The Archmage robes and NPC comments : V - Skyrim

Wow, that's awesome! I always thought about what it would be like to trigger something like that!
That means they're not so far from using disguise in certain quests.

When I played gourmet in the Dark Brotherhood quest I decided to wear a chef's tunic and hat to make it more fun. When I killed "the target" I ran away, used stealth and changed my outfit. No one attacked me anymore until I got outside. At that point they suddenly recognized me again, oddly enough.

Wouldn't it be great if people didn't recognize you wearing another armour set so you could escape or infiltrate?

Tell me about it... Maybe we were given a fake archmage robes and the one that we use console on is the real thing?

Most probably it's a glitch. Maybe the hoodless robes were created first and the game dialogue scripts were built around them. Someone thought a hooded version was cooler, made the change but forgot to update the script.
