Paarthurnax goodbye friend . How could anyone kill him?

I didn't have the heart to do it, even on the character I tried to play as amoral/evil just to do the TG and DB questlines. Still couldn't pull the trigger on the old boy, I mean, he's the only "person" in Skyrim who looks at me and truly sees the dragon within and treats me accordingly. Except maybe for Odahviing and some of my other dragon "kin" after the MQ is over, altho there's no real indication of that because you don't interact with them much or at all (unless they're hostile, in which case you're just fighting them).

And he's the only main player in the MQ who really doesn't seem to make any demands on my character. With everybody else it's go here, fetch that, prove you're worthy, prove we can trust you, we want this done and can't be arsed to do it ourselves so go take care of it. With Paarthurnax it's basically, okay, if you're gonna deal with Alduin, here's what I think you'll need and why. If you said "screw it, let him eat the world, I'm done" he'd probably just tilt his head and say "is that so?" and offer you some tea.

Yea in a way Paarthurnax was your only true friend in the entire MQ. Everyone else kinda just bossed you around or were just using you for their own gains.

There's that moment when you first meet him when he says something like, "I know you didn't come all the way up here just to chat with an old dragon." I didn't really notice it the first time through, but now it makes me so sad. He's been living in seclusion up there for... what, centuries? Millennia? He's a pariah among his own kind, and even if he weren't there haven't been any around for him to interact with anyway. He's limited to contact with the Greybeards and while they certainly love and revere him, they are 100% human and don't share in his "dragonness."

How long do you think it's been since he was able to engage in "tinvaak" with anyone that even approached being something close to kin? I know dragons are probably solitary creatures by nature, but still. It just breaks my heart now to hear him say that. FINALLY someone whose soul is made of the same stuff as his shows up, and it's only cuz they want something. But he's still cool with it.

I would glady go back and engage in as much tinvaak as possible, and I frequently go back there anyway even if there's no additional conversation left to be had. He must get so lonely.

The journey for that is fun but if the MQ is anticlimactic then the "ending" of the DP mask quest need its own definition. Actually, I don't know if it's an official quest or not as much as it just something to do. At any rate, they really could have done something more with that. Something like a huge final battle with the most badass DP known to Skyrim. But instead you visit a fixed up room with nothing else in it.

It's kind of like, "Yeah, I guess this place is kind of okay... But why did I have to travel back in time just to see something a general contractor in the present could have done a lot more easily?"

Wait have you fought Alduin twice? Because if you've just fought him once you aren't done with the main quest

I actually regret not killing him with my last build because I think it would have been in character for him (he would've trusted the Blades implicitly). But I let me feelings for the ol' dragon persuade me otherwise... just couldn't do it.

None of my characters will never ever kill Paarthy. I love dragons, there's ONE friendly dragon in the game (ok, Odahviing becomes friendly as well, but not really in the same way), no way I'm going to kill him.

I really didn't mind Delphine or Esbern until they demanded that of me.

Lol one of my early "objections" to trying Skyrim was the perception on my part that it was all about killing dragons.

Hello, born in the year of the dragon here, been collecting dragon stuff almost all my life, have a dragon somewhere in every room of my home for luck, love love LOVE dragons. Not really interested in killing them "just because."

Then a friend told me about the "dragonborn" thing and how there are actually dragons you don't kill and they become your friends and that was part of what changed my mind.

But even if I didn't love dragons, I would love Paarthy.

If parthunax is so good then why does odaviing mention that now that alduins lordship is over, many dragons will be reluctant to follow the tyranny of parthunax? Tyranny is not a word to describe a good leader. I suspect we traded one alduin for another...he is his brother after all and 2nd born, maybe the bad seed doesnt fall far from the tree?

If you kill parthunax (slaughtered it I know) you should get a quest to bring a few followers you choose that will change into dragon hunters. They should then send you to hunt dragons. Note that this means you can no longer receive word wall locations from the greybeards Source-skyrim wiki

I don't think dragons have any other word to describe a leader, lol, authoritarianism is kinda built into their mindset.

At any rate what he is referring to is P's stated intent to try and convince other dragons to follow him in living by the Way of the Voice, in which case they would be giving up their natural instincts to dominate and destroy and would have to coexist peacefully with the rest of the world instead. That's what O. means by "the tyranny of Paarthurnax" - P. is in the top spot now, but some dragons will see his insistence on following the Way as "tyranny" because it goes against their nature and they won't want to accept the restrictions and disciplines it imposes. As a result they may be reluctant or refuse to accept him as their leader.

When delphine asked me to kill paarthunax, i turned around, walked away and never returned. i mean dragons are always depicted as evil creatures and paarthunax is on of the more friendly characters in the game. Most people only care about the war. He cares about saving the world.

As for delphine earlier in the MQ she gets snooty with me so i answered with the I dont have to listen to this reply..to which she replied "you'll be back, you HAVE to" damn it she's right, i had to make nice with her to continue the MQ which almost made me not want to continue

Keep calm and kill the dragon.
