Sprint Jump.

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 11:45 am

This isn't a complaining thread, of course. Anyways, when playing and sprinting around, I can't help but feel like jumping while sprinting. But, of course, nothing happens. I just feel broken and like I should be able to jump. I haven't got around to doing a thief/assassin character, but it seems like it would add to that role to be able to move around faster like that. Maybe even have a nifty animation that makes you feel agile.

I'm sure this has come up before, but I'm just wondering if anyone else feels this way. Maybe there's some other function in the game you feel is missing? Oh boy, well, maybe that's not a good idea.

Oh I couldn't agree more. Is the mechanics really that hard to pull off. Sometimes you find yourself in a situation where you have to make one hell of a jump and sprinting while jumping would really come in handy. I for one, have not mastered the sprint THEN jump technique that we've been pigeon-holed into using.

Yeah. I know it's not much of a platformer, but there are some instances where it's needed. I guess Whirlwind Sprint makes up for that, but I'd much rather have a sprint jump get me to some spots. I just like the idea of natural movement in that case. They could have implemented it easily. Question is, why not?

Perhaps because then you would feel playing Assassin's Creed than Elder Scrolls? I know that Windsprint is not an excuse as you need to do a few quests in MQ line to get 'em, but it's a... 'workaround" for whenever you need to sprint+jump (for that extra range, I assume?)

I forgot that Assassin's Creed is the only other game franchise that has sprint + jump.

Super Mario Brothers had a sprint-jump. An 8-bit game had the technological prowress to pull it off almost 25 years ago.

Or maybe if we ask them nicely they'll unlock the secrets of the Sprint-jump. How does a fat Italian plumber pull of a sprint-jump when my Nordic Barbarian who thrives in battle hesitates once she reaches the edge of the cliff.

See, it's a secret and lost ancient art that we must uncover by searching hours upon hours for a tiny little pamphlet in the mountains. It will start a quest chain that lasts 20 hours long, no matter how fast you do it. Then, and only then, we will find out how to sprint jump like Ezio in the Assassins Creed Franchise. See, but that's not where it ends. You can't just learn it. You have to get a mod or pay 1200 microsoft points for it in order to fully get it.

If we are going to request Sprint Jump back, I will also add the request to have Crouch Jump back.

Maybe even have an add-on for 3 dollars that gives you the original magnum from Halo: Combat Evolved.

(I'm going to stop with the DLC jokes now lol)

i agree although you can just use whirlwind sprint at rank 3 its amazeing done so many huge jumps with that its great coz reminds me of being a vamp in morrowind with 175 acrobatics could clear so much distance with a running jump i would love height but can live without it still miss acrobatics :(

Yeah. I mean, it's not that I don't like Whirlwind Sprint, I'd rather not shout for everyone to hear me, and have a natural jump. I've always like the feel of sprinting and then jumping in games, so I guess it's habit to wanna jump while running. I hate the jumping for Werewolves, too. You'd think they could jump higher, but their jumps are lower than humanoids. lol

Ya but they totally make up for it with their sprint. The werewolf sprint is one of the coolest things about them.

Yeah, the sprint is pretty nice and the animation is good. One thing I also like doing is sprint power attacks. We may not have sprint jumping, but we have sprint attacks, and they look pretty stellar in 3rd person. I've tried doing them off ledges before.. It doesn't hold up too well. Oh ho!

Werewolves definitely need a jump buff.

I'd personally like to see Acrobatics make a return; except I'd want the combat dodge back and perhaps a vaulting animation to clear walls/fences instead of jumping 10ft straight up in the air - San Andreas even had that, you could climb and vault fences and walls.

I'd like to see sprint/jump myself, it seems a bit off that it's absent.

Honestly, movement in general should be more fluid. It's a lame sort of brainbug that Bethesda has that a lot (or all) or their open-world games tend to have mazes all over the place; either because of invisible walls in some places, or the fact that your character apparently took an arrow in both knees and became an invalid. I can't begin to describe the number of times I've come across a rock face or something that completely blocks movement while remembering the times I climbed over obstacles of the same kind except twice the height... at the tender age of 6.

Oh good, 'cause they aren't funny :whistling:

Jumping while sprinting...I'm a pretty reasonable guy. I fail to see how the game ends up being unbalanced, or skewed or broken, or has any downside by letting me sprint and jump. frankly it's a baffling omission, similar to not being able to Shout while jumping.

First thing I missed. It does not make sense. Sometimes Skyrim feels like the people who made did not know the nuts and bolts of the previous games.
