[REL] TESV Acceleration Layer, Thread 3

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 2:14 pm

Some other important things to try, (mainly because a different mod accidentally prevented these quests AND radiant quests from working) is, become Jarl and see if Lydia appears,
Test out the
Spoiler
Ending Nightingale/Thieves Guild
quests, the Final Companions Quest etc, because with the other mod, important things were not getting triggered
in any of those quests and they were rendered unfinishable

The easy way to check if radiant quests are broken is to get a radiant quest and see if your Journal says something like "Rescue at Ygnars Tomb"
(made that up...)
Yeah, i did a quest like that from the Companions to save the Riverwood spouse chick from a mine and i had no trouble with it. Went in, killed 'em all, walked up to her, quest updated, fast traveled to Riverwood, quest updated, went back to quest giver, quest completed.
This was done with the original AL file, not the new test file.

Aye, I've only gained 2fps though.

I guess I was expecting a lot more then 2 fps..

I've also got a relatively powerful CPU, hence why I wasn't seeing as much of a gain as others either.

But every FPS counts in my opinion!

This doesn't work with windows 8, it shows this error:

"TESV.exe - Bad image

TESVAL.dll is either not design to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."

Any way to fix this?
Expecting support for a beta o/s is a bit much, don't you think?

Exactly .. a fix for a beta test O/S is to dual boot and stick to the official one.

Okay, I have uploaded a test version for everyone to try out:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8VUSMRLT

People should give it a try in the places they have encountered issues and report back. If it doesn't fix your issue, it would be good for me to have a copy of the save game where your issues exists and an explanation of what you are experiencing.

It is looking like this fixes most of the issues. You are making wonderful progress Silverglade.

Short of running in compatibility mode, there probably isn't an easy fix for it, especially if the developers don't have a copy of Win 8.

For curiosity...

I made a benchmark test, this time in Makareth(sp?) at an another seemingly troublesome vantage point.

I turned graphical settings down to eliminate GPU overhead, the following results:

Vanilla: 32 fps
New TESV: 42 fps
Old TESV: 43 fps

At a different vantage point:

Vanilla: 36 fps
New TESV: 45 fps
Old TESV: 47 fps

This appears to coincide with the 25%-30% increase I was seeing at Whiterun. Doesn't appear to be much if any difference on my machine between the old and new TESV with performance, at least in those areas.

Just curious, which optimization was taken out to eliminate the bug?

Also, big thanks to everyone working on this.

You need to report this to the people creating Windows 8. The problem is on their side as that program is still in beta.

Trying to decide if I should use the mod or not, anyone have an opinion? If my computer isn't going to cpu bottleneck, I probably won't use it to avoid the few minor bugs that may or may not be in there. If I am facing a major cpu bottleneck, I'll go for it.

My computer:
Processor: i5-2430M dual-core 2.4ghz (turbo boost to 3.0 ghz)
GPU: geforce 540M 1gb
RAM: 6 gb ddr3
OS: Windows 7 x64

Thanks.

I'd recommend trying the mod and seeing if it helps you or not (use FRAPS to check your FPS).

This mod doesn't modify any files, so it shouldn't damage your game, especially if you revert to a save that you used prior to this mod.

Okay, I have uploaded another version that tries to add back the functionality of the original code. I've added the code back into the zip so people can take a look at it. It would be nice if someone like ianpatt, Alexander, Timeslip, etc. would look over the code change and make sure I did it correctly. It works for me; everyone can try it and let me know if they have any problems.

Both your fixed versions fix the Helgen bug for me. Don't notice any measurable performance difference between the original version, your first version and your second version.

Great work, thanks! Hope that fixes all the problems with this mod, would be awesome.

I just updated the description to link to post no. 34 for the new link and to asked them to follow the thread for any other updates.

I also put in a note to Windows 8 testers to report the issue to microsoft.

That did it. Ralof's script is back on track, AND the invisible forge bug also seems to be fixed, too (had an invisible forge at Halted Stream Camp with the original that is visible again with the hotfix).

Thanks a bunch! :)

Do you want to take over managing the mod at Nexus Silverglade? If not, would you like me to grant you access to that mod so you can upload updates to the same file that had the original one?

I didn't test any of the bug things, but I can say I do not notice a difference in performance, which is good.

I also confirm the newest DLL also fixes Ralof bug (same as your other version). I'll keep using it as a test.

Thanks!

Might I suggest an alternate site besides MegaVirus to store the test updates? Dropbox.com or 4shared perhaps?

I don't think that is necessary. I'd really like to see Arisu take it over, as that might mean he'd continue to update it with even more fixes. I can tell you that when the new EXE comes down, I won't be able to update it for that patch.

The first fix I made is pretty safe, I just prevented his injection from occurring. The second patch, although I'm pretty confident is okay, I'd really like someone else to look at my fix before publishing it.

It really depends on how long you want to wait before publishing a fix. If you want one sooner than later, maybe you should just downlaod the first one and repackage the zip file. All I did was comment out the lines, in table.inc, that read:

dd .test_bit_30, .test_bit_30.size, \
$0051E340, GOTO_NEXT

To comment out lines, just put a semicolon at the beginning.

You may get a decent increase at 3 ghz. Its worth trying, And like others have said dosen't change and game files.

Thanks everyone for their efforts thus far, with this mod feels like a real team effort. Speciall thanks to original author Arisu and Ianpatt for making it SKSE friendly and also thanks to Silverglade for his fix.

For me while I notice considerable improvements, as some with more powerful rigs aren't so much, why I feel this kind of mod is really important is in the long term when the CK is released, there will be mods with scripts and I think we'll all enjoy being able to try these feeling we can handle them.

@Silverglade

Arisu popped in to the PC subforum thread and this is what he said about your hotfix:

Hey guys,

as noted yesterday, I don't have much free time during Christmas. However, I can confirm that the original code for Patches.replace.test_bit_30 was flawed.
The "setnz" should've been "setz". The fixed version posted above also solves this problem by simply inverting the wrong value (the neg transforms 0 -> 0 or 1 -> -1, the add transforms from 0 -> 1 or -1 -> 0).

Maybe it will help you?

Considering my Core i7 930 @ 2.8 GHz is the Bottleneck in various places when it comes to Skyrim and the mobile processors are much less powerful than the desktop versions, yes, it'd definately be worth trying the patch.
