My son is playing my character

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 7:10 am

Situation: My son started playing Skyrim on the PS3 using my character since he has been out of school for the summer. He plays differently than I, so we agreed that he could have the house in Solitude and I would keep the house in Windhelm. What he collects (as long as not quest estential) he keeps in his house and the same for me. I have noticed that my stuff keeps dissapearing from Windhelm. I want to remind him of our agreement in a fun way.

Question: If I take all our loot and stuff and place it in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Hjerim then take the key to the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Hjerim and hide it in the house in Whiterun. Will the game not allow the cahracter to entry to the house if he does not have the key on the charcter?

I believe if the door has already been unlocked, then it doesn't matter if you have the key or not.

I think a cool place to hide loot is where all of the dragon priest masks get displayed. Hide the wooden mask too, if you think it's necessary, and then he'll not have any access, even if he suspects where it is.

One thing about locking stuff is that most NPCs can unlock doors - even those locked with a 100 console command. And if he's smart he can get a follower and just instruct them to unlock any door, and they generally can.

Fill his house with cheese wheels. I'm pretty sure there's duplication glitches out there.

Ooooh try the Labyythian, with the Dragon Prietst Mask that teleports in time. I gurante he wont find it, just make sure he can't find the mask.

Collect as many small items as possible (wooden plates, forks, buckets etc) and literally fill his house up stating that you needed some room to unload your stuff as it seems the agreement isn't being kept.

What are you playing on, PS3, XBOX or PC?
On a PS3 all you have to do is create another user file and let him uses that one. That way you both can play and he will have his files in his user name and you have yours.
Sorry dont know about PC or XBOX. I do know with a PC you can create a second user account, but I dont know if it will seperate the game files too.
XBOX do not know, never had one and never used one.

Yeah I have 4 different user names on x-box. I don't know how many you can create. I play Skyrim on them all different types of characters.

Just enjoy his pranking and go with the flow. It's a great bonding experience and you can get a serious game going again when he goes back to school. It's great there's another new RPG gamer out there. :) :tes:

Lord Raven - Do you mean user accounts as in the PS3 accounts? I thought they all shared game files.

By new account I'm assuming he means the "new" option on the Skyrim main menu. This will give both you and your son a separate character.

you could make him his own save file or get another ps3

Or he could just create a new user profile for his son...

I would ask him what kind of stuff he collected that day, then take specifically those things and place them on a table or something. Then he will know that you caught him taking things.

HOWEVER, I have also heard of stories where skulls and such have disappeared from people's houses for no reason. I would confront him about it first to see if it's the game. The last thing you want to do is steal from him and find out that he never stole anything of yours.

Btw everyone, the OP is asking on how to remind him of their agreement, not how to make a new account. He obviously wants to keep playing the game with his son, I doubt he doesn't know how to set up another account.

Hjerim is pretty bugged. I have stuff disappear from there all the time.

You could move into a new house he doesn't know about, like Vlindrel Hall or something.

Or get married, don't tell him, and move into your spouses house. He'll probably never figure out who you married or where she lives.

Did you even bother reading what he asked for? He wants a way to remind his son of their agreement, not make him get his own game file.

Or hide your stuff then grab all of his stuff and play a game of hot or cold with him as he wanders through a town while you tell him if he is getting hotter.

a friend of mine did the same thing so...I tested a method (I saved) then threw Everything from all houses and inventory into a river
Result:he learns not to touch my possessions at the risk of me turning off autosave and him swimming wildly attempting to reclaim his share of the spoils

try "voice of reasons" idea

Another idea is to smith ~100 iron daggers, improve them, and then place them in his most used chest. Improved items do not stack, so he'd either have to pull 100 daggers out, or withdraw all and then deposit everything back in.

EVEN BETTER! Take all of his stuff, then place it in one sack and then put the improved daggers in it! oh and enchant iron armour and name it "I know what you did" and put it on top of the chest.

Or just put 2 in there. One that says "I know what you did" and the next named "this summer"...

Or is that too corny...

Yes I did, did you bother to get a sense of humor? Putting your foot in his ace is a great way to remind him of their agreement.
