Staff Crafting- Who Wants it?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 2:45 pm

Yeah, okay, everyone is saying that there should be spears or other stuff, but am I the only one who wants to be able to make and enchant their own magical staff?

It would be cool - not just in terms of what spells can be applied but also the variety in the way you want it to look; for example gold and silver ingots for the handle and carved refined moonstone or quicksilver as the "orb" bit at the tip that holds the magic - perhaps even use flawless gems or amethyst to be able to change the color you want it to be.

In terms of progress it should have its own perk tree or somewhat be incorporated into enchanting. They should not base it on the "warrior" smithing perk otherwise mage's would have trouble leveling.

Additional note: The amount of use one can have out of the staff should not only be based in the school of magic used but... if it is crafted then the crafted staff should scale with the users enchanting level in combination with the school of magic, as sort of a bonus for taking the time and creativity to make it your own.

I want to craft a staff yes.

Not a damned magical rocket launcher though, a long staff that I can use as a staff. I miss my big blunt staff from Morrowind so badly.

While the game doesn't provide this customized feature, you can make staffs, but they are like the existing ones. There is the special forge to do so.

However, making one to a visual custom and multiple effects, would be interesting for sure. Especially if they are actually equipped on the player. I also like the idea of the staff leveling with the player and maybe changing in appearance, either by added enchantments or physical add-ons at a crafting station.

Then we have an added option to use it like a spear or pole arm in close combat.

This can be easily added via the Creation kit. In fact I believe there are already several mods out there for it.

I take it you're referring to the Atronach Forge at the College of Winterhold? If so, you've been rather badly misinformed: that forge only produces three conjuration staves, one for each atronach (flame, ice, and storm). It produces no other staves from the conjuration school, nor any staves from the destruction, illusion, restoration or alteration schools.

I've seen this rumor repeated in most every thread suggesting Beth add staff enchanting to the game; not sure why it won't die....

Would be perfect for a Monk type character, which would also go perfectly with the Dovahkiin following the Greybeards' teachings.

I think it would be great if we could craft it from beginning to end, make the staff 100% ourselves and then enchant it. use ingots to make it. just imagine, an ebony or a glass staff...

That is the one and the staves I was talking about. Seeing how I gave no specifics on what staves could be produced, but thank you for stating what is clearly noted in detail at the USEP.

This would be so cool. Maybe if you used more expensive materials, like a flawless saphire instead of an amethyst or silver ingots instead of iron ones, it could hold larger enchantments.

i agree this would be a good addition...and a possible alternative to them bringing back spell-making

maybe as a new branch of enchanting? sort of the same type of skill tree as for smithing, but branching off of enchanting instead

Daedrice Staff of Imolation or a Dragonbone Staff of Lightning Storm! :whoops:
Put a skill or perk requirement on the dang things, make them two handed and able to block and i will be a happy mage indeed. :woot:

no but some people do, myself excluded (im on 360), and he was simply stating this for those that chose that platform to play on, in case they were not already aware of such mods.

i was thinking more along the lines of what they did with bows, where you can use it as a melee weapon quarterstaff style if enemies get too close, and give yourself time to gain some space

This would lead me to use more than simply staff of paralysis. a dragonbone staff or daedric staff would be absolutely epic!

My staff would be wood, with reinforced with silver and it would have Daedra hearts in it and the Orb at the end would be a flawless diamond with a bright glow entwined around ebony to hold it on.
It would be a staff of Alteration. It's spell would be the equivalent of FUS RO DAH.
If I could have that...
