Steam Reply about Aussie Steam Unlock!

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 3:51 am

It's not just the Aussies. It's half the world. Not that that helps.

It's sort of like having wood and a fireplace but nothing to light it with.

Yeah you know what i mean though.

I find myself picking up the console version of games more and more these days ... it's probably situations like that encouraging me to do so (that and I like my big HDTV over my tiny monitor).

I was pretty mad but now I'm just figuring that this is a doom of my own making. I got so worked up before realizing ... hell, I can't even really play until this weekend anyway. I got to work.

Either way, I'm happy to see the moderators calming down the angry herds - that's always a panacea for the nerd rage.

And think of it this way, guys:

You'll save a crap-ton of money this weekend because you won't be out drinking, you'll be locked away shooting things in the head and trying on different hats in the Mojave.

The silly thing is that Steam is not a threat to the stores who sell the boxes.

Not everyone has the connection to download the game files so they buy it on DVD. Or they just want a box or a CE. Or they just don't trust digital downloads. Or any number of reasons.

And we even have to wait 10-11 hours before the GMT unlock time. And the NZ'ers have it even worse.

ok, quick question, I'm an american living in northern china, i purchased through STEAM, my ticker was set for California time, the night it was supposed to be released my ticker goes apes@%t and then sets for the aus and uk timeframe, im a bit worried that since it wasnt adjusted the first time, when the game gets released friday will my ticker go apes@%T and set for JAPANs ridiculous release date :banghead: due to me being in internet restricted china? I am a bit bothered by the "ha ha fooled you tickers " does anyone know?

You'll be able to pick up your copy and intall the game. But whatever you try mate, Steam won't let you activate it until 11:00 Friday Melbourne/Sydney Time.

On Channel 9 there was a commercial for New Vegas saying the game is available on Oct 21st. This commercial was not made by a specific retailer. It is being falsely advertised on the largest channel in Australia when the date of release is the next day!!

Glad i'm not a forum moderator here. I image there will be a few angry and confused people running around on thursday.

Certainly EB and the like are glad to give you a copy on Thursday, not sure how forthcoming they've been about the day gap till you can play it though.

I think they need to tell steam to release it tomorrow. If retailers have it and are selling it, the argument that they do not wish to disadvantage retailers is wrong and more likely cause retailers angst with angry customers. The ad released did not seem to be through any retailer in specific and likely made by Bethesda itself ? maybe?

Both the EB Games and Game have said that the PC Verson would be released on the 21st here for the last few months. Then they have a add on Channel 9 tonight in the middle of the new Big bang that also shows the PC version with a date of the 21st. So I can see alot of people not knowing about this and coming here tomorrow

thats the commercial I saw and commented on - how good was Big Bang BTW. I don't think the commercial was made by any specific retailer though.

since when is the word re tar ded a bad word?

Just so you know in case you don't that word is actually really hurtfull, it demeans all the children or even advlts with the disability. Ever have any kids with disabilities? My guess is no, or you wouldn't throw out that word so easily.

So easy to offend, so hard to applogize. For me, it's a word I do not want to see anymore. Too many people use it so easily it is very hurtfull.

I just checked the add again (Got to love Tivo) and it has logos for EB, JBHiFi, Game and Big W so I would say it's most likly made by the Australian publisher for the game (Or something along those lines)

Edit: If http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/29/namco-bandai-to-spread-fallout-new-vegas-across-australia-euro/ is right it's Namco Bandi who would of most likly made the add

I would wait and see what happens tomorrow the other thing about the add is that it had very small writing on the bottem of the screen that was far to small to make out on my TV (And I think alot of others) so it might of said something about it in that area.
You never know we might still have it unlock tomorrow at which point you have no reason to call channel 9

Small print that cant be seen on a 42" screen does not count. A big 21 does. Anyway rang channel 9 and some tired lady is the only one in the studio taking calls and couldn't do much - said wait till the am.

If you look at http://www.namcobandaipartners.com.au/games/overview.do?id=1956 it looks like Namco Bandai are releasing Fallout here and if how they handled Star Trek Online is anything to go bye then I would think that they have just put down the wrong date and not even bother finding out about steam needing to unlock the game at a set time or that you needed to use steam at all.

http://fallout.gamesas.com/eng/home/pr-101810.php

notice the release date for AU down the bottom. Its past midnight and its not unlocked.

I'll check in the morning and if not after work where there will proberbly be a few posts from more angry customers with disk copys and cant play for a day.

BUT they where able to get the american unlock time changed for midnight PST, so hopefully someone here can set steam straight and get our game unlocked.

Steam is still reporting that it gets unlocked on the 22/10/2010. And the countdown is 1 Day 11 Hours.

So it is probably counting down to 12am GMT which is 11 hours behind Australia.

What a total crock up.

Any one knows when will they release the game in Asia?? I can't even wait for one day to play the game. The game preloaded fully and some ugly people refuse to launch the game?? This is ridicules; We live in one world and anyone sneeze in the west we are going to say bless you at east. So when you release the game in US and THINK that nobody around the Glob will know; you think blind! This is not a hardware that you are limited in number of production and so you have different launch date in each market; this is software and it can be work by installing it at PC or insert the DVD or by whatever means; When are you going to change this mentality Bethesda & Steam or Who ever still believe on that??!

Guys Warn me next time not to preload any Steam game please; because they are svck!

It's not Steam's fault. It's Bethesda's. It's crap they put it as NA Oct. 19th, rest of the world Oct. 22nd. The retail argument doesn't hold up because games don't get released here on Fridays. Most non-triumphant.
