Be Dragonborn.

Be the Head of the Thieves Guild.

Be the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood.

Be the Archmage of the College of WInterhold.

Be the Harbinger of The Companions.

Be Thane in every single Hold.

Bring the Civil War to an end.

Collect all the Daedic artifacts and all Dragon Priest Masks.

Visit places that haven't been visited in hundreds of years.

Max out your skills.

Become a Master of Shouts by collecting Words and eating hundreds of Dragon Souls.

Travel to Sovngarde as a living being.

Eventually beat Alduin, the World Eater.

Nobody gives a [censored]

Am I really doing this to get a few comments from the City Guards? I'm sorry Bethesda, but this takes a lot of the game's immersion away. I mean, I really LOVE this game, it's my favorite TES so far, but you can't seem to actually award the player with reputation.

I can say that becoming a Stormcloak and usurping their holds affected my reputation with certain NPCs a lot.

Ah, never change, forums, never change. Scanning the thread titles is like getting hit with a wet blanket in the face every time you turn around. A rotten, moldy wet blanket, with the smell of gym shoe.

No wonder you're disillusioned by the game if you boil it down to those few basic goals and objectives. And if you're just doing it for rep and glory then.. maybe this game is not for you? That's not an insult, by the way. It's just that you make the main 'objectives' of the game sound so un fun.

I also had this complaint. But I explained it away in an RP sense: You are the leader of all these things but you are never actually doing your job. You are always absent just running around Skyrim exploring random caves. You basically spread yourself too thin and are an incompetent leader and no one really respects you. But they give you the obligatory greeting and occasional well wishes.

So I just Fus Ro Dah them in the face every once in a while.

It seemed like your actions either had no consequence, or your actions were being watched by omnipotent creatures who sent small armies at you for taking a few things.

Kill everyone?

They'll try to stop you.

That is a reaction.

I refute your point.

I wasn't saying that it was a huge let down for me. I still love the objectives, rewards and everything, but it would be much better if you actually have the option to be more famous, if you want. Remember what The Greybeard said to you after beating Alduin? It'd be better if after completing most/all Daedic quests (for example), you'd be feared throughout Skyrim. People would try to hide, speak in a different tone to you and point your fingers at you here and then.
That's just a small disappointment. Guess I can RP being famous.

Kill a man in the dead of night with an arrow from a rather considerable distance. The man dies instantly. you claim your arrow and loot his corpse. you travel to the other side of Skyrim. the man's wife knows you by name. she hires thugs who know your face. they attack you. The guards in the town you are in do nothing. You kill them to find that they are indeed hunting you.

better yet, you steal several bottles of mead, undetected, from the Black-Briar Meadery. There are no witnesses. The area is not deemed off limits. You escape through a back door. You go to another town. You are attacked by a dark brotherhood agent. Maven knows your name, your face, and that you took mead from her meadery. You decide that maybe you don't like this woman. You try to kill her. She is marked essential because she is involved in two quests, not even the main quest.

Is there forensic Evidence in Skyrim?

It's funny how Bethesda got rid of the telepathic guards and implemented an even more terrible system.

I honestly think they trolled the [censored] out of all of us with this system.

"Oh you want to complain about telepathic guards? We'll get rid of that...but now we're sending 6 people to kick the ever loving [censored] out of you!! HAHA!"

I really would have loved to be in the room when they decided that was the direction they were going to go, if only to reach out and slap someone in the face. Ridiculous how they just can not reconcile the fact that there shouldn't be consequences for people who don't get caught. How about just making it harder to steal things instead of being derpish about it?

yes.. although i give Bethesda all my thanks for making a game like no other (bug and all - although i hope they get fixed soon), i kinda see the OP's point. it would have been nice to see NPCs change their attitude towards you. DONT GET ME WRONG... Love Love Love this game but maybe it's something Bethesda could use in the future. XD it would be nice to be respected or feared or hated depending on how you act and your achievements in the world

I suppose it can be really really annoying to break your back doing good deeds for people who then dont even have the decency to thank you or acknolwedge your efforts in any way other than a few vague and repetitive comments uttered as you pass them in the street.

I don't think what the OP suggests is unrealistic. I loved Morrowind, Oblivion and now Skyrim. They are great games and probably what kept me playing video games all these years. That said.. When I become the leader of the Companions and some beat up looking yahoo looks at me and says I still have to prove myself and calls me a whelp? Really?

After becoming the Listener for the Dark Brotherhood, when I got to the Thieves' Guild... why do I still have to shake someone down for money by smashing their urn?

And why the hell am I sent to beat up Arcadia by the Companions?

would be pretty cool if they did what fable did. When you finish the game you have an option to have a statue made of your character

Since we have the option to go into several of these factions, we should have the option to have some of our exploits affect our other factions.

I do recall that a fence in the mages college responded specially if you were the guildmaster, but I would look further into it. Connect them. Intertwine them, or more importantly, restrict us to following through one, and one only.

Flame away, but i'd like Bethesda to implement a Fable-like system in any future games where people genuinely react to fame be it good or evil to complement the game. And I completely agree on the hired thugs if you're not caught. That's annoying, also the guards saying "wait, I know you" instead of arresting you on the spot. Say what you will, but "Halt, criminal scum" is a hell of a lot more realistic.

Agreed. I REALLY hated that. OR even if you become Thane of Whiterun the guards still treat you like absolute crap. ORLY?

Yeah, want an example of better scripting?: "Have you been to the Cloud District lately? What am I saying? OF COURSE you haven't! :D"

Making a character only say ONE SENTENCE everytime you encounter them.. drives me mad. Like comeon, is that seriously all he's good for? THAT ONE LINE? -.O
