As a Las Vegas local, everything in the game you see, pretty much does exist in kind of the same areas. (in scale, of course)

Yea i had a feeling that buffalo bill's was primm. Ive been to buffalo bill's and wen i saw the coaster in primm, it totally reminded me of it.

Yes that is what I meant. There is a real resort and casino called "Primm Valley Resort And Casino" which has the car Bonnie and Clyde died in along with their clothes. I was saying that the Vikki And Vance casino is IRL because of this.

Adding to that, the "Freeside" sign is actually the defaced sign for Freemont St. which does exist (it's where all the downtown casinos are)
The Silver Rush in freeside is probably the Golden Nugget, a casino located on Freemont St.
The Atomic Wrangler doesn't appear to match any casino directly. Binion's is across the street from Golden Nugget in real life.


And many of the casinos in The Strip are based on real ones or an amalgamation of real ones.

The spade-shaped sign for Gomorrah resembles that of the Sahara (now demolished) but the fire motif outside is reminiscent of the volcano in front of Mirage.

The Tops' might be based on Circus Circus with the front entrance the way it is and given its location on the strip (plus "big top" is slang for a circus tent) but given that it's home of the Rad Pack, it clearly draws inspiration from The Sands (also now demolished) as well.

Ultra-lux seems to copy the design of Bellagio (the giant curved building, fountain in front), though the fountain is drastically scaled down. The baths inside and the design of some of the interior area are references to Ceasar's Palace. Naturally calling anything in New Vegas "Ceasar's" anything would be very politically unpopular with the locals...

The Lucky 38 is the most obvious of the bunch, based clearly on the Stratosphere, a massive tower with a rotating restaurant up top (and amusemant rides now, you've never ridden a Scrambler ride until you've done it staring 300 feet down at a parking lot).




What amazes me is that they're actually roughly in the places they ought to be, from the airport south of the Strip to where Freemont St. is.

There's also a very subtle in-joke with the NCR monorail. A monorail line DOES traverse the strip, but it doesn't go to the airport in real life, and that's one of the main reasons it's hemorrhaging money despite being heavily funded by the strip casinos.

On the Making Of dvd that came with the CE, one of the guy talk a little bit about this and how he cross the desert on a motorbike taking pictures of all cool places and landscapes he saw. Then he asked the 3d artists to modelize some of them for the game.

I think its pretty cool that these guys have places in the game that are IRL.. I would love to go to Goodsprings, NV one day though.

Just looking at Google Earth you can see where most of the locations in the game are based on. NCR's Mojave Outpost is Mountain Pass, CA. NCRCF is an actual Nevada Women's Prison. There's even an actual "Hidden Valley." The one that surprised me the most, having been to Vegas a few times, was that Jacobstown is based on an actual location where they do actually get snow in the winter - there's a place called Mt. Charleston in approximately the right area.

Novac is about the only place that seems to be made up as there is no actual town or hotel or anything in that area. However, the dinosaur thing is probably inspired by a couple of giant dinosaur statues located closer to LA on I-10 in Cabazon, CA.

Nipton, California is a very real place... and is approximately the right distance from Primm and Goodsprings in game as it is in real life.

The point, as I noted, is that unlike almost all the other communities in the game there is nothing that corresponds to the Novac area. No town, no hotel, nothing. In real life it's just an empty stretch of roadway between Searchlight and Nipton in the south up to Boulder City, with the solar energy site that corresponds to Helios One in the game being about the only notable landmark.

Mt. Charleston is where Jacobstown is locating in-game. Thats why its right next to the Mt. Charleston caves and the Snowglobe there is Snowglobe- Mt. Charleston.

Lol that's pretty awesome. I personally like real life references, it gives it a more realistic feeling.
