Amen. I want my choice, not restriction. I won't complain if some combination is overpowering, since it remains a singleplayer game. I wish Betheseda would stop yanking me around and give me levitation back so I can float atop of these NPC bags who keep spewing their life stories onto me.

I agree 100%. Most arguments against having spellmaking as an OPTION revolve around "I lackz teh self control!1!! Pleez cut content, Beth!"

Funny we have enchanting for spell making, but we can't cast spells. I am disapointed with no spell making, but Oh well, at least Bethesda tried to make a TES game different. I think it failed so hopefully whey will put it back in a DLC or at least hopefully back in TES:VI.

Removing spellmaking turned TES magic system from a unique system that as far as I know no other game had to a generic magic system that's outdone by other games. Bring it back!

simple fix for enchanting and smithing.. enchanting: like daedric weapons and armor, make finding soul gems a lot harder to find.. so when you actually do find one it feels good. same with smithing. it should be more difficult to find ebony.

Our spell users need it to customize ourselves.

These Elder Scrolls games to me are about options and with the current magic system in its complete lack of overall spells and spell creation we are lacking options. Therefore it limits our roleplaying value as any type of spell caster.

well if you didn't use the spell maker, and felt that there were too many spells. why did you use magic? or why did you learn all those spells. i'm not trying to insult you, but this attitude is the reason skyrim was so stripped down. "i don't want to have to read too much", "i don't want to have to look through all the things in my inventory"......it's really a shame.
... Are you trying to say that the Oblivion spell list was an example of good UI?

Sorry, but no. Oblivion needed a spell delete. The "I don't want to have to scroll through all my spells to use the one I want to use" complaint is valid. Pretty sure it has been recognised by the devs too.

I didn't care to much in Oblivion because there were more powerful variants of the same spell however in skyrim there is only one of two. For example I really like the "flames" spell however after level 10 it is useless. With spellmaking I would be able to create a stronger version of that spell (with higher cost for balance) and continue using it. Instead I am forced to find another spell. It has gotten to the point where I have 3 destruction spells worth using.

Exactly....

Not to mention that master level spells are irritating.. I have a number of scrolls that I can't use because in the "Oh sh!t" moments when I need or want to use them, the charge up time and staggering is impractical.

At the moment, I'm having problems with area of effect spells and companions. The sure fire method at the moment seems to be to use an atronach and the element that they are immune to, but it would be much nicer to have spell making and make, for example, a 50 point icespike, as NPC companions and dogs are completely screwed.

Having said that, my ability to aim the spells doesn't exist anymore because I rely on the area of effect spells too much.

Merari always says in topics like this that spell making in Arena was really what differentiated Arena from the other games of the day and made it successful. I'm not sure how much of a hyperbola that is, but I do agree that without spell making, magic isn't all that fantastic.

Also: First time on the site since they changed the layout. I'm loving it!

While I'm not certain precisely what your question is, I am in favor of having spell making return, and my post in your thread supported that.

The enchanting menu beared 0 deviance from its implementations in the past, same goes for the other Crafting outlets and even the "new" ones. so whatever "spreadsheety" ness Todd and Co was going on about earlier this year was garbage. if their intent was to remove "spreadsheety" ness from the TES series they sure had a poor excecution in that route. just put Spell making back in and call it a day, I Disabled M'aiq the moment he made a swipe with "Magic plus magic = magic no?) and its funny that they use a FORUM MADE STATEMENT and gave it to M'aiq. I hope the forumer who said that realizes this

I applaud them for it. The spellmaking system was a complex method of giving people the ability to create spells which really wrecked the game. It made all other abilities moot. There was no reason not to use it, other than roleplay.

Totally irrelevant in a single player game... it s every ones own game so they can do what they want, wasnt even forced on you by gameplay, my archer never used it, my mage did.... the removing of it is the removing of one more freedom the player had...

Umm... does anyone else notice the hypocrisy of claiming that the only reason to use a specific element of a role playing game is to role play?

For moderator CCNA or others who could not cast certain powerful spells in prior TES games... well, you have to understand how to make the spells so that doesn't happen. It was never about the size of a PC's magicka pool, but rather all about chaining spell effects together. You didn't need a large pool of magicka for any spell in prior TES games. All you needed was the proper combination of effects.

I hope we get spellmaking back in some sort of patch or expansion even..Maybe if we make more threads, Bethesda will put spellmaking back in!

Actually, spell-making was weakened in Oblivion. True you could have a ton of spells customized. But, most of the ones I used took advantage of the system. Example, fortify persuasion and fortify barter together to get 100% value with merchants. No, you don't have to do that. But, I did. And I wound up with a ton of spells I couldn't delete. I would have loved to be able to delete and rename spells at will. I couldn't -- that's consoles for you. However, Skyrim has enough tomes and ways to increase your magic that there isn't a need for more. I've stated it before and will state so once more. I like having standardized spells in the game.

I imagine they won't add it due to being able to get 100% magicka reductions.

You do need some more powerful and scaling spells though. They became pretty useless pretty fast.

The spellmaking of Oblivion was broken as the smithing in Skyrim is.
I rather don't have such features than the way they are implemented.

Even better it would be of course, if Bethesda would actually put some thoughts into the mechanics they implement and make them work in a way, that they don't kill the value of other mechanics.

I would like to see the level of customization with spell making Merari describes about Arena. I have not tried Arena out but one cannot deny that more is better. With spell creation we had options and we need more spell types to expand on those options and create our mages how we wish to play them. I do not wish to be subjugated to a mediocre magic system like this, we need spell creation and additional spell types.

We lack diversity, spell creation was the depth to this system. It was the soul of magic and without it we are left with with a barren husk fompared to what it once was. I like the idea of equipping the spells in your hand to use them, I loved that idea in Morrowind, it makes ne think of what we could do with our spells if we could use spells in both hands and have the spell effects from Morrowind, Oblivion, and now Skyrim. That would be amazing, they need to start adding to these games instead of taking away.

Hopefully if we complain constantly, Bethesda will reintroduce spell creation in TES 6. I hope so anyways, because I will be unbelievably mad if we are left without it again.

I got an idea. I started a topic called "GIVE BACK OUR SPELL MAKER" and it got merged into this thread. That means someone moderating the thread at Bethesda saw it and moved it into this one manually.

So everyone make a topic post called "GIVE BACK OUR SPELL MAKERS", every day. Eventually a moderator would get irritated with it and delete or lock out posts with the word "SPELLMAKING". And if they have to do that, the point will have been made. Bethesda will know then, for sure.

Like when protestors actually tried to get arrested, because then the trial would serve as a public forum. If we make them block out the word, or lock out the members for doing nothing but that, that'll tell them how much we want it.

So everyone who wants spell-making to be reinstated (through DLC , hopefully, or in TESVI) make a post topic called "GIVE BACK SPELL-MAKING!" If nothing that'll be whining louder than the churlish pricks who made Bethesda get rid of it.

Yeah well ... I hope you will get banned for spamming then.

If you want Spell making, then rather do it right like that guy:
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1303444-excusion-of-spell-making-a-bad-developing-decision-and-why/

He explained how a spell making system could look like, which might not break other aspects of the game.

i've still never heard this explained logically to me, how do you "break" a single player game. the definitions i've figured out just by reading some of these posts seems to be "the game allows me to do 'X', which is too powerful and i shouldn't be able to do that so take it out so no one can do 'X'" i'm not sure how this is a valid argument...to be fair i started playing pnp D&D so i guess i learned not to get upset at "self gimping"
