Talent is something you're born with. Training will make you better at skills, but training can never outperform true talent.
And imo, training is awefully boring.

...to become really talented, in everything form playing guitar to paint paintings. So, would you consider NOT playing Skyrim, and invest all that time into becoming incredibly skilled at something useful?

I'm afraid that statement is very wrong...you can be talented at something before ever trying it. Some people have a natural aptitude towards certain skills and will need much less practice than others to become good.
Also, if you'd rather spend your time playing games than becoming good at something you don't enjoy as much, why not do it? Will you be a happier person by being able to play the guitar or paint pretty paintings?

Many people think that everything they do has to be useful for it to have any meaning. Well...if it's something that makes you happy...why do anything else? Of course you should work, go to school, help others etc. But as for your own spare time...spend it on things that make you happy and make sense to you, instead of trying to please everyone around you.

I am talented in games. Plus Skyrim is more than a skill to have, it is an experience.

I'm getting really tired of all these Skyrim threads bleeding over into CD, there is a reason I am not in the Skyrim section.

our skills "in-game" are just that. we cant take our lv66 magic out into real life can we.... real life is not a game, but i come here to play games to escape that reality. both have their perks. and their downers too.

You guys know gamers develop skills that come very useful in real life situations

Most definitely I am always considering playing games vs things for self dev

Btw, I'm not judging anyone here. Just trying to shed some new light, that is all. =)

No sweat. Nice post

Guitar and painting is really not that useful for most people

Well.. I see alota jaho threads in here.. and if any of those guys knew how to play a guitar or paint.. those guys wouldn't need a jaho thread on how to "win" her, so to say

Who says painting is useful?

Who says guitar is useful?

Who says reading is useful?

Who says video games are useful?

i'm sure you can pick things up in less than 10000 hours, maybe like...i dunno 100 hours (spaced out) in classes is alot of time. Maybe you mean it becomes muscle memory after you do it 10000 times...becuase i've heard that before

I dunno about the muscle memory, but I have heard that it takes roughly 26 days to form a habit.

Has anyone here even played 5,000 hours worth of a single video game? I'm not even going to buy Skyrim, so yes I would consider not playing Skyrim to master a skill. Besides I have much better things to do then play 10,000 hours of one game.

That's bull. People learn out there own pace. Some are inherently better than others at some things, in my opinion.

But, no. The average American life span is about 78. Which is 683,280 hours of life. I have enough time to waste a couple hundred of those on video games.
