[Important] The CK and Beta 1.5

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 1:54 pm

The CK warnings are only displaying what gets caught by the CK. Since the data format for some fields has changed, that means the game's beta patch is expecting those changes to be present. It's not enough to simply avoid editing the types of things those records directly affect. The change in chunk sizes means the storage arrangement for them is now different and could leak over into other nearby records in the file. We don't have any idea which once those may be. Which is why you're taking a big risk by continuing development of anything major while under the beta patch.

Here's hoping that Bethesda remembers to update the CK when any update goes live to reflect changes, and remembers to make it so that Mods are backwards-compatable (In other words, makes the game so it can recognize an "old mod" format, and convert data types as needed)

I think it will always be backwards compatable, it just isn't forwards compatable.

I opted out of the beta, and saved my mod. I don't want to risk it anymore, you guys are scaring me too much. :P I appear to be succesfully working back in Skyrim 1.4. I think it only affects you if you have Update.esm as a master. Regardless, I'm in the safe zone now.

Anyone encountering the same problem with the release version?

Is it possible this was fixed between the beta and release?

No, the CK is still broken.

On the plus side, it seems to load 1.5 faster than it did 1.4...

Wait.... so.... still stay away from the CK? I just got forced the 1.5 release just now ...

Edit: Could we get this stickied? As many people as possible need to know about this issue... especially now that 1.5.24.0 was PUSHED out the door without a CK update.

I noticed the version number is exactly the same as the Beta (1.5.24.0.5)

So...the CK is now basically useless until they update it?

It is useless if you update you game to 1.5. That being said, us modders would have to stay in 1.4.27.

Basically if you didn't think to take steam offline prior to the update, you're [censored].

Err on the other hand......... I think this would mean no mod made under 1.4 is compatible with 1.5..?

I can confirm that Steam is downloading an update for the Creation Kit (currently at 75%).

Since the record types are now the same for both the CK and Skyrim, this should completely fix the problem, right?

Yes, now that the CK and game version are matched up again, it's safe to continue forward.

The caveat being of course that all work done in CK 1.5 is incompatible with game version 1.4 and under.

Should be the case. If you have plugins made with previous CK versions, you can most likely update/retrofit them by merely opening and saving them with v1.5.24.0 (chunk size error warnings and such should not happen upon consecutive loads). ONAM, although officially in now, is not generated by CK...
