Sorry Bethesda - but Forbes has a pretty good article about

Forbes have provided the reason why Skyrim isn't their GOTY. And if we can all be honest with ourselves, it raises a valid point.

My fundamental problem with Skyrim is the unfortunate lack of good stories, and it it good to see a widely circulated publication voicing similar critical review.

DE:HR is fantastic, yup. One of my biggest praises for it is it didn't ignore the PC market, it visually optimized the game for modern PCs and provided a somewhat- optimized interface. That shows a certain level of grace and professionalism, unlike Bethesda who essentially spat in the faces of PC players with their total absence of PC optimization.

So true what the article said. Skyrim is big, but it is shallow and repetitive. Still writing has never been Bethesdas strong side so I wouldnt bother complaining about it because they did a great world to explore, which is what TES is about really.

Deus:Ex was a brilliant game, but there is no way it isn't suspect to exactly the same criticisms the reviewer voiced about Skyrim... and addition it is filled with very big drama cliches, had bosses even more generic than skyrim and the only thing your gameplay affected was the voiceover on a multiple choice ending... it wasn't exactly a Mass Effect style conclusion.

What it had was very good action, nice graphics, good soundtrack, extremely good level design and a cool main protagonist. As far as "stories" go, it is a very typical sci-fi yarn done to death.

Just wait -- soon there'll be a load of posts about how that website svcks, but every website that ranks Skyrim as GoTY doesn't. And how all the games that bloke likes svck too.

Skyrim isn't my GoTY, either. It's a good game in itself, but I agree with what he said.

(p.s - For crazy fanatic weirdos - this game is brilliant, but if you can't handle valid and reasoned criticism please kindly GTFO of this thread)

Arguing must be easy when future arguments are determined, judged and ignored based on blanket statements.

I'm sorry, but Deus Ex simply does not deserve GOTY. It is a brilliant game and I'm even a big fan of the game universe, but there are many games released this year which are simply better.

although i agree with many points in the article, comparing SR to DE:HR and Portal is wrong as they are completely different games just as much as COD is different to Dragon Age

games should be marked. criticised and reviewed on its merit alone not compared to a barely similar game

My Game of the Year is actually The Witcher 2... Its definitely not for everyone but it fits me like a glove made of gossamer and spider silk. Yeah Skyrim deserves RPG of the year maybe because you truly can play any role you want, but I prefer to play specialized games that do what they do very well. as the saying goes "Jack of All trades, Master of None" sums up Skyrim well.

I can't argue with any individual GOTY choices as it's all subjective. Skyrim is mine, but if that guy loved human revolution that much, good on him for having the conviction to say so.

I can't disagree with his reasoning either. Skyrim does fall down on the faction questlines. Lucky for me I've always been big on freelance exploration, but it's a big minus point for those who aren't or place more stock than I do in factions.

At the end of the day, opinions are like bumholes; everyone's got one.

This. Skyrim really reminds me of like JRR Tolkien, where he comes up with this astounding backstory and world, but his writing at the story portion leaves alot to be desired. The lore for TES is incredibly deep, but you have to go out of your way to find and thus it is not utilized to create compelling stories for the player to follow.

Forbes is ONE opinion among many. As if Forbes is the gold standard upon which Skyrim will base their success...whatever. And Deus Ex was boring.

Yeah, there's nothing compelling about any of the stories told in Skyrim. Good open world, lots to do and kinda gives you a blank canvas, but story wise, it's far from the best and is repetitive, very repetitive.

Don't understand why people can argue against it being repetitive, unless of course, they're playing a different game.

Paul Tassi isn't Forbes. The article is titled "Why Skyrim is Not My Game of the Year", not "Why Skyrim is Not Forbes' Game of the Year".

To each his own though.

Third person shooters are a dime a dozen. Unless the game by itself is good and most importantly FUN I don't really give a crap. Skyrim is super fun and the fact that your bothering to post on a SKYRIM FORUM means deep down you think so to. Everyone who posts on this thread is just lying out their ass if you don't think Skyrim is GOTY.

I come here because its busy, no matter what time I visit, and because I enjoy the game immensely. Just because we don't believe its game of the year doesn't mean we hate it hate it hate it. Like I said before Skyrim is a jack of all trades and it is the best RPG on the market because it truly is a completely open RPG, But because of that it never really digs into anything in particular.

What a bizarre post. I also post on the BioWare forums, yet i thought DA2 was a complete and utter heap of [censored], what gives?

a game basically has to be a 10/10 or 0/10 using your logic.

Well, I'll be playing this game all the 2012 year (not only this year to say the truth), while with other games, you can play them a month at most before end up bored. So, in my case this is the game of the year, as have been previous TES games.

Valid reasons, indeed. But Skyrim is still GOTY for me. Portal 2 and Deus: ex does not have great storys IMO so the reasons in the article applies for them as well. In my opinion of course.

It's hard to disagree with any of his points. They are all valid. Still my GOTY though. This has also got me interested in Deus:Ex which i'm gunna try.

I can argue with anything the Forbes writer said. They are all valid points and I'm hoping Bethesda is reading these and the other complaints people have.

It might be a good game, but it is a FLAWED RPG. Until Bethesda realizes this we'll keep getting more crap and not quality RPG's.

Yeah, he raises some valid points but I bet I could list the a bunch of negatives about Deus Ex and Portal 2 if I wanted to.

Critics rarely have much clue and what makes his opinion any more valid than anyone elses.

Go to a top resturant where they serve you a carrot on a stick of ham with a smear of sauce and you will get critics raving about it.

Skyrim is my GOTY because I love RPG's and this is the best RPG to come out this year.

The graphics are unsuppased and just think what they will do with Fallout 4 with that new engine.

Skyrim rocks FTW!!!!!
