Done everything I could think of.
Double checked for audio/video/windows updates
Validated files a dozen times, fails to download anything upon: "1 File failed to validate and will be reacquired"
Deleted the .exes and reran validator
Ran in compatability mode
Restarted OS and Steam
Backed up and reinstalled
Disabled Steamcloud and Overlay
Fiddled with the video settings
Combed Bethesda and Steam Forums for any possible fixes.

All I can think of is for either Steam to fix the problem, or try find a save game file that's past the beginning.

Unless anyone has a fix or more suggestions.

In the same boat, would welcome any find of functional solution.

Atleast you got to play it before you got hosed.

Only the opening cinematic, not the game.

Still farther than me though, I'm stuck waiting on tickets cause steam won't let me authenticate...

It plays the intro cinematic (War never changes...) Then crashes after the screen is done loading. So no I was teased into thinking I would be able to play.

I'm having the exact same problem. It crashes right after the cinematic. It's a very frustrating place to crash at heh. I'd really appreciate a fix for this.

Mine gives me "FalloutNV has stopped working" and crashes when I try to start the game. I have redownloaded the entire game, checked data integrity, double checked graphics drivers are up to date, etc...

Yep, same deal. Frustrating situation (and I don't mean the tool from Jersey Shore).

I'm having the exact same problem, the game crashes immediately after opening movie. This is beyond frustrating.

Additionally, after initial boot the game automatically defaulted to Ultra-High settings. I have since fidgeted with all graphical settings and nothing works.

I'm waiting for my ticket for a refund from steam. Wal-Mart next door has a truckload of them and if they can't get it working, a boxed copy it is. Mind you, there was a guy on here with the collector's edition that had NO CD in the case when he got it home, so I'm not sure if it's going to solve my issues.

If it's installation issues that might work, but I'm pretty sure you still need steam to play the game.

My game doesn't even make it to the opening cinematic...it gets to the Bethesda screen and that's it...crashes...FalloutNV has stopped working and all that...

I hope a patch comes along quickly or Steam will be handing out a lot of refunds.

Mine crashes right when the opening cinematic starts. I just see a moon then I get FalloutNV has stopped working. Very frustrating.

I do have windows 64bit btw.

Another question to those who are having this problem: did you pre-load the game yesterday (monday the 18th)? There was another topic where everyone had the problem and they all preloaded on the same day. Maybe that's it?

I've tried to verify the local content time after time it says there is one file the failed to verify, it will download the file, then when I verify again, the same file fails to verify...over and over.

I even deleted the whole download and re-downloaded the entire game overnight and I'm getting the exact same problem this morning. This is extremely frustrating.

Same here. it crashes after the cinematic. Windows 7 home edition 64 bit, toshiba satelite p500, nvidia 330M. Latest video drivers through toshiba site. downloaded on oct 18th.

Same issue. I can't even get past the copyright screen before Fallout NV needs to close.

I have the same problem. I open the game and get to the opening menu where the 'Options', 'Data Files', Tech Support' etc is listed, hit the 'Play' icon and I get Fallout NV is not working. I have a disc and have re-installed numerous times with the same result. I assume since we see no offered correction we are all screwed for the time being. Sometimes life svcks. For what it's worth here are my computer stats, if anyone from Steam or Bethesda is bothering to look...

This is a problem dating back to Fallout 3, which still hasn't been fixed. First of all, you need to remove any steam userdata for this game, as it will constantly reset your .ini. Go into the Steam folder -> userdata, and delete the New Vegas folder, which is 22380. Then go into Documents -> My Games -> New Vegas and find Fallout.ini. Look for a line which says bUseThreadedAI=0 in the [General] section. Change it to bUseThreadedAI=1 and add a line under that which says iNumHWThreads=2

I had the crash after cinematic problem too, and after a couple hours of searching for the problem (I couldn't get the .ini to save because the steam userdata folder kept overriding what I input), it was resolved by sheer luck when someone in IRC made a completely unrelated comment about the userdata folder.

TRY THIS:

Proably related to the iNumHWThreads command.

Add this line in the GENERAL settings of your INI file (if its not already there) (and make sure to add it in the correct ini file, according to people on the forums it is located in some steam folder):

iNumHWThreads=2

See if this fixes it and let me know please. It's possible just like Fallout 3 the game doesn't like quad-core on some sytems, and the above command forces the game to run on 2 cores. It fixed launch crashes for me in Fallout 3 that sound exactly like you all are having for New Vegas

Did you edit the right INI file? Go back to that file and see if the change you made to the file stuck...is still there, as I am told that if you don't make the change in the right INI the change will just be rewritten over by the one you were supposed to edit.

Otherwise, sry I couldn't help :-/
