SomethingAwful "previews" hardcoe Mode

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:13 am

Sounded lke something Mugglelover would write when he gets angry at people wanting some challenge to their games.

You and Aonoran just made my night.

Haven't read much, I take it?

Read my later post; I was commenting more on the level of comedy value and your apparent lack of exposure to stuff that's genuinely funny.

i don't think hardcoe is going to be that hard, in fact i don't think its going to be tied into the dificulty slider, it will mprobbly be a clickable option.

Correct; hardcoe mode is independent of the difficulty slider. Upon exiting the room you find yourself in at the start of the game, you're given a choice of hardcoe or Normal mode.

Actually, one in-game minute is one about one second in real time. So one day would be 24 minutes, I think. Not sure, but about then, yes. So eating and sleeping and drinking could be fairly well maintained if you had enough caps for food. Anyone know if the experience meter fills faster in hardcoe mode? In Fallout 3, harder modes would grant more experience.

Default timescale is probably gonna be 30:1 just like Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Morrowind are. That translates to 2 seconds per ingame minute. Also, no clue on the increase of XP from harder difficulties or from hardcoe mode, but I hope neither is a feature of this game, because they're logically unsound.

The premise wasn't funny, but some of the individual lines were.

this. that said, even though this was probably the least overall funny thing i've seen from SA, it's not really surprising that bgsf doesn't understand what they're about.

Those who truly want the hardcoe experience from hell will have to wait for Mezmorelda and Kai Hohiro to finish the New Vegas form of FWE, and for Martigen to apply his otherworldly radiation to the monsters with MMM. After that I expect to die every 10 minutes.

Ohhh, the sarcasm in in your post... I've always said text is such a great method for conveying subtleties such as sarcasm. Especially unformatted text!

Nothing wrong with a little crass heavy-handed humour that makes fun of a sub-sub-sub-culture.

Too bad only 1 in 500 people can actually relate to the jokes, AND they're a snarky fickle demographic.

Did someone say SA charges for access to their forums? :lmao:

I almost started to laugh, but then I thought about all the posts on this forum complaining that the game wont be hard or hardcoe enough. :sadvaultboy:

Seriously, the thought of any of the ideas being posted here actually being added to the game terrifies me more than anything short of a REAL global thermonuclear apocolypse :bolt: :nuke:

I agree with the "not funny" sentiment. Just a bunch of really obvious attempts at cynicism.

When SA first started it was free. Now it's 10 dollars to join. The reason? It costs $3,400 per month in bandwidth bills alone. They still have to put up lots of ads just to keep the place going but a lot are taken away when you register.

Main advantage: If you post nothing but terrible, pointless and/or whiny crap (like the majority of posters in this forum) you'll get banned, and have to shell out another $10 to rereg. Actually making people invested in their forums account and accountable for what they say goes a long way towards weeding out bad posters.

As I recall [from reading], they had a debug setting for dehydration that was a fraction of the intended rate... The dev suddenly started to die and could not get a drink fast enough.

Not read anything about this, but many "hardcoe" modes in older games destroy your saves when you die (so you cannot just reload). You have to end the game while alive, in order to resume where you left off. (I know of one fantastic game that CRC checks the save against tampering and refuses those that have been tinkered with.)
