Spongebob A Danger

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 1:26 am

It will rot their brains and not allow them to focus on tasks. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2011/09/12/watching-spongebob-can-lead-to-learning-problems/

"Parents should know that children who have just watched 'SpongeBob SquarePants,' or shows like it, might become compromised in their ability to learn and behave with self-control," according to psychology professor Angeline Lillard, who led the research.

Bravo foxnews bravo you just told us something that a majority of the world already knew. :shakehead:

Guess that's more money flushed down the toilet that could have been better spent on something else.

Nah, it's not so much the show as the parents who use the TV as a second babysitter. It's the same with any form of entertainment, if the parents just let their kid sit down all day in front of the TV without any form of interaction, of course the kid's going to turn out with a few problems.

Spongebob is just the scapegoat here because it happens to be a popular show, which is pretty typical of Fox News.

You know what also may harm children's ability to solve problems? Fox News.

I'd like to add that the test, at least in the way Fox News described it, is severely flawed. The children were only anolyzed immediately after watching the show. Of course they're going to be excited and unable to focus, they just watched a freakin' cartoon. Show me a test that anolyzes a child one week after watching a Spongebob episode, and we'll see how it affects them long-term, which would be much more telling of the "damage" it can cause.

Hell, I'm 21 years old and I can't focus on homework immediately after watching a television show. Does that mean I'm damaged?

Can homosixuality pierce these bubbles? Fox must look into this, the fate of society rests on their shoulders.

*shrug* If i'm bored out of my freakin skull i'll watch 2 min of spongebob then get bored even more watching infomercials.

I'll have to find the article, but apparently even nerf guns yes NERF GUNS are dangerous. They desensitize kids to the fear of guns and a group of dads held something at a pizza place. The dads believed their kids should learn to fear guns because they are dangerous. Kids gave up their nerf guns and received free pizza, book binders, and shirts.

Our society must be falling into the freaking toilet now instead of having that "chance" to fall in if they believe that crap.

If there's Spongebob on when I'm cooking or eating I'll watch it. I guess that explains my wretched soulless life.

HaHaHa That's Fox News for ya. I think Faux News and Infomercials are more of a threat to the youth of today than SpongeBob. Why don't they waste some more money and do a flawed study on them.

Its a cartoon kids are already hyper as hell a watching cartoon ain't going to make any difference. These studies are a dime a dozen anyway, its up to the parents to raise there children not the T.V. when i was a kid i spent every-bit of free time i had outside playing, walking in the woods, fishing and getting into all sorts of trouble.

My guess would be no, you just find homework either boring, bothersome, unecessary, or you're too lazy to do it, or you may feel that you genuinely master what you have received and find it pointless to do it, or a combination of these.

My 19 month old daughter loves Spongebob, and I don't mind it either.

I'll just let her keep watching it. I don't give a rats [censored] what some idiot doctor seems to think is bad for her.

Glad to see you feel that way i'm really ticked at all of these parents that don't have a brain cell to decide how to raise their kids anymore. They seem to go into one of two groups as of late being Religious followers of books or parents that don't give a [censored]. Ones that anger me the most are the ones that don't give a [censored] and when their kid does something bad they demand compensation saying the world "screwed up" their kid. Listen moron you caused your kid to be screwed up by not watching them and participating in their lives.

I'm with ya. It burns me up when my wife and I go out and we see other kids running around without their parents. And when I say little kids I mean my daughter's age. We watch her like hawks.

We're not helicopter parents, we let her do her own thing but we are real close by and one of us, always has an eye on her. She loves Spongebob, iCarly and Victorious as well as Thundercats, Jem, My Little Pony, she likes watching Star Wars, Little Einsteins, Your Baby Can Read, and a slew of other shows.

Yep. We have a responsibility to raise our children so they grow up to be decent advlts, but there's a line. They are not just potential advlts, they are actually children. And maybe Fox should air this : Breaking News! Children actually enjoy watching cartoons. I'm gonna have to quote Frank Zappa, "Whatever happened to all the fun in the world?" Apparently it should be replaced with 'getting high scores in attention based tasks'. Nah.

I'm inclined to agree. The newer episodes are terrible, I wouldn't recommend watching them either.
