Stuttering after pacth 1.4 Merged Similar Topics

Hi . Is there any new mods out somewhere like oblivion, fallout stutter remover, because after patch 1.4 boosted my frames rates 64Hz bug kicked to almost unplayeble gaming experience . Before patch it was less noticeble because FPS were jumping 30-60-30 but now with constant 60fps the game is unplayeble ,skipping frames every second, every time when turning camera. In caves ,buildings it's even worse. Like many who have this problem(probably every human who can run this game at 60fps) i've tried to limit fps ,but then new problems came out like arrows flying 2-5s after shot. So i know that Bethesda don't care this problem because consoles runs all their games at 30fps but maybe some good modders already realeased something to fix this mess ? I know that there is D3D antilag v1.01 which makes all screen tearing so i don't think that this is a fix and Skyrim sbw which for me reduces performance.

What's the best frame limit for this game then? I know you could set a framelimiter to 59. Would that do it, you think?

Post your specs

I just this moment sorted all my problems out using these:

SkyrimPrefs.ini
[Particles]
iMaxDesired=500 (or lower, 250 works well too. Only effects certain particles!)

Add to Skyrim.ini
[LightingShader]
fSpecularLODFadeEnd=0.0
fSpecularLODFadeStart=0.0 (In my testing if these are not 0.0 then you get a performance hit)

If you have a Nvidia card use the limiter in the new beta drivers.

Take off any large scale texture mods, alot of them are overkill or incorrectly made. (This was the last time I ever had heavy stutter, using duff tex mods)

If you are loading an old save, ie pre 1.4 - save the game and load from that before you do any testing.

Turn off any trssaa, and your shadows should be on high or lower.

for now I'm using Dxtory and capping at 58fps because if limiting to 59 sometimes fps jumps to 60 and then game stutters again. even though if textures pops up,arrows flies to late it's better than this huge ,huge stuttering at least for me .

i'm not using any mods, this is not the case . i can use lowest or highest settings game stutters either way ,this is not may PC fault it is game engine itself makes stuttering . i'm run this game after patch 99% at 60 fps ,stuttering appears not because my PC can't handle it ,but because it can . this engine itself hates 60 fps . running at lower frames problem disappears .

Well for me I personally cap my framerate to the lowest fps I see in game. Which would be 45 so I cap at 40. If I uncap my game I get what I can only describe as mouse lag even though Im using a controler. So not so much a stutter for me but input lag. *shrugs* different hardware different results.

i'm using controller too and stuttering is more noticible than with mouse ,because camera turns more slowly with a gamepad. also thanks to B1gBadDaddy i've notice that i'm only get stuttering when i'm in first person ,strange .

Do you by chance have an hd6870 1gb?

Because I do and I kinda want to know what could be causing the problem since a fair few people don't have this problem...

Do you have dxtory open and displaying your fps?

And did you try the simple borderless windows mod correctly? That definitely stops the stutter.

i've tried simple borderless it makes stuttering disappear completely but reduces my fps in some areas ,about dxtory-i opened ,set at 60fps and unchecked Limit Video fps,but didn't disabled fps monitoring on screen ,do i need to disable it?

update -tried to disable fps monitoring -same thing . my testing spot is in Jorrvaskr few stairs down near door to basemant

The way you did it was right mate, which means your stutter might be caused by something else.

Have you tried deleting your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini?

Also are you testing with a save that was saved in 1.4 patch, or a save from a previous game version?

Have you tried deleting your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini? :yes i reinstalled the whole game for the new patch with fresh INI and SkyrimPrefs.ini

Also are you testing with a save that was saved in 1.4 patch, or a save from a previous game version?:my save is from previous version ,i will try a new game and post my results but i doubt that this is the problem .

update :like i thought, starting new game didn't solve stuttering

Yes I have hd6870 1gb

Hmmm... now that makes me suspicious....

@B1gBadDaddy, did you ever get any stuttering?

If so then it might be an issue with this card, or at least the amd drivers causing conflicts somewhere. :/

Can someone explain the 64Hz bug and where this discussion originated? How do you suffer from the 64HZ bug, when does it occur? How come I don't have it? Do I have it but just not realise???

lol, Explain!! I'm confused!

well I'm experience some lag in games when CPU+GPU can't handle some situations ,but not stuttering like in every Bethesdas game when FPS is High and frames are skipped . I think there was only Dirt3 (only one on one matches vs AI)which is weird ,Battlefield Bad Company 2(before patch) and FarCry2 when i really had Stuttering ,but with those games almost everyone had problems. I don't think that this is a bad card it's mostly something wrong with game engines(bad optimizations, ports from console etc)and mostly I'm getting lag which is overall PC bottleneck .Skyrim is the stuttering king so far for my card .

I get stuttering in certain interiors (not consistent!) and I'm using an nVidia 460 card, if that helps.

I got Skyrim a couple days ago and suffered this horrible stuttering on my 6950. FPS stayed at 60 but the stutter was insane. Windowed Mode ended up fixing it. I've had other games that suffered similar stuttering but not as bad, I never had this with Nvidia but my 5770 from a while ago and 6950 have had weird stutters in games that don't seem linked to FPS.

I think it's an ATI thing.

I just wanna say I gave your guide a go, it definitely helped but my experience is still smoother in windowed mode.

I'm glad it helped MrSean.

I get stutter also but only in certain places, and looking at certain things, I get the same thing fallout nv suffered from before the stutter remover mod.

Ah interesting, I bought F:NV not too long ago and had the stutter there too. I'll look into that mod!

Do you know what that mod did? Perhaps we could use it in Skyrim too?

i think i found a solution at least for myself and maybe for others until somebody will fix this ,if .. i think there already been similar solutions but instead of using D3D antilag v1.01 which uses d3d9.dll and leaving without option to use fxaa injector which also uses same dll for render ahead frames i'm using RadeonPro

1) I've set my resolution to 1920x1080 to match the in game resolution, set refresh rate to 50Hz in Amd catalyst( it's very important because some people will have frame drop like me using Simple Borderless Window with 60Hz=60fps,so better make 50Hz to get smooth 50fps)

2)download RadeonPro and make a profile for Skyrim in there make sure to set flip queue size 2 , in other words put slider in the middle and check the box

3)download Simple Borderless Window from http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4 and activate

4)Play

I don't know how this will work for other people but now if my game fps doesn't dips below 50fps my game is so smooth, smoother then capping 58fps or 59fps . but if it dips below 50fps some stuttering appears . but overall playable now

Perfect before the patch, now horrible unplayable stuttering. 3rd person view is not that bad though, which is weird. Overall quality and fps are much improved since the patch. Settings set everything to high, forced AF 16x through CCC, 2x AA in game settings. 1920-1080 res. 60hz. No ini changes, did not mess with vsync. I use a game-pad and changing the sensitivity alters the stuttering a little. I tried using the mouse, no change though. Any idea if mouse accell settings could have an impact? I heard there was a fix for this with Oblivion in a script extender, it would be great if someone with SKSE was working on a fix for this too. Because right now it is gamebreaking.
