That spell looks dangerous! Keep your distance.

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:40 am

No matter what hold I'm in, no matter what I'm wearing, no matter what I have equipped, no matter which spell I have in my hand, no matter if I have my weapon out or not, everyone I talk to always says "That spell looks dangerous! Keep your distance!" Or at least, that's the most common one. A very slight minority of characters will just comment on how dangerous or how powerful my spell is. WHY. It's getting annoying. Please tell me this is just a glitch and it will be patched soon or something.

they tell me not to set the place on fire with my destruction magic
among other things
but that one seems to be the most prevalent

They always tell me to keep that fire away from them when I have flames in both hands. Kinda cool not annoying to me

It's not like one of those random things they say. I used to hear "Don't go picking any locks on my watch." or "I have a lot of respect for restoration." or "Don't go catching anything on fire.", but those were just every now and then. Literally, EVERY person I walk near or talk to says "That spell looks dangerous, keep your distance." I'm not exaggerating. It's seriously every NPC in the game that I have come across thus far.

What about killing a dragon with the guards, and as soon as it falls down dead, one guard will say "A guard might get nervous when you approach him with your weapon out".

The NPCs have only said that to me while I have a summoned atronach or dremora lord out. Just walking around without them I have never heard them comment on my magic.

The lazy twits usually ask me to conjure them up a warm bed.

Or they ask me to stop shouting.

Any elk? Elk fear me in general, they're always running away when I just want to pet them with my kitty paws.

It's not even like that. I could be mixing a potion at an alchemist shop, and the alchemist will walk down stairs and say "That spell looks dangerous, keep your distance."
I could be at the forge in Whiterun and the lady will walk out of her shop near me and say "That spell looks dangerous, keep your distance."
I could be walking down the street to my house, a beggar will walk by and say "That spell looks dangerous, keep your distance."
I could be visiting the Jarl to see if he has any jobs for me, one of his court members will say "That spell looks dangerous, keep your distance."

Seriously. Every NPC says it, and if they don't say that exact line, they say something about my spell which I don't even have equipped. It's driving me mad hearing that same line over and over and over. I feel like Dexter in the episode of Dexter's Laboratory when the french record skipped and all he heard was "Omellette du fromage" over and over.

Is destruction your highest skill? I think it's based on your skills somehow.

My Daedric Sword is enchanted with an enchant that deals 10 burning damage + if killed within 5 seconds fills a soul shard and I get told not to burn anything down.

Actually, conjuration and smithing are my highest, they're both at 100. My destruction is only at ~70

Oh well yeah thats nothing like my "problem" i understand why that would annoy you, i only get the guards asking me once in a while if i can enchant their weapon, or some random stuff about using a twohander.

Sounds like a bug.

I really hope it is and I hope they patch it soon because it's making me not want to play Skyrim, haha.

They had these kind of responses in Oblivion. NPC's would comment on your character if you were proficient or high enough with a certain skill. "You look like you know a thing or two about armor" etc..

It's because you have the spell active in your hands, ready to cast. Similar reactions happen if you walk around town with your weapons unsheathed.

No, it's not because of that. if you'd read my other posts, I could be doing anything from buying, forging, mixing potions, walking, and it doesn't matter if I have my spells in my hand. I could be walking around in full daedric armor with a daedric shield and daedric sword sheathed and they'll still comment on my spell.

oh my god the repeating dialogue in general... i feel your pain OP. given how much it annoys me that everyone keeps giving me their life story (the SAME story) every time i walk within 10 feet of them, i can only imagine the horror of every NPC telling you the same thing no matter what you were doing.

i thought we fixed this? NPC's have much more natural conversations with other NPCs compared to oblivion, so why on earth dont they default to "hi" after they've given you their life story like they did in oblivion?

no nazeem, in fact i do get to the cloud district often, seeing as weve had this conversation a dozen times already!

That pissed me off so much! Haha! My Archmage got the comment "you're a sneaky looking sort" more often than any other

Ugh. Don't remind me. If some [censored] greets me with "Well met" in this game I'm going to split his skull.
