Something you may not know

I share everyone's anger and frustration about the game and the amount of problems it has, and that it requires multiple tittle updates but the next time you start to rant, get annoyed or whatever it is you do ( i for one do both of those lol) think about this....

Fallout: New Vegas has been on sale for 23-25 days depending on where you live so if you want to round it up about a month and we have had a small update with news of another coming soon for console users and one already available for PC users.

Now when Gears Of War 2 was released on the 7th of November 2008 no one saw an update until the 21st January of 2009. Which is about two months after release. The second update wasn't until the 24th of March 2009 again after another two months. Then the third on 28th of July 2009, which was 4 months later. So going off that I'd say we might not see a major tittle update for a little while.

I thought this would be a fair comparison as Gears Of Wars had alot of problems on release and probably received alot of anger/frustration from the community aswell. If you do not agree with my statement in anyway or think that i have missed something please reply.

P.S. I don't think this is in the right area sorry.

Sensible post. I think a lot of the problems stem from "instant gratification syndrome." To a lot of people, if something isn't absolutely perfect from the beginning, they'll complain about it in uncivilized and non-constructive ways.

EDIT: And yes, before it's even mentioned, I understand that all of you having problems "paid good money" for this game. I paid money, too. But you have to realize that with something as intricate as game design, problems will (and should be expected to) occur.

DOUBLE EDIT: And on another note, no developer is innocent when it comes to bugs. Fallout 3 had many terrible problems in the early versions. Oblivion suffered problems, as well. Hell, if you want to go back even further in time, Daggerfall is a (very fun) bug-fest, even at the most recent version.

I must admit I am guilty of the "instant gratification syndrome." Usually after a day or two of thinking about it i will see the bigger picture. One thing i always try to remember is that games like new vegas are always prone to glitches and bugs.

I understand what you are saying and as Killian says a lot of it comes from people wanting it fixed soonest. I've vented my frustration at the patches yesterday messing up my game which until then had been running fine, so I'm guilty of this too.

Yet I think you are jumping the gun a bit thinking we wont get a major update soon. Quite to the contrary Gstaff has posted that one is in the final testing stages for all 3 platforms. Quoted below:

"Posted 05 November 2010 - 07:16 PM
We wanted to give you guys a heads-up regarding the latest progress on Fallout: New Vegas updates.

We’ve come up with solutions for the Xbox 360 save issue folks are reporting, along with a number of other issues being reported. We’re currently running final testing and certification on a comprehensive patch for all three platforms (PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), so we’ll have something available in the coming weeks. When we have more details, we’ll let you know.

In the meantime, an incremental update for PC should be going up by early next week that will fix the save corruption issues and problems with companions, as well as improve performance for NVIDIA users and resolve some issues reported with Havok."

Problems with the game for me:
Energy Weapons Unbalanced.
Too biased towards NCR.
Too few Legion quests.
No reason to explore previous areas once one gain levels because of fixed level spawns which means no challenge or good loot.
Illogical invisible walls.
/opinion (I guess)

How much of this could be patched?
3.
EW, Invisible walls and Exploration.
/opinion

How many of these do I think they will patch?
None.
/opinion

I'm sure they'll release regular patches for bug-fixing and stuff every month or every 1? months.
So I'm not so excited for patches really.
I mean it's nice to have some bugs fixed but the bugs isn't the problem with the game for me so I don't care about them as much.
/opinion.

After typing all that up I then realized that haha, but thanks for pointing that out. Anyway what really matters is that they are already releasing patches when it might have taken other companies longer.

Most posts on these forums that I've read think EW are nerfed and that invisible walls are really in the way.
The enemies fixed spawn thing on the other hand is my opinion.
I admit that.

While I would like to see some of these things dealt with, they are not game breaking, just the things as individuals we do not like.

While those invisible walls are annoying, they have more important things worry about haha:) I never really use the energy weapons so i have no idea about them, i rarely create bad characters so there goes the guest for them, the NCR svck balls run them out of town lol and if you want a game that you will always want to explore go play WoW:) haha you wont get probably wont get bored of that.

Just cause they're going to fix bugs doesn't mean they couldn't remove some of the illogical invisible walls and tweak some energy weapons with the patch.

At least NV fixed how you could kill anything with a butter knife in FO3. Energy weapons feel a lot more like 2 where they were more like novelties at end game, which is not really a good thing. If they gave the plain sniper rifle a slower rate of fire It would not be so overpowered. As for bugs, there have been games that could not even be installed without patches within the last decade.... people forget those though.

Some invisible walls are just way too annoying, like the one to the east of Primm.
It's a looooooong invisible wall stretching from north to south.
I don't see why I couldn't just jump over the rocks.
Another place is a little north of Ranger Station Charlie, there is this smaller high rocky thing (wouldn't call it a mountain, more like a really really wide and fat pillar).
Anyway, I wanted to jump up on that to look out through the area from higher ground.
And for some reason there is invisible walls there.
It gets more and more annoying with each time I find one.

Only one I want to stay is the one's to the north of goodsprings and around Quarry because they're there for a reason, to prevent the player from instantly reaching Vegas.
I can accept those.
But one in the middle of nowhere?
Those just gets in the way for no reason.
And I don't see why it would be a problem to remove them.
Modders removed them fast enough a couple of days after the game was released IIRC.
So I'm guessing it's easy to remove some of them.
I just don't see why they need to be there if they have the ability to patch them out.

If an overwhelming number of people think there is a problem with something, chances are it should be fixed, whether its a matter of opinion or not. Look at Halo Reach and their Betrayal Boot system. Alot of people were fustrated with the "1 betrayal you get booted" (depending if the person you betrayed boots you, which happened 90% of the time), so Bungie switched up the system to allow more breathing room with accidental betrayals.

I would say that very few developers are guilty... Bugs happen (its like one per 7 lines of code; or was it 5?).
You can look at a block of code, see how it works, (even see how it does what was intended), and still not see why there is a bug. No one codes bugs deliberately to cause trouble.

Well said, Gizmo. In hindsight I misspoke on the perception of that fact. I guess I'm guilty of "instant gratification syndrome" myself by typing up something really quick to get a point across. :P

"instant gratification syndrome."

That certainly is a problem, no matter what game at hand. Streamlining and dumbing down has been the plague of gamingindustry for some time now as it seems that devs take all of their customers as complete idiots.
