Oh, so the AI can chop your head off too!

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:40 pm

I find it annoying that chiefs, and some of the normal bandits are so overpowered compared with their companions. Not just a case of being slightly more difficult, but many more levels in difficulty.

Encountered in a small room a bandit chief who was skilled in magic. Died loads of times due to his rapid fire machine gun area of effect fireballs and buffed health with basic fur gear and iron weapons. Real fair compared to my fully enchanted dwemer armour, bows and weapons.

That annoys the hell out of me. Especially after i just made a full suit of dwarven and brought it up to superior, only to have some bandit chief in steel and iron weapon kick my ass. If lydia wasnt with me i would be dead. I have to say that from at least low to mid levels i like the scaling better in Oblivion. Sometimes no matter what difficulty, i cant even mount a defense before im killed. Instead of overpowered bandit chiefs i wish they would be two of them and a little weaker

Has anyone figured out what triggers finishing moves yet?
The AI has done it to me when I've had tonnes of health left and not even been in the middle of dong a move or anything. I simply didn't have my shield up and got finished a few times. Usually by a warhammer too.

Yeah, I had the coolest death early on in the game when a Dragon said OMNOMNOM in my general direction. My disappointment in death was kinda rendered null by how cool it was that I died. You know, like when you get smashed by a Giant for the first time.

Getting finished by the AI is pretty cool right up until you realize how cheap it is. They really should've coded the finishing animations to start after the killing blow lands, not the millisecond the swing animation for what MIGHT be a killing blow starts.

I used to do that. Afterawhile I ran into some bandits and I could hear them say "....it was the weirdest thing, I kept chopping his head off but he kept getting up head and all...and I just kept chopping it off..." "..we should've learned magic, that's where the real power's at..."

And have leveled up smithing, enchanting or alchemy since the last save :P I need to take a least a 24 hour break after that happens to me.

I only get blindsided by the finishing when I more than half my health left so It makes me heal a lot before health gets too low.

Hmmm... I still haven't seen my character decapitated yet, only stabbed.

the trick is to (after he chopped your head of) open the console (^) and click on your character and type in "resurrect".
now you can play skyrim like a boss

That will happen like- never.

Now usually it takes until i`m down to 10-20% like the other guy said, but if someone hits you hard enough that it more or less negates your FULL health, then you`ll get the Finisher. i`ve had times when i`ve done a Finisher on someone on the `st hit which proves you can be on full health for it to happen.

I love the comments they make once you're dead, like "who left this trash lying around" or things of that nature. Illarious.

I like that the AI can employ finishers on the character, but it does get annoying when you a dragon does one when I've still got half my health.

I really like that the game can still kill me, even in the mid 40's. It is quite refreshing.

Of course it svcks when I realize that I have not saved for more than two hours.

I feel your pain. Especially when those 2 hours were spent crawling through a huge dwemer dungeon and you forget to check the floor just once which is of course the exact spot that they installed the trigger plate for a spike gate trap. Which kills squishy thieves dead on master level. Makes you wanna cry. Lol.

How does one play for 2 hours without hitting a loading screen (autosave)?

Turn off autosave so that you don't have to wait so long for loading screens or mess up save files? Closest thing I got to autosave is F5 (quicksave).

Edit: And before you ask, I was busy hunting stuff. I forgot to press quicksave. It happens. Now I'm paranoid about saving. Lol.

Some dungeons are big, some people crawl through them very slowly and some people who play on PS3 turn off auto-save because it apparently helps with the crippling lag issues.

i had full health (150) on master and a bandit chief lopped my head off on the first hit - every time. after 5 reloads, i ruled out glitch or extraordinary circumstance. no potions to drink or spells to cast, once the head is gone, it's done.

the animation is absolute. there are scripted character deaths in the game. using the console, i set one of the doomed to essential. it didn't work - once the head rolls off, character is dead, even if they are essential.

Not just PS3 mate. If you want to avoid long loading screens every time you enter a shop you definitely want to turn it off on any platform.

Did not know that. Will definitely turn it off then. I save often enough as it is. Thanks for the input.

Yup. Turning off "Save on Travel" will almost insta load shops and houses and so on when you enter. "Save on Wait" doesn't effect that so you can leave that on if you want to still save when you press the wait key.

Not true- a finishing move can be started whenever.
Ordinary finishing moves, yes. The decapitation move that requires a perk appears to be different. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm yet to see it (used on me) with a character that doesn't have that perk.
