*Spoiler*Comnts on the Gameing Union Interview

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:02 am

Methinks the reviewer made a mistake writing the article. 9mm Laser Pistol? I reckon he meant 9mm and a laser pistol. The real news here is that Josh not only changed the varmint rifle to 5.56mm but also made a .357 available early. We always knew we started off witht eh 9mm from Doc Mitchell, could steal the laser pistol deom his shelves, and that you get the Varmint rifle from the tutorial quest, but where do we get the .357 from?

Everyone who does the tutorial gets a low-CND Varmint Rifle. Your other starting weapons depend on your tagged weapon skills (e.g. a Laser Pistol for Energy Weapons). If you didn't tag anything (or if you tagged Guns), I think you get a 9mm Pistol. The 9mm Pistol doesn't do much DAM, but it has a better DPS than the Varmint Rifle or .357 Magnum Revolver. It also has a high ammo capacity and reloads very quickly (especially compared to the .357 Mag. Revolver). You can buy .357 Magnum Revolvers early on or take them off of dead folks in the areas around Goodsprings.

And yes, I think the interviewer transcribed something incorrectly. There is no "9mm Laser Pistol".

Good info.
By the way... Is there any chance, before the releaseday, to have some light in how the weaponskills and weapon tiers work? None of the interviewers I've seen seem to be interested in those mechanics.

I'm confused as to wether I should read this or not

It just states what starter quipment you get not anything on the plot.

Also what happened to just starting with a jumpsuit and a 9mm? with or without preorder?
Nvm.

So it's not just a very little laser pistol. I'm sad now.

Thank J.E. Sawyer! :tops: Sounds interesting that you can get a weapon specific to your Tag. Any word on what you get if you tag 2 weapons skills? Would Unarmed characters get brass knuckles or something? What do you get for tagging something like Repair or Medicine? Repair kits, Stimpaks?

Actualy im happy that

a) tag skills now mean more than just +15 (you get something usefull for at least some if not all of them!) and
B) theres now a reason to tag energy weapons because you get one right off the bat and not have to go trudging down to super duper mart or hope you get a lucky random encounter or that you run into the gun caravan and he has one on him for sale

Glad to hear that, I remember tagging Energy Weapons one time in FO3 and not having any Energy Weapons whatsoever to use for quite a while. :tops:

I was just making a joke about a 9 milimeter long laser pistol. Wouldn't you want one?

ahh, thought you were refering to it like it was the GURPS Sci fi "holdout" laser pistol (although that one was a 10mm I think)

I'd love to see "holdout" pistols comeback though... Makes me think of 1st edition Star Wars RPG.
