Fix didn't work for me either, but then it doesn't seem to be sticking. I deleted the 22380 userdata folder and then edited both Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini to have bUseThreadedAI=1 and iNumHWThreads=2, tried starting the game and got the same crash. When I went back to check the 22380 folder was back again and both ini files were back to their original settings and values.

Well that time I got the ini changes to stick by also editing the Fallout_default.ini in the actual Steam/steamapps/common/fallout new vegas folder but I'm still crashing at the same place.

I had the same issue with New Vegas last night and I fixed it the same way I had to fix Fallout 3. All i had to do last night to get it to work is put the d3d9.dll into the Fallout NV folder.

Heres a link to the video that helped me fix Fallout 3:

Unfortunately, that isn't working for some of us. If I do that, the game won't even launch until I remove the d3d9.dll file again. I also tried the iNumHWThreads=2 fix (and made sure it "sticks"), and no luck. Nor with running the launcher and/or game executable in compatibility mode for Vista SP2 or XP SP3.

Grr. It's been a long time since I've installed a game that simply wouldn't run at all.

I did all the fixes also and no luck, my specs are well above the minimum for the game... this is what I get listening to my friends telling me to get the PC version instead of the xbox one.

Seriously though, don't they test these games before they come out? Like on more than 1 computer?

Figures. I posted the fix on the last post of page 1 after I got it working and went out for a bit. When I came back, the game stopped working for me again. Is this a Steam Cloud issue?

I ahave very little doubt that this is a steam issue. I had tried the threads fix earlier since it fixed fallout 3 for me, but no luck for NV. Have tried everything I can think of and everything I have read. Still nothing. Have tried on both my GTX 280 and Radeon 5770 and both do the same thing.

Also buying a hard copy doesn't fix it. I have the hard copy and it still uses steam. It seems wrong they don't mention anything to anyone. Even just a simply stickied forum post saying they are working on the problem, but no. It seems rare to find a game where the Devs actually give a crap after the game goes gold.

I wanted to love this and was ready to commit a bunch of hours to it today. So far all I have gotten to do is sit around and stare at facebook instead.

I am trying one more fix and will report back if it works, if not then it's worthless to even post what it is.

We will just see. So frustrating. Been waiting for this game for a long time.

This isn't a steam issue. I've got Win7 running on a 1yr-old MacBook Pro and get no joy from the load screen (roulette wheel for about 3 sec and then crash). This machine has never had a problem running any other Steam game.

However, my Steam install is on a portable drive, and when I hooked it up to my old Windows XP machine it started up no problem (same original install that woudn't work on the MacBook). Back on the MacBook, and again no joy. So, it appears this is def. on Bethesda/Obsidian to resolve.

FWIW, after around 5 hours on the WinXP box, it has started going into full lock (i.e. hard reboot to bring the machine back).

Well, I no longer think it's a steam issue but an issue with the actual game itself.

I got the game to run without steam. Steam completely shut down. I still get the crash after the cinematic. So I don't believe it's steam that is causing the issue. So I think it's on Bethesda/Obsidian to get in gear and get this fixed.
