No Spoliers! Dead Money hints for PC & PS3 players

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:46 am

In light of the heated posts about Dead Money for XBox that appeared here in December, it might be helpful to give new players a few non-spoilery hints about what to expect when they start to play next week.

Overall tip -- This DLC requires a moderately different approach than the vanilla game; do not expect to be able to play it as a shooter!

Please, no spoilers.

Tip # 1 -- Take time to READ. There is information essential to your survival that many XBox players missed because they were in a hurry to get running and shooting. These players died frequently and often.
I cannot stress this enough. When in dialogue with NPCs be sure to pay attention.

Next.

Edit -- *sigh* Yes, I know I spelled spoilers wrong.

Do not rush through the DLC. How much more can I stress that? By repeating it maybe... do not try to rush through this DLC!

Also, go back and look again at Al D's Tip #1.

It's hard really hard, and you should do it at high levels around level 20. Also make a seperate save that way you don't screw your file up because you made one mistake and something goes boom.

1. All holograms can be turned off one way or another, be patient and cautious and search for a way to turn them off.
2. Keep your eyes peeled and collect as many sierra madre chips as possible.
3. Listen to Elijah.
4. Listen to Elijah. :stare:
5. If you don't listen to Elijah then you only have yourself to blame.
6. If it's too hard for you the turn down the difficulty and turn off hardcoe Mode.
7. Don't rely on Holorifle too much.
8. Don't complain about the ____'s weight.
9. Take off everything and leave it at home when going to the bunker, you won't need it there anyway.

I'm on the PC, so I haven't played it yet, and I've already read about it on the Fallout wiki, but hopefully, this doesn't count as a spoiler

There are technically (You'll see) 4 different companions/perks, but you are still still limited to using one at a time. Three of them will help with various hazards you may encounter, while the last will save you a bit of trouble with some of the enemies. Pay attention to their perks
This hint partially inspired by someone who I saw complaining about some of said hazards, apparently without realizing that companions could help out with them

First Rule of Dead Money, you do not talk about Dead Money
Second Rule of Dead Money, you DO NOT TALK ABOUT DEAD MONEY
Third Rule of Dead Money, melee is a good skill to be high with
Fourth Rule of Dead Money, survival is a good skill to be high with
Fifth Rule of Dead Money, go in with no radiation, Rad-away's are scarce and your main source of food for a while will be iradiated
Sixth Rule of Dead Money, hardcoe mode is TOUGH and I mean TOUGH on Dead Money
Seventh Rule of Dead Money, there is a rich and complex story behind the Sierra Madre take some time to learn it!

PS3 Players: This is undoubtably going to happen:
#1 You will die in this DLC at least once. It's going to happen so don't whine about it.
#2 You will complain about this DLC. Xbox players did and so will you.
#3 You can make it through the DLC if you are not an idiot.
#4 You can take all the gold at the end if you do it right.
#5 Any choices you make in the DLC most likely don't affect future events in the next DLCs.

That is all. Good luck and don't whine too much!

Anybody who actually feels this way about Dead Money is going to be very sorely disappointed.

Eighth rule of Dead Money is, Dead Money is not Call of Duty.

Just finished the DLC and as someone else said save often,

BOS abandon bunker. get it so that you've discovered it and go back to novac and drop off your stuff in the room. that is if you done novac yet.

Also not all holograms can be turned off, (at least I couldn't disable some) save holorifle for later.

Check vending machines often. is that what they are called?

check all food and make sure it has low rads watch the effect area of pipboy make sure you don't have rad sickness. reduces specials

when playing make sure outside noise is minimal. The easier it is to hear things in game the better it will be. listen for the beep you will learn to hate the beep.

don't be afraid to take the direct route or the high road. hopefully you will understand what I mean when you start playing.

Don't be afraid to die, you will. possibly often .check everything and everywhere you can get to. Oh and watch your feet

Once you've gotten to the point of going into the sierra madre. Drop everything you think you won't need at the fountain. It will be there when you come back out. I did this and didn't need to go back inside. was overweight, but no biggie

Be prepared for Super Courier Bros.
You will run and jump.

There is value in cleaning out & exploring areas before you bring a companion in.

(I'm actually looking forward to these forums in a couple of weeks. Gonna be funny)

this is all stuff i do anyway. i am very thorough, observant and move slowly (so i dont miss any nice stuff), and always listen to what people say (unless ive already done so in the past).

just one question. will i be able to take at least one or two of all the new things (even the useless crap) without having to walk around with too many cucumbers? this is with a carry limit of 290 or 300

I've played through the DLC twice now and this is what I've learned.

- when you hear beeping, back up, save, then proceed
- some have said save the Holorifle for later, this is more personal preference I think, one play through I didn't really use it, the other I did and it can be amazing once you get the hang of it.
- KEEP AND EYE OUT FOR HOLODISKS
- watch out for gas cans, really. REALLY.
- for the love of all that is holly progress through all the conversations you can with companions
- explore EVERYTHING

Dead money can be done at a fairly low level. I dont personaly recomend it just because your constantly savespaming to do it but meh.

that said hardcoe is seriously hard with this expansion due to Irradiated food.

getting all of the good loot is fairly easy if you have a stealthboy and walk most of the way

Find the bunker, fast travel to novac or wherever your house is, drop your gear clean out your radcount then fasttravel back

You can return with whatever you want. There are handy containers that will ease the pain of over-encumbrance.
