[Important] The CK and Beta 1.5

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:55 pm

A heads up to those of you who might be using the beta 1.5 update. DO NOT use the CK with that until Bethesda has had a chance to update it. There was a change in the format of one of the record types which the current CK is not aware of. Attempting to work on mods before this happens can result in your files becoming corrupted.

If you have already updated to 1.5 and saved work in the CK after that, you should revert to a backup copy from before the patch and then opt out of the beta if you need to continue working on something. It's not safe to work on anything serious until this gets fixed.

Thanks for the heads up! Does this have to do only with the navamesh thing you talked about in the other thread, or is there more?

For the curious, what was the change in format?

Also, the irony of getting this information from Arthmoor, who on occasion discourages the use of third party editing tools for precisely this reason, is not lost on me

Phew! I'm glad I went to offline mode and opted out of the beta updates a couple of days ago. I had a feeling something was coming soon!

This:
MASTERFILE: GameSetting 'fTemperingSkillUseItemValConst' in file 'Update.esm' is not recognized by the current EXE.
MASTERFILE: GameSetting 'fTemperingSkillUseItemValExp' in file 'Update.esm' is not recognized by the current EXE.
MASTERFILE: GameSetting 'fTemperingSkillUseItemValMult' in file 'Update.esm' is not recognized by the current EXE.
MASTERFILE: GameSetting 'fConstructibleSkillUseConst' in file 'Update.esm' is not recognized by the current EXE.
MASTERFILE: GameSetting 'fConstructibleSkilluseExp' in file 'Update.esm' is not recognized by the current EXE.
MASTERFILE: GameSetting 'fConstructibleSkillUseMult' in file 'Update.esm' is not recognized by the current EXE.
MASTERFILE: GameSetting 'sInvalidTagString' in file 'Update.esm' is not recognized by the current EXE.
FORMS: Chunk size 44 too big in chunk DATA_ID in form CAMS_ID (0010C75B).
Max size is 40, data truncated to "".

Followed by a whole bunch more of the chunk size errors. Which are about the worst possible thing that could happen and are what makes the CK unsafe to use with 1.5 until it's updated.

Yeah, the irony of not using 3rd party tools isn't lost on me either, but this error has already been confirmed to crash SkyEdit and I'm pretty sure TESVSnip wouldn't care for it much.

And this does need to be taken seriously. Mods saved with an out of sync CK are BAD in ways 3rd party utilities could only dream of.

My CK is at V1.4.23, so the beta testing downloads must not automatically update for me.
If its something I did, I have no idea what. I can't figure out Steam and still have not figured out how to look at mods people upload to the steam workplace. So I use the Nexus.

Uhhh, oh crap. I just saw this and I've done about 15 hours of work in the CK with the 1.5 beta... Am I screwed or will this fix itself if I revert from the beta, or when the CK is updated? Going to a backup version isn't really an option...

I say, make a backup of what you have now, re-save it in 1.4.27 and see if it's survived, if not, try again when 1.5 is out of beta...

Judging by the explanation, it looks like your 15 hours are lost. Obviously you can save the scripts and other resources, but the pluggin file...

Yeah I would assume if it doenst work now, that it would at least work with the new version when it's out of beta, and the CK is updated. That should fix it. Which is fine. My project is months away from release, so at worse my testers cant play it.

Though, would I already know if it was corrupted? I've play tested it several times, and I continue being able to work without any issues at all. Maybe it's because I don't touch any of the game settings, so it isnt affected?

EDIT: Well I can keep working and loading it ingame no issues... Also, I opted out of beta and saved again and it all seems to work. (I cant actually load into the game, but thats because I didn't make my mod an esm)
I'm going to opt back in and keep working and I guess just risk it. :/

It's quite interesting that they seem to have added extra AVs to the Update.esm. That's the exact error you get if you try to force new AVs into your ESP file (using TESVSnip) and load them up (due to AVs being hardcoded into the executable).

"Tempering" and "Constructible", interesting. Planned features for the future perhaps, just they forgot to remove them from the ESM/update our EXE?

Constuctable? You guys don't think that has anything to do with the 'Build your own house' thing from the Game Jam, do you? :hubbahubba:

No you didn't! Who says the BGS version will be good? Or how customizable? People may still prefer your mod over building their own (possibly bad) house. Or maybe you can work your mod in. So they can build your house anywhere they want.

You never waste your time when you mod.

Seems very likely. Not quite sure what tempering would be used for however.

But they are two, proper skill actor values that have been added. New AVs aren't just added for the fun of it (as they can't, only at engine level). It's definately hinting at something.

What's also interesting is converting the Update.esm to an ESP will cause a localisation error and crash the CK, just like what happened when I was fooling around with AVs. So like said, they've been messing with actor values in the development files and either forgot to include the modified EXE, or more than likely just forgot to remove them from the Update ESM. Seems exciting.

makes the patch Skyrim stable?

I'm sorry but i thought something like this:
who needs the CK when the game still not even stable for everyone.
and that's for sure, as the Amen in the church!

I've changed my processor a few weeks ago and now nothing works anymore!

I will give at least not rest until I can play Skyrim with a
M4A78-EM Motherboard,
a AMD Phenom II X4 940,
a HD 5770 and Realtek Sound chip

If you're having technical problems that belongs in the PC Support forum, not in a thread about CK compatability...
