Spoilers: So very very underwhelming...

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 2:10 pm

So, leading up to the final battle with alduin, I was psyched. Kodlak was there, the emperor, I'm seeing all these old faces from the awesome quests I've done up to this point. I'm jazzed! This is awesome! I even get to fight with the three ancient heroes that first defeated alduin ((Mind you I wanted to lodge my boot firmly up the rear of that stupid mage guy who used the elder scroll in the first place))

I beat alduin! I saved the world! And then....nothing....WHAT?! I talked to the greybeards, to ulfric, to tullius, even to the Jarl of white run. none of them even mentioned it! Sure, Agnier gave me his speech about destiny and how I wish to use my great power now, but REALLY?!

I just saved the freaking world from a fiery death at the claws of a crazed fire spitting son of the time god, and I get NOTHING?

I mean my god, give me a sword or something. I'd even settle for a pat on the back, but nope, this is what the end of Skyrim comes to : Nothing.

Way to let me down, bethesda.

All he did was tell me that he was going to be the new dicctator of the dragons, then fly off.

He gives you praise. And then a dragon says he's your new best buddy and will come when you call. And the heroes of old say the same thing. But I'm sorry you didn't get your sword. :)

I agree. To be fair it is hard to make the WHOLE world act different towards you, but a little more would have been nice. It is basically nothing.

No one wants just a little priase from a dragon for SAVING THE WORLD. Is a feast in Whiterun or Solitude and a little recognition form guards really too much to ask?

The guards talk to you for something a simple as killing ONE hagraven in the companion quests. And yet they say nothing when you SAVE THE WORLD? A little common sense is all I ask on bethesda's part.

Well, seeing as there are still a whole bunch of dragons roaming the land, it is kind of hard to believe someone went to heaven and kicked the a** of a demigod. Are you sure you didn't ate any strange mushrooms before your "trip"?

You can give some people a gold mine and they'd still complain about being given "the shaft."

To be fair, the battle did take place in Sovngarde, the afterlife, so it's remarkable that anyone knows about it, aside from the dragons.

Not only do you not get a reward but you get trashed on the forums for being so ridiculous as to think a video game should give you a prize for killing the big bad guy!

They should!

In pokemon you get the master ball

In KH you get the master key

In that one FF game you get to know that the last 30 hours of your life were a waste of time because IT WAS ALL A DREAM

Give me something, bethesda : /

The problem with the main quest, as with many parts of the game, is that it does not deliver.

It starts out amazing, youre totally gripped by the urgency of events and then just sort of.. peters out.

I would gladly have waited one more year for Skyrim if the entire game had gotten the same attention as the first few hours of it have.
As it is now, it starts out engaging, interesting and full of wonder, and then just falls flat on its face.
Its what I call 'the Vilverin syndrome'. Where the first part of the game gets all the attention, because that is what the critics will see and base their reviews on. The rest of the game doesnt really seem that important to Bethesda.

Apparently you have to win the superbowl before Whiterun or Solitude will throw you a parade.

There's a move afoot in the Empire to help retired Dragonslayers to re-integrate with society though. There would be a training program for smith, companion, or possibly woodcutter. And if you're magically inclined there may be an opening for court wizard in one of the holds.

Would anyone else LOVE it if you could become the court wizard? Sent on amazing journeys on behalf of tyhe jarl through his hold territory? Or if you're not magically inclined, you could be his Housecarl...And there needs to be a random ((But low)) chance of a dragon attacking a hold capital, at which point you are notified and must defend it...Also, dragons need to not die in three seconds, the elder scroll needs to play a more major role in the game ((Since for gods sake it is THE NAME OF THE GAME))

And for the love of god..Give us something to work towards! Why would anyone play a game where the reward for the main story line is little more then a pat on the back?

I certainly hope all the games like this, but I was really disappointed when I got the ELDER SCROLL halfway through the main story line, used it for one boring thing that served little purpose, and then it just sits in my inventory forever taking up space and being useless.

Personally I would have found it far more epic if you discovered that Akatosh had assisted Alduin in his return, and after defeating Alduin, you had to capture Akatosh within the scroll and seal it away or something...Just a thought.

The name of the game is Skyrim. What comes to mind when I think of skyrim? Giant sky darkening dragons! But what do we get? Pansies. I'm really disappointed in the fact that I'm more afraid to fight a snow sabre then I am to fight a dragon. ((A snow sabre actually has a chance of killing me, a dragon...not so much))

Dragonrend was also a MASSIVE disappointment. It's described as this all-powerful shout that literally has the power to make a dragon feel mortal! And what does it do? They get some dark blue flames, fly around another minute and a half before EVENTUALLY landing. Not exactly the "Knocked from the sky" that it was supposed to be. When I use it, I want the dragon to be knocked on it's back and FALL FROM THE SKY. Not fly around for another half an hour and eventually land on the other side of a mountain.

I could open up a store selling weapons and armor the iikes of which have never been seen in the world  Might get a little boring though. Have you noticed how bored that guy in Whiterun (the smith's husband) looks, and the Jarls are always slumped over their chair, head tilted seeming to wish for a better job. Wait maybe I already have the best job in Skyrim! Freelance slayer of ... ummm... well pretty much everything (and I'm a good character).

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned how the very first part of the game is as good as it gets, and unfortunately, their right. Once you visit the greybeards for the first time, it kinda just dies. At one point I am thinking of in particular, the main story line quest becomes an OPTIONAL thing to do, by bringing the horn of jurgen back to the greybeards.

Not everything in the game is bad, just the main story line was disappointing at everything after that was pretty lack luster...But the armor, weapons, and graphics in general are leaps and bounds better then oblivion. ((Though I have to admit that standing halfway in the side of a hill while I'm climbing it is kinda stupid.."

That's an engine limitation. There are only certain places that dragons are capable of landing. They do land as quickly and as near to where you hit them as they can.

Look, I agree that the end of the main quest was underwhelming. In particular Delphine's reaction is underwhelming. But that's a side effect of the whole return of dragons being underwhelming. Why would common people throw you a parade? Most of them don't know you did anything. The dragons that are supposed to "eat the world" don't eat anything much - they ate a guard once - and displanted a handful of farmers. Now, if whole cities were falling into the sea and tsunamis were rising over Whiterun and threatening to turn Jorrvaskr into a ship again, THEN that would be something worth the name "Eater of Worlds."

I don't agree that some item of gear would be better than the two shouts you are given. The shouts were a smart reward. Anyone can use them. They get rid of the "I saved the world and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" feeling of the last two games, where your character is handed stuff that may or may not be appropriate to your skill list.
