I don't plan on it. There is NO GAME worth installing that virus onto my computer.

I think your just being a bit biased and a bit of a scardy cat.
Steam is fine.
One little hack don't worry me at all.
Get some decent anti-virus maybe, like AVG. Because Norton is a piece of crap.

I don't use the steam forums, first I hear of it is on here now. No email nothing! I'll have to cancel my card now but would I have even known to if I never read this thread?

This happened literally 1 hour ago if Valve will e-mail us I hope it would be after they have more solid details.

It's not a lapse. The fact is that there is no known online database security capable of stopping a hacker. All these programs can be compromised because that is the nature of programming.

The best you can do is stay ahead of the hackers and constantly change settings and passwords. And even then it'll never be secure.

1. All the data stolen was encrypted...decent encryption isn't terribly easy to decrypt, especially if it's one-way (like passwords)
2. Never have an online vendor store your credit card info in the first place
3. There's no evidence that accounts were compromised
4. Stop making new threads about this, please. There are enough already.
5. Change your Steam password and you should be fine. :shrug:

... This is a misleading statement. It's possible to keep a strong enough security system to shut hackers down before they can do damage. Several companies do so. Others use the "THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!" as an excuse for poor security practice.
