well if you didn't use the spell maker, and felt that there were too many spells. why did you use magic? or why did you learn all those spells. i'm not trying to insult you, but this attitude is the reason skyrim was so stripped down. "i don't want to have to read too much", "i don't want to have to look through all the things in my inventory"......it's really a shame.
... Are you trying to say that the Oblivion spell list was an example of good UI?
Sorry, but no. Oblivion needed a spell delete. The "I don't want to have to scroll through all my spells to use the one I want to use" complaint is valid. Pretty sure it has been recognised by the devs too.
I didn't care to much in Oblivion because there were more powerful variants of the same spell however in skyrim there is only one of two. For example I really like the "flames" spell however after level 10 it is useless. With spellmaking I would be able to create a stronger version of that spell (with higher cost for balance) and continue using it. Instead I am forced to find another spell. It has gotten to the point where I have 3 destruction spells worth using.
Exactly....
Not to mention that master level spells are irritating.. I have a number of scrolls that I can't use because in the "Oh sh!t" moments when I need or want to use them, the charge up time and staggering is impractical.
At the moment, I'm having problems with area of effect spells and companions. The sure fire method at the moment seems to be to use an atronach and the element that they are immune to, but it would be much nicer to have spell making and make, for example, a 50 point icespike, as NPC companions and dogs are completely screwed.
Having said that, my ability to aim the spells doesn't exist anymore because I rely on the area of effect spells too much.
Removing spellmaking turned TES magic system from a unique system that as far as I know no other game had to a generic magic system that's outdone by other games. Bring it back!
Merari always says in topics like this that spell making in Arena was really what differentiated Arena from the other games of the day and made it successful. I'm not sure how much of a hyperbola that is, but I do agree that without spell making, magic isn't all that fantastic.
Also: First time on the site since they changed the layout. I'm loving it!
