the best game you have ever played

World of Warcraft, 2005-2008. After that it became a shadow of its former self and I fear that TES games will follow suit.

1 Deus Ex (the original)
Deus Ex Human Revolution is good but I think they could have done more.
2 Oblivion, I like games that let you play them how you want. The openess of the world is simply amazing.

Can't vote for Skyrim just yet. Installed it today and I need to tweak it somewhat so I'm able to play like I'm used to.

Fallout 2, super mario bros, Civilization 4 with mods, heroes of might and magic 3, Abe oddysee, devil may cry 3, skyrim, max payne, black and white 1 and 2, blair witch project vol.1, my own game (ganja man in the space, it's not that good but it's mine so I'm very proud of it). I can't chose my number 1 game because it's too hard, but these are my favorite games. Probably I haven't mentioned all of them

My best game of all time is Little Big Adventure (also known as Twinsen's Odyssey). Anyone remembers?

Dark Souls. Yeah it came out just a few months ago but damn me if it isn't what I would consider my ideal game: amazing art and music, level design and superbly polished gameplay that at no point holds the hand of the player and yet also never slaps him in the face with cheap tricks. Also now that patch 1.05 pretty much fixed everything people were compaining about its gotten even better. Before Dark Souls my favorite game was Half Life 2 (obligatory "where is my HL3 Valve!" line).

Planescape Torment by far. I cant even understand when people say Baldur's gate was the best from the series, cause clearly they wouldnt say that. if they played this.

Thief: Dark Project.

In no particular order:

Independence War 2: edge of chaos (for a great free form story and the most realistic space physics to date)

Daggerfall (cause it's the only TES game that I've "finished" the main quest line)

Age of Mythology (the most micro managable and diverse fantasy RTS of its kind)

Warhammer Online (great PVP concept despite being implemented then and managed into the ground by the worlds biggest no-talent slackers)

Skyrim (for so many obvious reasons)

Asolutely nothing by Bioware

All of these are at the time they came out - obviously many don't hold up to the test of time.

Conan the Cimmerian (DOS, 1991) - I remember playing other RPG games but this is the one that made me crazy for the genre.
Return to Zork (1993)
Myst (1993)
Diablo (1996) - first game I remember playing online against strangers. Battle-net? I remember playing Doom II against friends on dial up but nothing like battlenet.
Baldur's Gate 2 (2000)
Counterstrike (2000) This addictive game caused me to somehow miss out on Morrowind and planescape torment
GTA: San Andreas (2004)
Fallout 3 (2008)
Skyrim (2011)

Overall I've got to say Skyrim is the best console/computer RPG I've played. Oblivion I liked, but the glitches and those boring dungeons made me want to cry.

1 Masters of Orion 2
2 Deus Ex (original), and Human Revolution
3 Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind
4 FO3 and FO New Vegas
5 Freelancer

Except for MoO2 being number one, all of the others sort of get lumped together.
As you can see, all of them have some level of "sandbox" appeal.

Treasure Island Dizzy will always hold a place in my heart.

Was it on the spectrum by any chance? i had it on that, great game.

There are so many games over the years that mean a lot to me that choosing just one is so hard, but i do my best and go for Shenmue on the *puts on cartman voice* Sega Dreamcast!

Dragon Age: Origins. The game was a very near perfect balance of action game and RPG. While it had it's low points, it's high points completely countered them. Too bad EA-Laidlaw got hold of the franchise and turned it into Gears of Dragon Duty.

Don't have one really , my likes in gaming changes over time.
I remember when I was 8-13 I was really into gundam games and Starwars battlefront.
If I were going to nominate a game for the best mindless violence it would have to be the recent Call of Duty games, it takes little to no brain power to play. It is quick mindless fun in my opinion and if I enjoy some mindless fun sue me.
I don't really have a favorite RPG. Oblivion , Morrowind and Skyrim have problems which annoy me greatly.
Around the ages of 6-8 I really liked the backyard sports games too.

Way to many for me to pick just one. But the ones I've put the most time into are:

Morrowind
BG2: SoA/ToB
Perfect Dark
Planescape Torment

If you look at it logically, judging the quality of a game by the amount of fun had relative to the amount of time spent playing, http://www.kongregate.com/games/Mazapan/you-have-to-burn-the-rope is the best game I've ever played, without a doubt.

Seriously though, asking me to pick a favorite game is like asking me to pick my favorite family member. One springs to mind before all the others, but then I remember its faults and I switch to another one, then another one, and so on.

The Best game I've ever played, is easily Skyrim. I loved Oblivion because I could play it for hours on end but Skyrim takes that to a whole new level.

My Top 5
1. Skyrim
2. Oblivion
3. Fallout3/Fallout New Vegas (Tie, couldn't pick one over the other).
5. Dragon Age Origins (Kingdoms Of Amalur Reckoning may move onto this list, really loving what I've heard about that game so far).

Do all games count? Even ones outside electronic media?
If so...

AToW + Battletech
And runner-up is "My own PnP ruleset which is still pending an official name"

If not...
I really can't say one game is better compared to other. Old school games really hold sweet spot in my memories, but I had to admit that they have some
serious design flaws, and newer games are lacking that "something" what made old games so good.
