THALMOR!

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 4:00 pm

I think the next bit of meaty DLC should involve the Thalmor. Either as a faction you can join, or as an army you fight against, depending on your choices. I wanted an option to fight them, aside from just willy nilly fighting randoms on the road, and actually taking out their leader. And perhaps doing such would even lead you to a kingly title. After all, they say dragon borns are meant to be King.

No matter how you play the civil war, you help the Thalmor.

If you help the Empire....well it gives them free reign through Skyrim as if nothing happened.

If you help the Stormcloaks, it makes the Empire lose one of it's strongest allies softening them up for the next invasion.

Would be nice if we could actually undo some of the Thalmor plans a bit....but they are just so prepared for everything.

Which is why it would make such a perfect piece of DLC.

It would be nice to see a choice of how the story for this goes as a DLC based on your advances in the Civil War:
Stormcloak - you destroy the Empire's direct influence on Skyrim, but the Thalmor request use of you and forgiveness for your foolishness.
Imperial - you have succeeded in Skyrim, now it is time to further the wishes of the Thalmor's plans

You can either choose to join them or fight against them.

I cannot think of much other than that as an opening, but although you can help them, you should not be allowed to join them as a faction as they are all conceited Altmer.

Actually, according to the Thalmor themselves, perpetuating the civil war into a stalemate is their optimal plan.

If the Imperials win, they can go back to recuperating their strength from the first Great War, meaning that they'll pose a greater threat when the Thalmor attempt to finish the job. The Thalmor got hammered from the Great War too.

If the Stormcloaks win, there is a new nation openly hostile to them now who is openly worshipping Talos, and now their own recuperation is interrupted by having to (attempt to) put down this new nation.

The Talos worship ban wasn't just because the thought of a man undergoing apotheosis is offensive to them... Talos is what is holding the Mundus together. He is the hub in the wheel. Take him out, and the Thalmor's plan for unmaking the Mundus and erasing all of men from reality and returning to pre-creation "divinity" succeeds. And how do you kill a god? You quash belief in him.

You make my Argonian Paladin feel a lot better about joining the Stormcloaks.

If Bethesda did decide to release DLC, the only thing I think they could do with the Thalmor is two things:

1. You have to fight off their next invasion after you complete the Civil War questline.
2. Or, you can join them. (Probably more likely if your character's an elf and Thalmor supporter).

On a personal note, I am a dedicated Stormcloak and would love to kick those stuck up high elves into Oblivion!

I wish beth would let me at em. I have slaughtered so many of their little groups roaming about im confident I could own a crap ton of them, especially if I got some good shock resist for the justicars. I want to kill them al, they are such [censored]s. They are the nazis of tamriel, they must die.

Indeedy.

TesVI: Summerset Isle. That would be awesome. It could and should include Valenwood as well, or at least a portion of it. Just imagine the required creativity in artwork to make Summerset Isle anything close to the lore. After two TES sequels in a standard LotR/Medievel setting it would be a nice change to alternate it with a more distinctive art direction once more. It could even, dare I say, stomp the creativeness Beth showed they had in them with TES3: Morrowind.

In the mean while I'll be happy to kick the Thalmor out of Skyrim. Hell, even to undo their influence on Cyrodiil as well. To prepare the lore for the ultimate defeat of the Thalmor, in their homeland.

This is a Bethesda game.
The bad guys seem to be winning for 95% of the game but in the last five they are utterly destroyed in a single battle by a single plot device. Bad guys die, good guys drink mead have lots of good six.

It would be nice to have ancient aylieds that used an elderscroll to jump themselves forward in time hoping to escape the rise of the empire only to find it stronger than ever in the future so they set about forming the thalmor and corrupting as many beast races they can enslave as they can get their hands on.ultimately lets have something like halo where you have a thalmor commander leading a group of bosmer archers, animalised orcs, human mercs or traitors, argonian scouts, all corrupted and mind controlled by thalmor conditioning.

since no one knows the true power behind the thalmor are a bunch of old aylieds trying to resurrect their power and bring more of them from the past would be a great dlc and consistent with game lore..i think?

Please god, don't bring an entire province into a DLC... That would just remove the possibility of that province becoming an entire game.

I really wished that if you were a Bosmer or Altmer, you could have the opportunity to join the Thalmor. I wish they made race-specific quests for each of the races. How gnarly would that be. Very gnarly.

We're just elves. Why would the men care? Did you see a single mer in Sovngarde?

I would like to see a dlc like that. Also
another half of the dlc where the Falmar rise up and start attacking ppl. And you have to decide if you kill all them or give them back there lands. I would still want the thalmar one to extend a little bit into morrowind though.

If you sided with the Empire, you end up being the Thalmor's [censored] in the DLC.
If you sided with the Stormcloaks, you fight against the Thalmor in the DLC.

I usually use Mace of Molag Bal+Spell Breaker or Volendrung for most of my fighting, but i carry Wuuthrad in my pack just for those occasions when i come across a Thalmor Patrol on the road. If only i could upgrade Wuuthrad by tempering it in the blood of the Thalmor...

I can't see the next Great War being the focus of a DLC, but the Thalmor are clearly a loose end in Skyrim and have been set up as the perfect antagonists. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the DLC's revolved around a Thalmor plot, which you have to foil. It wouldn't be the end of the Thalmor, but it would be a definite setback.

You want to wait another 5 years to have another massive story arch? Seriously? When they promise DLC, I'd already hope it would be the equivalent of another 50/100 hours of playtime.

In any case, each Elder Scrolls is largely self-contained aside from the mythopoeia, so the Thalmor will in all likelihood be dealt with in DLCs/expansions.
