Oh, so the AI can chop your head off too!

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 8:16 pm

Well, that was shocking.

Level 20 and I`d come to the conclusion that the AI couldn`t do a finisher on you. But after my head rolled on the floor, I discovered it can.

Now being a melee fighter feels a lot more deadly...

Cool though, in a grim way.

And if an NPC initiates a finishing move it doesn't matter if you pause the game to heal, you're dead.

Yea, I discovered that too. Kinda unfair really, especially when you still have health left.

Well, if you can drop your shield, pull a potion from your backpack and chuck it all before your opponent runs his sword through you, more power to you! =)

Welcome to the world of the demi-god bandit chief. Their finishers have been the cause of nearly all of my 'maybe I'll come back in a few levels' moments.

That`s exactly what I`ve had to do. Just made a written note about this most dangerous bandit camp. I not only got decapitated but run through (a move I liked doing to others), battered by a war hammer and generally electrocuted... Several times before I gave up.

Also lost a Follower to them as well.

I don`t mind though since that`s a part of games like these. Good to see some npcs can`t always be easily beaten.

Don`t know how people manage dead is dead. Impossible.

Yes. But only if the player character has taken the perk that allows it.

Not true- a finishing move can be started whenever I'm sure of it- normally happens when the next hit of the enemy would be a killing blow anyway hence the finishing move animation.

actually not... potions do not help getting your head back on your body or against an angry sword going through your body searching for the light on the other side...

It will, unless you are on Easy.

That`s not it. The point is you are dead the moment the Finisher activates, not if you`ve actually been killed yet or not.

It reminds me a bit of Dragon Age when someone fires an arrow at you the game has already decided whether or not the arrow will hit. If the game decides the arrow will hit, there`s nothing you can do to avoid it. Dodge and the arrow will hit, dive and the arrow will hit- Even jump behind a brick wall before the arrow reaches you and it will still hit.

Wait until you have two or three tough guys with powerful weapons all chopping at you. No matter how quick you quaff those healers, someone batters you down to `Finishing kill move time.`

Im not ashamed to admit i play on Apprentice. I hate losing time in large games like this, even if the reload is 10 minutes back. It also kills immersion for me when i get decapitated or something. I also dislIke using potions.... Something i never used in ES before unless in between fights. On apprentice, playing this style, i still had close ones with bandit chiefs and sabre tooth cats once in awhile. I was also killed by three thalmor recently that got the jump on me out of nowhere and hammered me with spells and arrows before i could compose myself. I think this is just meant to be a difficult game in general if you dont abuse stuff like alchemy and smithing

The cool thing about Skyrim is when I die in combat it rarely, if ever, feels cheap. The kill animations only trigger if that hit was going to kill me anyway. I will admit OP if I ran into that bandit camp, Halted Stream comes to mind, at low level and just charged in I would die a quick death.

The trick is don't charge in and don't let them chop you. At lower levels Lydia is perfect for this. She just has a way of pissing people off, so no matter what I do, enemies keep trying to chop her down. When I first bought Skyrim I did charge into Haltred Stream to see what would happen (after I got ran through and died) I ran to the back of the cave frantically trying to heal. Then I noticed no one was following me. I turned around and saw that the mammoth trap had killed all three of them. Good times.

the trick is to (after he chopped your head of) open the console (^) and click on your character and type in "resurrect".
now you can play skyrim like a boss

My 100hp level 9 Mage is having a rough time of it on master, I just got killed by a spider out in the wilds twice in a row, one bite and I was dead. Had to get flame atronach and companion to kill it for me. I wasn't expecting this character to be so hard, all my other characters in master have tons of health and good armor so it's easy for them.

I used to do that. Afterawhile I ran into some bandits and I could hear them say "....it was the weirdest thing, I kept chopping his head off but he kept getting up head and all...and I just kept chopping it off..." "..we should've learned magic, that's where the real power's at..."

I really like that the game can still kill me, even in the mid 40's. It is quite refreshing.

Of course it svcks when I realize that I have not saved for more than two hours.

I was shocked. It was hilarious. I might have missed the first few times enemies performed a KO, but I especially noticed it once my bumbling thief got surrounded by the town guards.

I find it annoying that chiefs, and some of the normal bandits are so overpowered compared with their companions. Not just a case of being slightly more difficult, but many more levels in difficulty.

Encountered in a small room a bandit chief who was skilled in magic. Died loads of times due to his rapid fire machine gun area of effect fireballs and buffed health with basic fur gear and iron weapons. Real fair compared to my fully enchanted dwemer armour, bows and weapons.

Yeah, it seems that you get finished off when you're somewhere in between 10%-20% HP.

I'd prefer if they had to stagger you somehow first... Or even better yet, follow the system that brawling set up. Once my HP is nearly gone and I'm on the ground trying to get back up, then you can behead me. No moe sneaky sneakies. (IE: I got beheaded from behind in the middle of combat while I still had [|||| ] of my HP.)
