group and hated by another. Agreed

Collect all the Daedic artifacts and all Dragon Priest Masks. How would people know about this?

Visit places that haven't been visited in hundreds of years. Again...nobody would know

Max out your skills. People who are professionals in those skills should comment, but some NPCs do comment on your skills in general

Become a Master of Shouts by collecting Words and eating hundreds of Dragon Souls. The only group that really knows its stuff about the thu'um do act well disposed to you and respect you

Travel to Sovngarde as a living being. How would the general public know?

Eventually beat Alduin, the World Eater. Should never have to buy your own mead ever again

Nobody gives a [censored]

Am I really doing this to get a few comments from the City Guards? I'm sorry Bethesda, but this takes a lot of the game's immersion away. I mean, I really LOVE this game, it's my favorite TES so far, but you can't seem to actually award the player with reputation. Sorta do, in mnay ways. Just not as well as they might have

would be pretty cool if they did what fable did. When you finish the game you have an option to have a statue made of your character

They actually did that in Oblivion. At the end of the main quest, in Bruma.

I said this in another thread, but this would be fixed if they just made the NPCs SHUT UP.

But, you're forgetting something!

It's no suprise the guards don't seem that amazed by your adventures, because they used to be adventurers just like you! (Then they took an arrow in the knee)

Im more annoyed by the fact that Brynjolf sees the dude in dwarven armor who has done nothing but good things since entering skyrim and thinks "This man, would make the perfect theif!"

Heh. No kidding.... And the major thing that irks me about Brynjolf is that you can't just exit out of his convo and never have anything more to do with him - you ALWAYS have the "listen to his song and dance" in your log. And if you listen, it's worse.... Only way around it - either NEVER go to Riften, or make sure you don't get into aggro range of him. Damned hard to do, that.

I had my own statue as the hero of Bruma in TES IV-Oblivion. I would not mind having another one in Skyrim. :foodndrink:

And I totally agree with what you're saying. That said, some minor tweaks would be nice. I think the common complaint has always been some recognition of status. I'm not asking for NPC's to suddenly drop and kiss the ground I walk on. But that some lines get bypassed when I become the leader of a guild. Or at the very least when I become the hero of the world... (as I continue to play the game) there are a few indications based on responses that I am indeed the hero of the world.. or at least a small part of it.

It's indeed a difficult thing, I wouldn't want to be a game developer trying to make all of us happy. :P

But please, oh please!!! Don't don't don't make TES into Fable. I like Fable, I have played Fable... but when I want to play it I'll play it. I LOVE TES and when I want to play TES I want to play TES.

Lol This would be funny, like a medieval herald.

"My Jarl, I am proud to present to you Dragonborn, Bane of Alduin, Harbinger of the Companions, Archmage of the College of Winterhold, Guildmaster of the Thieves Guild, Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Collector of Daedric Trinkets, Thane of every hold in Skyrim, Defeater of the Saxons, er, not that one actually, uh.. Master of the Thu'um, Master Criminal in each hold, Keeper of an Elder Scroll, Dragon Hunter Extraordinaire, yadda yadda etc. etc."

Yeah this kind of bugged me after I bothered to focus on the main quest first and then the civil war, both around level 40. I realized in the middle of the civil war quest line, after I had defeated Alduin, that there was probably nothing left in the game that could possibly challenge my character - and since my character was starting not to like the side of the civil war she had chosen (the Stormcloaks) why didn't she have the option to either a) change sides or B) fight for her own usurper throne? I was spoiled by Obsidian's scripting in Fallout New Vegas, I guess. At least Skyrim isn't quite as buggy as that one, though.

Morrowind managed to truly reward the character for actions taken. Sadly both Oblivion and Skyrim failed miserably. Skyrim just feels rushed on so many accounts, it's like they put all their focus on graphics (not graphical innovations mind you) and size, and didn't give a crap about quality and.. well.. quality.
